Colorado Gun Magazine Ban Goes Unenforced, Good People Don’t Care & Shouldn’t

Ft Collins, CO –-(Ammoland.com)- On this Memorial Day, what better topic?

Colorado's Magazine restrictions, signed into law by our leftist CO governor (Democrat, of course) who dishonorably caved-in to pressure from the BHO Administration, are currently unenforced!

Yesterday, I visited a local gun retailer and purchased several 30-round MagPul AR magazines that were on unrestricted display on store shelves. I asked the clerk about the “law,” and he indicated that it was universally, contemptuously ignored and that nobody cared.

When the law was first signed, retailers simply sold normal-capacity magazines dissembled. The purchaser subsequently put the parts back together and went his merry way.

Today, even that cynical pretense has apparently been discarded!

The problem with stupid, intelligence-insulting “laws,” passed by sleazy politicians who never even read them, is that the universal contempt they invariably generate eventually casts a pall of disrespect over the entire body of law!

When one law is disrespected (and should be), and is thus ignored (and should be) and thus largely unenforced (and should be), because even the authorities generally recognize it is stupid and unbeneficial to anyone, the societal glue that holds together our entire Civilization weakens.

When we can’t respect certain laws, we certainly can’t have any respect for politicians who passed them. Likewise, we can’t respect the electorate who put those politicians into office. Suddenly, our entire Civilization no longer deserves our respect!

On this day, we need to look back and see how far this nation, this glorious experiment, has come, and honor the heroes who brought us this far.

And then, we need look with dismay at how far we’ve plummeted in recent times due to amoral people and amoral politicians they put in positions of power.

“I sit on a man's back, choking him and making him carry me, and yet assure myself and others that I am sorry for him and wish to ease his lot by all possible means,

… except getting off his back!” ~ Leo Tolstoy

People, be assured that many citizens of Colorado are not happy with the stupid laws that are on the books. I will not vote for any Democrat, if necessary, I will write-in a name. Additionally, I am afraid our country is quickly going down. The situation about the internet being taken-over by the government is a huge step toward Communism. Our grand children are in trouble!

All of you bashers of my sane comment assume that I am a Democrat. Wrong I am a free thinking Independent. I do not let some group of radical left or right wing nuts determine who I vote for how I think. I do unlike my bashers here believe in voting out the people I disagree with and I respect our President and honor him or her with the proper address as Mr. President, currently Mr President Obama. To openly disobey a law because it might lead to another law is stupid. Not everyone agrees with you, get over it.… Read more »

Any politician that authors an unconstitutional law is a traitor and the enemy of the people. The people have the right and the duty to disobey that law. To do otherwise is unpatriotic. When they suppress my free speech, try and take away my guns, arrest and hold me with out charges, search my home and personal papers with out a warrant, I still get to vote with my rifle and cast my ballot with bullets.

Stalin, Pol, Mao all had the same ideas of uplifting the common man by restricting their ability to defend themselves. How many people truly believe the citizens (peasants ) of theses nations prospered. Instead of possibly having a shootout with 1 or 2 criminals with 30 red mags, how about defending yourself with a single shot against a government that has no respect for any of your constitutional rights.

Colorado is starting to remove the Communists (excuse me, Democrats) from office, but with the Denver/Boulder area infested with cockroaches (excuse me, Liberals) who have ruined other states and are moving here, it is difficult because that area can nearly out-vote the rest of the State population-wise.
So, it’s one Lib Communist at a time. Next one on the list is Bennet in 2016 and Hickenlooper with his cadre in 2018. As far as stupid, unenforceable laws? We’re working at it!!

I am glad to see the good people in Colorado, aren’t caving into the liberal pantywaist, that wet their pants ever time they hear a car back fire !!They made a good start with the recall but now they have to start working to remove every liberal clown in office !!

But the law is still on the books. So say you are arrested for something else, and they find a 30rd magazine in your car, the over-zealous prosecutor will file that additional charge against you. Effort should be made to overturn this bad law and not just ignore it.

If arrested and tried for having a 30 round magazine, or an unregistered, dare I say it, assault rifle, there is an answer to prosecution. It is called jury nullification. When it comes time for the verdict, the jury can vote not guilty. Jury nullification is the last citizen defense against an over reaching government. The judge, the governor, nobody can do a thing about nullification. It is a citizens duty to nullify unconstitutional laws by not allowing prosecution of a charged citizen with a law that is clearly unconstitutional..

Nobody has ever been nor ever will be arrested and tried for having a 30 round mag. Every Sheriff in the state Colorado spoke out against this law and said it is impossible to enforce and they will not enforce it. Partially because of the “grandfather clause.” If you already owned 30 round mags before this law was passed, then you’re 100% in compliance with the law. Therefore, all you have to do is say you owned the mags before the ban, and that’s it, you’re safe, they don’t ask you to prove it or anything of the sort. And,… Read more »

Ok so let’s all pick the laws we don’t like and disregard them. It is amazing that people clamor for justice and law enforcement except for the laws they do not like. Gun snobs get a life. If you can’t exist on 6 or 9 or 12 rounds, you will not do any better with 30 or 40 or 200.

Why not limit all weapons to single shot, black powder? And limit the amount of powder to a few grains? And the projectiles (bullets) to very small caliber and super light weight? Why 6 rounds when 5 might do. Or four? Or three? Or even 2?
The end result will be single shot BB guns shooting plastic BBs at no faster than you can throw them one at a time. That should work.

How about we treat the Machine Gun Act of 1986 like pot laws and allow form 1 manufacture of Full auto firearms again. Contrary to popular belief full auto firearms are allowed in most states with the proper NFA paperwork.

“…shall not be infringed.” All “laws” either infringe or have no effect. None of them create any rights, freedom or options that did not exist prior to their inception. Our Constitution also forbids creation of any privileged class, which is exactly what all licenses and permits create. Further, the right to self defense is a God given right that precedes and trumps the Constitution. Finally, it is absurd that one needs a permit or to spend money to exercise any right… As in: where’s your “free speech” permit, buddy? Geeez, has public education really slowed down the herd this much?… Read more »

JohnC should remove the 20 gallon gas tank from his car, and have installed a 2 gallon tank, That is the difference. Go to the grocery store, and buy food for tonights dinner only, not for the week. That is the difference. Inconvenience. Now when the 30 round magazine might be needed is the same as running out of gas ( with 2 gallon tank) in the middle of the night on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere in a snowstorm.

Ok let’s do that, why do you need a car that can go 150mph? you should be just fine with a car that does 50mph.

Hey John C, do you live in a bigger house than you need? Eat more than you need? Buy more “stuff” than you need? Have a faster car than you need? Have more clothes than you need? If someone passed a law that said that you could not longer have as much of these things as you wanted/needed, would it piss you off? Would you ignore it and do it any way? Do you think this has more to do with our freedom being stomped on and destroyed by brainless, spineless, incompetent politicians and their whore-of-the-week (Moms demand action) group… Read more »

Apparently, JohnC feels limits on guns, and ammunition, are the only limits that will come from king obummer and the liberals who are trying to take control of this country. The key word that JohnC misses is control. They (Liberals) control healthcare, food, gas, and much more. Soon, they will control your words. The free market that America once lived by, has almost completely collapsed. Soon, JohnC and the other obummer supporters will see what they have voted away in our so called free country. At that point, only revolution will get it back. Many of obummer supporters think we… Read more »

I assume you ALWAYS go 55 or less on the Interstate, and never 56 and above?

Yep, I knew it. So pound sand.

The majority of Americans don’t consistently obey laws that they know, in their hearts, are stupid. And, this is the way it has always been, and will continue to be.

Very nice article, John. Bastiat covered this in “The Law”: The Results of Legal Plunder It is impossible to introduce into society a greater change and a greater evil than this: the conversion of the law into an instrument of plunder. What are the consequences of such a perversion? It would require volumes to describe them all. Thus we must content ourselves with pointing out the most striking. In the first place, it erases from everyone’s conscience the distinction between justice and injustice. No society can exist unless the laws are respected to a certain degree. The safest way to… Read more »

Another example of “Legal Plunder”. Mandatory ‘minimum wage’ edicts are plundering the ‘fast food business’. We all know the Progressive ‘libtards’ want to eliminate ‘fast food’ from our diets over “health Concerns”.

Most them gun grabbing parasites call magazines clips anyway. Thats great that gun owners in CO. are telling them SOB’s where to stick that unconstitutional, unenforceable law. At least Magpul corp. headquarters moved to Texas over that nonsense.

Yeah, ain’t just going on in Colorado. Whole lot of “not caring” going on over the recent gun restrictions passed in NY and CT, as well. Makes one wonder how many folks in California aren’t in compliance with their ridiculous gun
laws. The more civil disobedience, the better.
