Dems Introduce Bill Forcing Dealers To ‘Retrofit’ Firearms With Smart Gun Technology

Washington DC – -(Ammoland.com)- On June 2, Senator  Sen. Edward Markey (D-MA) and Representative Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) introduced legislation to require the retrofitting of handguns with smart gun technology.

Called the Handgun Trigger Safety Act, the bill would require smart gun technology to be installed on all new handguns and would require gun dealers to begin retrofitting all used guns with smart gun technology within the next “10 years.”

According to The Hill, Senator Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) is co-sponsoring the Handgun Trigger Safety Act. She said, “The majority of Americans support sensible steps to reduce the bloodshed in our streets, schools, churches and other public spaces”

Smart gun technology operates in one of three ways:

  1. Biometric readers embedded in the guns that recognize the owner’s finger or palm prints.
  2. A literal code on the gun, like an iPhone screen lock, that has to be entered to make the gun operable.
  3. A paired watch or bracelet that has to be within a certain proximity of the weapon to make it fire.

Of these, the biometric readers and watch/bracelet paring are predominant. But the problem with both of these is that they are not reliable. From the start, there have been concerns over whether biometric readers can read a palm print if the owner’s hands were bloodied from fighting for his life before retrieving the gun. If the biometric reader fails in that instance, the owner might as well be holding a hammer.

Regarding the paired watch or bracelet option, hackers are already working on ways to jam the signal sent between the watch or bracelet and the gun. This would effectively render the gun inoperable and its owner defenseless.

On the other hand, even in situations where a gun paired with a watch or bracelet does work, there is nothing to keep a thief who steals the gun from stealing the watch as well. Which simply means he or she will be wearing a nice watch when they shoot someone.

Neither Markey, Maloney, or Warren addressed these problems with smart gun technology.

I would like ask these liberal tyrants a question ! If I was out of town and my handgun was retrofitted with this idiotic technology and some scum broke into my house, and my girlfriend was home alone, how could she defend herself with it ? SHE COULDNT ! It’s a totally hypothetical question but one that is deserving of an answer.

I wonder if Sen. Edward Markey (D-MA) and Representative Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) own the patents or are aligned with the ownership of this technology just like those in California that introduced the serialized firing pins bill.

Any bill such as this should make politicians personally liable for any injury caused by such a gun if it fails and the owner is killed or injured. There is no accountability placed upon these anti-gun (anti-American) people. Perhaps an automatic fine of 5M dollars would make them think (probably now, the Democrats don’t seem prone to thinking).

No more gun laws period. The only endgame acceptable is restoration of Constitutional Carry. In spirit and fact. Period. No compromiss.

OMG, this is just insane. They know nothing about firearms, self-defense, or crime statics, yet in all this ignorance they seek to make a law. It is just plain scary. I guess when you live in gated communities and have your own personal security detail (who carry guns), it is easy to make inane laws from a clueless position.

These morons, and that certainly gives legitimate morons a bad name, are the tossed off ejaculate of Nazi Jew Soros
( Who made his first real money selling off the property of real Jews, who were exterminated at Auswitcz, while he remained in Hungary and passed as a Christian) and should be shunned by all people who have honor.

The country is drowning in the BS these political ‘elites’ are spewing. They consistently find new ways to interfere in the free flow of legal commerce and ‘free market capitalism’ every chance they get. Simply stated: they believe in Communism.

Warren is incapable of opening her mouth without spewing lies. What a worthless POS she and her fellow Communists are. One day, these traitors will have to pay the Piper for their treasonous acts.

Just what you would expect from Malarky and Baloney. They introduce a crazy bill like this in the hopes they can get a watered down version to pass, just another thread to tie around Gulliver.

Before any law of this type is considered, I propose we have a test period to see if it will work. The test group should consist of president Obama, vice-president Biden and their staffs, all politicians from the small town mayor to the governor of all states, senators, representatives and all bodyguards of any type. Both these individuals and their bodyguards would be armed with an assortment of these weapons and see how successful they perform for self defense.

A preliminary field test of three years should be conducted. The perfect test groups would be all Federal law enforcement including the Secret Service. After all, any LEO’s that are in favor of this should be lining up to implement it, right? 🙂

Law enforcement that are clamoring for this should be willing to be the first to field test it for, oh say, three years.

Unfortunately, the WH would just print enough money to make it work.

This is unconstitutional. It will not pass, but if it did it would be ignored. They would effectively create criminals where none existed. The pork that should be attached to this bill is the creation of enough prisons to house 140 million gun owners.
