Mitt Romney: Take Down the Confederate Flag, It’s ‘A Symbol of Racial Hatred’

Washington DC – -(Ammoland.com)- On June 20 2015 former GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney called for South Carolina to remove the Confederate flag from their state Capitol grounds in Columbia.

His call comes in the wake of the heinous attack on Charleston’s Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church. It follows a photo of the suspected gunman, Dylann Roof, in which Roof is seen leaning against his car with a Confederate flag license plate visible on the front of his vehicle being widely circulated.

Here were Romney’s exact words: “Take down the Confederate Flag at the SC Capitol. To many, it is a symbol of racial hatred. Remove it now to honor Charleston victims.”

With this, Romney joins President Obama in calling for the flag to be removed. In so doing, the former presidential candidate fails to realize he is taking a page of out of the left’s playbook, whereby they blame the flag instead of the miscreant, the gun instead of the gunman, etc.

While Romney’s motivations for doing this are unknown, the left does it because crisis affords them a window of opportunity whereby they can use emotion to succeed where reason has failed.

On April 17 Breitbart News reported that a group of black students demanded that Washington & Lee University–the very namesake of General Robert E. Lee–remove Confederate flags from campus and bar the Sons of Confederate Veterans from marching on campus for Lee-Jackson day, among other things. The group deemed the flags offensive. On July 27 Breitbart News reported that Washington & Lee University capitulated.

All eyes are on now Governor Nikki Haley (R) to see if she will likewise capitulate to Obama and Romney, blaming a flag from 1863 for the alleged criminal actions of a 21-year-old on June 17, 2015.

McClatchy DC reports that Senator

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) has already weighed in to say that blaming the flag for Roof’s alleged actions is like blaming a ”book he might have read or a movie he watched or a song he listened to.”

Graham said, “It’s him… not the flag.”

Forcing South Carolina to remove the flag is ignorant.Just like everybody saying that it’s a racist symbol. These idiots should learn American history before they open their mouths.Next thing to go will be the monuments and statues that pay tribute to the fighting men of the Confederacy. These were men of honor, courage, faith, dedication, loyalty and respect! Something I have NOT seen come out of D.C or any political arena in decades! Blaming a flag for racial tension is poor excuse of leadership and it goes a long way to show you how pathetic America has become. With both parties clamoring for future votes from… Read more »

There will always be racism , and sexism . Need to have some ignorant voters to exploit and use for mob rule economics. How about balancing the budget Mitt and Obama your accounting skills offend taxpayers, The middleclass is dying paying for lower class healthcare and for wars that have no end , and never ending costs. Still we are in Japan , Korea , Thailand,Germany Paid a billion to Kyrgyzstan to have a base there , and still paying.
Cost overuns need to be limited. Countries that want military presence should be paying us for all costs.

Long live the heart of Dixie. The confederate flag has nothing to do with hatred or slavery just as the civil war was not about slavery but rather the industrialization of the south the way the thought it should be and slavery was just an amendment to the true reason of the industrialization of the south just as obummer is trying to do with gun control right now with sneaking a amendment into other bills that would ratify the UN Arms treaty he has been trying to get passed since he was placed in the office he holds by the… Read more »

Respectfully disagree, you don’t see any government buildings in Germany waving the Nazi flag do you? Was that also not part of their history. The flag is a symbol of succession, not unity. And unity is at the heart of America!

The post war Nazi flags and insignia are illegal to publicly flown or shown in Germany and France . Original historic items may be displayed .
Too much fuss over a flag from 150 years ago. Move on.

I must add, the so called “Confederate Battle Flag” was the true flag of the Confederate States of America. It was the only flag of the Confederacy that showed 13 stars indicating the number of states in the Confederation. Also the cross of St Andrew is on the flag. There is nothing to be ashamed of the flag, it only flies in most Southern people’s heart as the honor the family that died in that conflict. The Sons of Confederate Veterans simply honor their families that gave so much, yet they are called racists (uh huh) and are used as… Read more »

Are they going to take down the stars and stripes too as a symbol of racist genocide against the Native Americans?

If Mitt Romney and the South Carolina Governor knew their history, they would know that the Civil War was about states rights. The South was paying more than their fair share of taxes and not getting their fair share of govt assistance in return. Not only that, if you knew what Lincoln thought of black people, you would know he was definitely racists. He thought black people were sub-human and should never be allowed to vote. The only reason he freed the slaves was because he thought it would de-stableize the South. He was also a queer. Keep in mind… Read more »

Romney is an idiot ! That mormon will say anything to appease the blacks. That fool has no knowledge of what the ‘war between the states’ was about or what the flag means. If the flag offends blacks they need to get over it or not look at it.

Mitt Romney is a total idiot. If blacks don’t like the Confederate flag don’t look at it. (I have it tattooed on my arm and hanging on the wall in my house) That flag is an integral part of Southern history and will continue to be. (The good part about all this is that confederate flags, bumper stickers, tattoo sales will sky rocket) SC will never remove that flag. What’s next the MS state flag ? There are so many things about blacks that irritate me I don’t know where to start. The one that comes to mind first is the African… Read more »

Bless your carpet bagging hearts! Y’all now going to use this utmost tragic event to get the state of South Carolina to finally bend its knee to the will of carpet baggers in 2015 when it didn’t do so after the war between the states to bring down the Southern Cross. How about y’all go chase yourself…
