Milford, NH –-(Ammoland.com)- It is with great sadness that I am writing to inform you that Governor Hassan has vetoed SB 166, the Constitutional carry bill that we have been fighting so hard to pass through the legislature.
I was hoping that the thousands of petitions, the ceaseless phone calls, the constant stream of emails, and the drum-beat of our FAXed messages to the Governor’s office would dissuade her from making good on her promise to veto this bill.
But outside forces have prevailed upon her to maintain the status quo — a law with despicable racist origins, which is being used to this day to unjustifiably deny New Hampshire residents their constitutional right to self-protection.
I was disgusted to read the governor’s veto statement, in which she cynically claims to support the second amendment, while in reality she marches in lock-step with the Obama administration and its relentless attempts to render the people helpless in the face of government’s ever-expanding powers.
But believe me, this fight is not over. I am confident that in the long run we are going to prevail, because you have shown me that the grassroots gun owners are a tireless force who will not be bowed, will not be intimidated, and will not shy away from this most important struggle.
Having come this close — the closest in a century — to overturning this unjust licensing regime, we know that the time is surely coming when we will be able to renew the spirit of liberty that our Founders so cherished. Already we have begun working on the next phase of our campaign to secure and preserve your rights, to work out a veto-proof majority that Bloomberg-backed Governor Hassan will be unable to block.
And even failing that, there will be another governor soon enough, and we have demonstrated that we can pass a bipartisan Constitutional Carry bill.
I know I can count on your continued support. You can count on our dedication to continue this fight, and together, we will again make constitutional carry the law of the land in New Hampshire.
