Six-Day Hunting Packages Offered at Inn of the Mountain Gods.
Mescalero, N.M. – -(Ammoland.com)- With more than 460,000 acres of open hunting area and a healthy, growing elk herd, the Mescalero Apache Reservation is a must-visit destination for big game hunters.
Within the confines of this sub-alpine and valley terrain, hunters experience the pride of hunting some of the finest bull elk, cow elk, bear and wild Merriam turkey in North America.
This distinction comes as a direct result of the Tribe’s commitment to build strong and healthy herds after they reintroduced 162 Rocky Mountain elk to the region during the late 1960s. The native Merriam elk were tragically driven to extinction during the early 1900s. Today, however, the Tribe’s current elk herd numbers over 4,200 head with 72 percent of the cows giving birth each year, ensuring the herds and the hunts will continue to be successful for years to come.
Inn of the Mountain Gods, owned and operated by the Mescalero Apache Tribe, invites hunters to enjoy an unforgettable experience with their Big Game Hunts including the ultimate Bull-Elk Package. Starting at $14,500, the packages include six nights of lodging in one of the Inn’s 273 luxury rooms, one hunting permit, breakfast each morning as well as boxed lunches and dinners for each day on the hunt. Additionally, the package includes one vehicle piloted by a reservation hunting guide, horses, standard skinning and processing, and complete access to the entire hunting ground parameters.
Those not interested in trophy hunting may purchase a Management Bull-Elk Package for $2,000. A management bull-elk is classified as any elk with one or more abnormal or freak antlers. These packages include the same amenities as the trophy Bull-Elk Package, however management elk hunters are prohibited from harvesting trophy elk, and are responsible for the cost of said elk. Management packages are limited to 25 permits.
Each hunt lasts four days, with check-in and checkout the days before and after respectively. Package add-ons are also available for non-hunters.
The Big Game Hunt coincides with Mescalero’s already thriving hunting season, where hunters are exposed to a variety of prey like bears, cow-elk, and Merriam turkey. Bull-elk hunters are invited to add a Merriam turkey permit to their package for $250.
