Two Year Rise In Shootings Prove New York’s SAFE Act Not Working

ALBANY, NY – -(Ammoland.com)-  The New York Times first reported last week that shootings in New York City have been rising for the past two years.

This was followed by the NYPD reporting a 19.5% increase in City homicides during the first five months of the year.

Now, according to WABC News Ch. 7, felony assaults on the subway are up 27%.

Taken together it should be blindingly obvious now that New York’s new gun control laws are NOT doing what advocates said they would.

“During the last election, Governor Cuomo ran political ads stating “The NY SAFE Act is saving lives,” NYSRPA President Tom King said.

“The results prove the exact opposite is happening. It is time for our elected officials to have an honest and open discussion on the SAFE Act and why states with less restrictive gun laws do not have these problems.”

An AR15 is not sufficient in most cases to kill big game such as deer unless the range is close (less than 100 meters) and the hunter, shooter is very skilled at bullet placement. The AE15 is a 22 rifle and is too under powered for anything other than small game. Your average bolt action single shot hunting rifle is far far more deadly than than a AR15 AND CAN SHOOT 10 TIMES FARTHER AND STILL KILL MOST ANYTHING THAT WALKS, TALKS, CRAWLS, OR FLIES ON PLANET EARTH. So get off the AR15 being the deadly killing machine that it… Read more »

When I pass the many front lawns that display the statement “Repeal the Safe Act” I always come back with the loud reply ~ “Repeal the Republicans that voted for the SAFE ACT”!!!!!
Without there vote these RINOS would have prevented this TYRANY!

peter

Cold Hard facts? You say your are against the safe act? Really?? Well why don’t you educated yourself before you post? Go out and buy a few hunting magazines or magazines like Guns and ammo! The are full of AR type guns used for hunting of all types from varmint to deer size and larger. You are uninformed my friend and possibly disingenuous !

Stupid People?

My background 38 yrs in Law Enforcement line office and supervisor~

For one thing i am against the safe act but you ar-15s are assault weapons but you do not need an ar-15 to drop a der so get facts straight before you start throwing things out in the open i do not like the safe act but i cant stand when stupid people start giving views that arent backed by cold hard facts!

rich

ok gov. how many ar-15s are registed in this state ( of endless laws) it is easier for a criminal to get a weapon than a law abiding citizen…NOTE, AR-15s are NOT ASSULT WEAPONS stop lying to people , they are used for hunting

Chris

I’d be interested in Connecticut crime rate during the same period, or any of the states that followed and increased their draconian laws.

Tim

The safe act was never about safety or the lessening of crime. It was about government control and the degradation of the 2nd amendment. Facts and statistics mean nothing to the anti second amendment crowd. They rely on emotion, an uniformed electorate and a corrupt biased media to forward their agenda. We gun owners must be vigilant and hold these politicians responsible to their “constitutional duties”.

Graham

Not surprised, need to disarm criminals not decent citizens. How about a sweep thru the projects – remove all the illegal weapons – wait that wouldn’t be very “politically correct” would it.
@Eric – even in the UK criminals obtain any type of Firearm available including FA weapons, homeowners “fortify” their homes in an attempt to keep criminals OUT – still plenty of armed home invasions (usually unreported by the media)

Eric

NY is like the UK , they would rather see you a victim rather than using self defense. So much so most NYers that do defend themselves end up being charged with weapons misconduct , bandishing , murder , so that you will take a plea deal and lose your weapons anyway. As a victim , they ask for more tax money for more worthless cops , that don’t stop criminals untill it escalates to a high dollar or felony charge. They blame people for having valuables in their vehicles , yet let petty thieves off, lord forbid you pull… Read more »

#1 The gun-grabbers don’t care that the UnSAFE Act doesn’t reduce crime.
#2 Thank God the UnSAFE Act doesn’t reduce crime. If it did, that is all the justification they would need to start confiscating guns state wide.
#3 It doesn’t matter if it DID reduce crime. Infringing the civil rights of law abiding citizens is not the solution to violence committed with guns. Society needs to find an effective way to do that. Gun control hasn’t, isn’t, and won’t ever be the solution.

Wayne Bailey

Make new York safe elect a republican and support constitutional carry. Want it even safe make a law requiring every head of household to have to carry a handgun at all times

Gene Ralno

IMO, much of the increased crime is due to the current regime’s racist rabble rousing but it’s interesting that it seems concentrated in the entitlement laden, expensive, gun (not-so) free zones.

George

It is simple. When you have the right to defend yourself in public, the criminals leave for greener pastures. Why do you think when you watched America’s Most Wanted, they were always thought to be headed to California or NYC? Because they want to go where their prey is least likely to be able to defend themselves.
