HuffPo says: Self-Defense A ‘Laughable’ Way to Defend Gun Rights

Washington DC – -(Ammoland.com)- On Monday, the Huffington Post ran a column arguing that the Constitution is the weakest of all grounds for defending gun rights, and an appeal to self-defense to justify gun ownership is simply “laughable.”

According to the Huffington Post, the Constitutional argument for gun rights is flawed because the 2nd Amendment only protects the rights of persons serving in the militia and, contrary to the Supreme Court’s decision in McDonald v. Chicago, it does not bar states or local governments from regulating firearm ownership.

HuffPo substantiates this claim by appealing to former Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens’ Six Amendments: How and Why We Should Change the Constitution.

Stevens wrote:

For over 200 years following the adoption of [the 2nd Amendment] federal judges uniformly understood that the right protected by the text was limited in two ways: first, it applied only to keeping and bearing arms for military purposes, and second, while it limited the power of the federal government, it did not impose any limit whatsoever on the power of the states or local governments to regulate the ownership or use of firearms.

Therefore, the “Constitutional argument is the weakest.”

And appeals to self-defense, whether defense of one’s person or of one’s countrymen, are downright “laughable.” Regarding individuals, the HuffPo quotes the Brady Campaign To Prevent Gun Violence in arguing that a gun in the house “is 22 times more likely to be used for suicide or killing someone… than for self-defense.” And regarding the defense of one’s countrymen, the HuffPo mocks the argument that our Founding Father’s wanted citizens armed in order to keep the government in check.

Of course the HuffPo didn’t quote James Madison, because Madison used Federalist 46 to express his confidence that one reason Americans owned guns was to keep government in check.  Moreover, it was Madison who not only penned the Second Amendment, but also wrote about “the advantage of being armed, which Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation.”

Huff ran a pro gun article about a week or two ago, guess that is their quota for 2015.

I am sure Huff has internal security staff to watch over the Huff corporate offices.

In light of this morning’s massacre in Paris, it s too bad the French do not have a second amendment. All France and most of Europe can do is wring their hands and try not to upset the radical Islamic groups. That massacre should have never happened though as they have laws against murder and possession of automatic weapons.

I would bet their fellow journalists from Charlie Hebdo in Paris would unanimously disagree with the Huffington Post’s ignorant opinion that our Constitutional 2nd amendment right to keep & bear firearms for self-defense is laughable. Such opinions would appear to support being unarmed & unable to defend one’s own life & the lives of those around you & therefore promote innocent unarmed individuals into being the Webster definition of murder victims.

A VERY interesting comment and worth expanding upon. Everyone take note that the HuffPost feels free to criticize freely everyone they are absolutely sure will not come after them, except verbally. HOWEVER, where are they when it comes to condemning radical Islam? Not a peep because they’re scared to death of these folks. Ah yes, real intrepid crusaders the folks at the HuffPost!

What about ‘incorporation’ in the 14th Amendment?

The huffington Post is a leading center for the queer nation in New York area. Anyone in their right mind would listen to or read this piece of crap. Any normal person who tries to post or comment on anything is immediately attacked and threatened by the legion of queers who run this rag. I would not use this for flooring in my guinea pig cage

And HuffPo is a “laughable” excuse for journalism!
Maybe “the right of the people” to speak free and have a free press should be scrutinized the same way these libtards scrutinize the 2nd Amendment?
