Accokeek, MD. – Beretta USA Corp. announced today that the Alabama Department of Public Safety has chosen Beretta’s new Model 1301 Tactical as the Agency’s primary semiautomatic shotgun.

DPS has placed an order for 657 units of the Beretta 1301 Tactical Shotgun.

‘DPS has honored us with its trust,” said Stefano Itri, Director of Law Enforcement and International Sales at Beretta USA.

“The Model 1301 is one of the latest embodiments of our dedication to our tactical customers. We designed it only after carefully listening to the recommendations of military and law enforcement professionals who are, in the end, the men and women who rely on our products when they put their lives on the line in service to all of us.  We are proud to know that the Beretta Model 1301 Tactical shotgun will be relied upon by DPS officers.”

Launched at the annual Las Vegas SHOT Show in January, 2014, the 1301 Tactical is a semiautomatic shotgun specifically designed to meet the needs of tactical shooters such as lawenforcement professionals. It has a compact size that makes it easy to use in tight spaces, is accurate and has a fast action for follow-up shots.  Based on the rugged Model 1301 design, the shotgun is also easy to operate and customize and is undemanding regarding maintenance.

The 1301 Tactical has a 18.5” barrel and features a sturdy, protected ghost-ring sighting system as well as a gas-operated action capable of firing 4 shots in less than a second, making it the fastest semiautomatic on the market by a 36% margin.

Its controls are oversized for intuitive use, its action can cycle up to 10,000 rounds without a cleaning, while a top-mounted MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail as well as user-adjustability for length of pull, drop and cast make the Model 1301 easily adaptable to a variety of needs.

Looks like a very effective shotgun, but I found that racking a pump saved shooting a few people. Threats do indeed work.

This shotgun has a fatal flaw , namely the extended oversize multifunction bolt release. If the bolt release is activated at any time that shells are in the magazine tube, you will cause a double feed malfunction requiring a tool to clear. I can not understand how a police agency could adopt this firearm . This is normal function as per beretta .
