New York –-(Ammoland.com)- The New York State Rifle & Pistol Association is pleased the State Senate passed bill S-5837 repealing portions of the so-called SAFE Act.

“The SAFE Act is an undeniable failure at preventing violent crime. The increase in shootings and assaults across New York City prove that,” NYSRPA President Tom King stated.

“This common sense bill is a good first step at restoring the civil rights of millions of New Yorkers.”

King concluded, “There is nothing wrong with a person admitting they made a mistake. The Governor and State Assembly should have the courage to say they did just that. On behalf of the millions of firearm owners all across the state, I encourage the Assembly to take up take up companion legislation before the end of regular sessions next week.”

This bill does nothing to help gun owners! Nobody was DUMB ENOUGH to register for confiscation. NYSRPA is apparently out of touch and thinks that “tens of thousands” of people were dumb enough to register for confiscation. Show this bill to any TRUE gun rights organization across the country and watch how fast they LAUGH AT YOU. NYers should join an organization that is ACTUALLY WILLING TO FIGHT TO REPEAL THE SAFE act. Not pass legislation that is a COMPLETE JOKE AND DOES NOT HELP ANYONE. I will encourage everyone I know to join a different organization. Also, the GOP… Read more »

Nobody was stupid enough to register for confiscation. This bill wis a joke. The fact that they support it shows that they are not worthy of our money. Show this bill to a true pro gun rights organization across the country and watch how fast they laugh at you. New Yorkers should join an organization that’s willing to fight to repeal the whole safe act. This bill does nothing and I will attack anyone who supports this garbage.

.Ye of little faith. The senate has passed meaningful reforms to the SAFE ACT. They have promised to make a good faith effort to see this legislation passed. I am taking them at their word. We all know they have one third of the authority, we all know the democrats want a ton of legislation passed favorable to them. I say that puts the republican leadership in the state senate in a very strong position to get things done for their core constituency. Let’s let the process play it self out. If the republicans in leadership fail to produce results… Read more »

The fact that you people support this legislation shows how screwed we are. This bill does nothing to help gunowners since nobody was stupid enough to register for confiscation. This is why true pro gun rights organizations across the country are laughing at us. This is why I am encouraging New Yorkers to join an organizaton who is willing to fight to REPEAL THE SAFE ACT. This bill is a complete joke and I can’t find a single American outside of New York I would ever support this. If this is what passes for a pro gun rights organization that… Read more »

Headline is misleading, nothing has been repealed. The bill hasn’t even made it through the assembly and its doubtful Cuomo would ever sign away pieces of his baby. Never mind the fact that the “portions” are more like tiny insignificant table scraps that do nothing to improve the freedom of New Yorkers…

The headline is not misleading…the NY Senate did vote in favor of a “partial repeal” of some provisions of the “Safe Act”…now it’s up to the assembly. Some of you folks that are bad mouthing the NRA and the NYSRPA need to take a breath. I live in California so I believe I understand your frustrations and I can also offer some insight to the issue. 1- A full repeal of the Safe Act at this juncture is an impossible task and unrealistic at this time…you know it, I know it! 2- Should these ” table scraps” make it to… Read more »

The New York State Rifle & Pistol Association is the most useless “gun right” org. and a sell out. Only complete repeal should be accepted. Fight it!

This is the NRA State Affiliate Club. Everyone needs to call them & the NRA and let them know in no uncertain terms that there will be no half measures accepted. And they (the NRA) will be held accountable.

This is a sham, they didn’t really do anything in this bill except enforce further the regulation for re-registration. We are being treated like subjects not citizens.
