Washington DC – -(Ammoland.com)- When armed terrorists attacked Charlie Hebdo headquarters over Muhammad cartoons on January 7 2015, unarmed police officers were forced to flee for their lives. When armed men attacked people gathered in Garland, Texas, on May 3 2015 over Prophet Muhammad cartoons, armed police cut them down — and the Daily Mail reported that the body of one was left lying the street while police searched for explosives.

The difference between Garland and Paris can be summed up in one word: guns.

On January 7 2015, CBS News relayed reports from Britain’s Telegraph newspaper that the first two officers to arrive “were apparently unarmed” and “fled after seeing gunmen armed with automatic weapons and possibly a grenade launcher.” The UK’s Independent reported that “three policemen arrived on bikes but had to leave because [the attackers] were armed.”

BBC reported the Paris gunmen killed 12 in their attack on Charlie Hebdo headquarters; that number includes 8 Charlie Hebdo “eight journalists, two police officers, a caretaker and a visitor.”

Moreover, the terrorists were able to continue their attack at different points in and around the city for the next 48 hours.

On January 19, Breitbart News reported that French police were demanding more guns as well as guns that were more powerful.  The Charlie Hebdo attack was very lopsided — in favor of the terrorists — because of policing and arms policies, and had revealed a very important point: Gun control was not working.

Fast forward to Garland, Texas on Sunday, where approximately 75 attendees gathered in the Curtis Culwell Center to attend a contest for the best cartoon of Muhammad. The contest was sponsored by New York-based American Freedom Defense Initiative.

Just before the contest ended, two armed men allegedly drove up near the Culwell Center and shot and wounded a security guard before both were killed by heavily-armed Garland PD.

According to a City of Garland May 3 press release:

As today’s Muhammad Art Exhibit event at the Curtis Culwell Center was coming to an end, two males drove up to the front of the building in a car. Both males were armed and began shooting at a Garland ISD security officer. The GISD security officer’s injuries are not life-threatening. Garland Police officers engaged the gunmen, who were both shot and killed.

There was no prolonged, two-day pursuit of attackers, nor were there unarmed police officers dodging bullets on their bicycles. But there were plenty of guns in the hands of good guys who were keeping watch over the cartoon contest and who were charged with stopping any bad guys with guns who might show up.

I have a carry permit. I put my pants on then my pistol. I have an 870 loaded with buckshot in my truck. I will have a chance. Preparedness, practice, prevents piss poor performance, always remember the six P`s. The good policeman in Texas did! If all honest people were armed and had training, bad people would soon be eliminated from the gene pool. No more problems.T for Texas and Tennessee!

In USA firearms are regulated and I’m not saying to get rid of regulations.

Fact is criminals and those who will become a criminal after conviction of crimes(s) committed with firearms IGNORE the laws that we follow.

Laws are tools for the police to enforce and the cj system.

You can not legislate what is inside the mind of an individual, one who wants to harm or kill other citizens.

The REAL idiots, are those who believe this, story. No attendees interviewed,no fear,no tears, shooter dead as,always so its a one sided story. Etc etc. If you listen to all reports NOT ONE MAKES SENSE. It was an invite ONLY EVENT not public. Who was invited? Crooked police chief says “threats, were made but nothing specific” what????!!! Did someone call him and say “this is a threat”? Makes no sense. Also there were NEVER backpacks. Where are the guns? For “terrorists” they sure werent organized..hmmm show up after its almost over and shoot security gaurd? Spent 10s of thousands on security for UNARMED security… Read more »

Randy, I just read on CNN’s site he was using a Glock 45, probably a 21. One of my favorites is my ported barrel 21, shoots like a rim fire. Has a gun smithed CT laser. Nice piece. Great gun fight gun, for a pistol. Not a good body armor defeating pistol. Even with a high capacity 45 he was seriously out gunned. If the two ISIS wannabees had tactical training with those assault rifles, reported to be AK-47s, I’m afraid it would have been a different story. I am sure the cop had body armor, but that would have… Read more »

What was the make/model/caliber of the pistol the hero cop used? Details matter, and in this case are much more than a missing detail. Also, it would be good for somebody to interview the cop and let him talk about his training. Learn from winners, or risk being a loser like the Paris idiots.

Don’t forget … anyone can kill/maim by driving cars to people, using anything from a machete, knife, stones etc. ALL of which are inanimate objects (no mind of it’s own). A gun is just a piece of metal or plastic same as any of the above. However, to defend yourself is a God given and a Natural right same as animals rights (right PETA). How about rights of babies to defend themselves !!!!! IT is Humans who are at fault ALWAYS and not things. People have some COMMON SENSE … It is not the tools that are used … it… Read more »

Declaring a “gun free zone” around a school makes nearly as much sense as declaring a “Pee Free Zone” in a small area of my pool.

Tom, more gun control is not the answer. If we outlaw guns just like we did in the 1930’s with alcohol. The only people that will have the guns just like they did with alcohol is the criminals. I will bet you any amount of money If I had a sign in my yard that read, ” My house is protected by the second amendment and I will shoot you for breaking into my home” and your house did not have that very same sign. Who do you think the criminals are going to rob. Of course we are assuming… Read more »

This is not an article about gun control for citizens. It is making a case for easy gun access for the Police (the state).

I am a gun owner have shot competitively with everything from rim-fire pistols to full-auto battle rifles. You need to get some facts straight. You state “killed by heavily-armed Garland PD.” The bad guys confronted two officers, an unarmed school police officer who was shot and mildly wounded and an ordinary traffic officer with a pistol. I don’t know if it was a revolver, as NPR reported, or a decent automatic. However, this exchange seems to reveal some interesting things. The two wing-nuts were not weapon trained. They sprayed from their high capacity mags and did little damage, the both… Read more »

Thanks for the ‘accuracy in reporting’ comment. I was on the road the next day, and 4 radio stations reporting out of Texas on the incident did so accurately, most marveling over the skill and bravery of the officer who brought the terrorists down with his handgun.

When both sides are armed it’s a conflict where both have the same odds of survival. When only one side is armed it’s called a slaughter, the un armed side has almost no chance of survival.

Tom. If you don’t want a gun then don’t get one. Read the constitution and quit advocating more laws. You can kill people without guns. Nothing will stop a sick person from creating crimes. People find ways to do awful things I’d rather have a friend with a gun than without one.

This is very biased and blinded view at the entire discussion around gun control. You are correct in saying that this case guns probably saved the lives of many people and guns MAY have saved the lives of the Charlie Hebdo attack. But to take this incident, one in which trained officers used their guns properly, and apply it as a blanket statement for why guns should be unregulated is dangerous and misleading. This statement ignores the fact that the U.S. (which already has some of the most relaxed gun laws int he world) has a substantially larger number of… Read more »

Because we handicap cops at schools and they aren’t able to properly defend themselves, and students. Back to the point where the French police were asking for more guns as well as ones that were more powerful. Predators will always look for easier prey.

Ypu have to consider what you are saying, school shootings occur in GUN FREE zones These crazy cowards know that they will not face opposition and can inflict many people. If trained individuals were allowed to have guns on school grounds and this was public knowledge then the frequency of these incidents would decrease of not go away completely!!

Tom, the fallacy of your logic underscores the fact that at this moment, another Islamist is sitting in their home, figuring out a way to kill you, your family and your neighbors. Or there is some mental head case, who hasn’t gotten the right treatment thinking about the ways he can harm others. The simple math and human nature will continue to lead to violence. Personally I’ll take the ability to defend myself and my family with a variety of firearms versus not having that option.

There are 196 counties. Check your records off something other than FB BS and you would know that actual violent crime is pretty good. It’s been a long time since I looked it up but you should do some unbiased research and I’m sure it would open your eyes a little. No offense ment.

Give it up.
We’re beyond complexities. We’ve gone full circle. The Second Amendment has prevailed.
2 armed muslim jihadi terrorists or 20, no matter. Legal guns or not?
Once they aimed at a cop last night the guns became ILLEGAL.
Note to France: Not one US citizen died last night.
In the United States of America, we shoot back.

Tom, I am sorry to tell you, your reply to guns is not on target. You have used the many shootings at schools to make your argument. The only persons who have guns at schools are the criminals doing the killing. Remember in the wisdom of politicians the schools are gun free zones. In some districts they have unarmed security officers, sounds like France to me. Wise up Tom when Police are 10 minutes away a legally armed citizen can save the day and many lives. It happens all the time across this Nation but never reported by a biased… Read more »

If they don’t have guns they will use sticks, stones, knives, swords, or bombs.

It is better to have a gun and not need it than it is to need a gun and not have it.

First Tom, don’t qualify your facts with “first world countries” this is how the media gets away with counting stats in countries where school shootings happen with regular frequency… that’s right, Boko Herem doesn’t get counted in these stats, neither does ISIS. or any other bad guys in “3rd World countries” that murder and kidnap school children. Without qualifiers the US ranks about 103rd in shootings. Second, take a look at what is concidered a school shooting in America. If a drug deal goes bad in a school parking lot at 11:000pm, guess what. ..that’s a school shooting, if a… Read more »

Here’s a simple statement for ya Tom…
“The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles.” – Jeff Cooper

You don’t know what you are talking about. There are plenty of stories everyday in which an armed citizen defends himself or his family. They just don’t make the headlines of the liberal media. Tho I am more adept than most people with small arms. It doesn’t take that much training to effectively become a deterrent to crime. I suggest to you that you learn more about the guns you are preferring banned. You might come to like them.

Tom , what in the hell does Americans having guns to defend themselves have to do with school shootings?? It’s STILL NOT THE GUNS, when I was in high school I had a gun mounted in the back window of my truck as most of my fellow classmates did. We made hunting knives in shop class and carried them around on our person while in school. NO ONE was shot or stabbed. Sure we had fist fights but shook hands when it was over. GUNS ARE NOT THE PROBLEM.

In the mid 70’s in high school we:
1. carried pocket knives to school. We played with them at recess!
2. Had archery in PE in 8th grade. With REAL bows and arrows!
3. Made pipes in shop in 7th grade.

And that was in uber liberal Washington state!

No one has the right to deny someone the ability to own a firearm. Read your bill of rights. Sure crime will go up at first if they made it legal for all to carry. However, in the long run it would go down to a record low. Why do you thunk that crime is so low in states with the ability to carry firearms. While i do agree that certain individuals should not own a firearm, the only thing we can do is make it harder for such individuals to gain access.

Where are you cite for the Statistical data you used? Flroida State University Professor has done several studies refuting what you cited and which backs up the basis for this article. As a 20 year veteran of Law enforcement Lax gun laws are not the problem lax sentencing and liberal penal system has contributed more to this. No one is held accountable for their actions. most of your school shootings you mentioned the actor(s) were on the radar screen many times before and nothing seas done or could be done . Hey blue Tom, It looks like your comment stirred the hornets nest. It is obvious that you like gun free zones, and you wrote of several that had no shooting incidents. If the United States, and it’s Constitution, are something you are uncomfortable with, maybe you should pick one to move to. If you are so blind that you do not see that the 2nd Amendment protects all the other Amendments, maybe the responsibility of gun ownership is not for you. Being a coward, and sheep in your case, must make your life here very tough. It is sad, but… Read more »
