Wilmington, NC -(Ammoland.com)- The Battleship NORTH CAROLINA is asking for help in making the holidays brighter for veterans.

In the past 9 years, the community has come together to send over 21,000 cards to veterans staying in over twenty-eight VA hospitals in 9 states. To continue the tradition, the Ship is reaching out in efforts to build on the foundation and reach more veterans than in years past.

To participate, an individual, school, or organization can create holiday cards wishing our veterans a Happy Holiday and a Thank You for serving our country. Decorate the front of the card and on the inside or back side, please include your first name only and what school, church, or group you are affiliated with. Participants are encouraged to use traditional holiday images (trees, wreaths, angels, etc.) to decorate their cards. Cards can also be created during the Verry Merry Showboat December 6th event at the Battleship.

Cards can also be created at the Battleship on Saturday, December 6, during A Verry Merry Showboat family holiday event. The Battleship has partnered with the Cape Fear Chapter of the American Red Cross. Their volunteers will be staffing the card making activity in the Ship’s Coca-Cola Canteen from 10am to noon and from 1pm to 3pm.

Completed cards should be brought or mailed to the Battleship NORTH CAROLINA by December 15, 2014. Cards will not be accepted after this date, as to allow for shipping time to the hospitals. Veterans Affairs Hospitals located in North Carolina and several neighboring states will receive based on the quantity created.

The Battleship NORTH CAROLINA would also like to remind everyone to continue to thank veterans throughout the year. Because of the amazing response to the holiday cards, the Battleship created a new activity for visitors in the exhibit hall to help extend the gratitude year round. Since June, more than 5,000 “thank a veteran” cards have been sent to the four Veteran Affairs facilities in the state of North Carolina. Be sure to write your note of thanks during your next visit to the Battleship.
