Fairfax, VA -( The National Rifle Association’s Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) lauded Congressman Sam Johnson (R-TX), Chairman of the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Social Security, for his swift action urging the Social Security Administration (SSA) to stop developing a system to enter social security beneficiaries into the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), which is the Obama administration’s latest effort to deny millions of Americans their Second Amendment rights without due process.

“If left to their own devices, President Obama’s Social Security Administration would be free to implement the largest gun grab in American history,” said Chris W. Cox, executive director of the NRA-ILA. “The NRA appreciates Chairman Johnson’s swift action to put a halt to this outrageous scheme that would deny millions of Americans a fundamental constitutional right because they need or want help managing their finances.”

According to a published news report, the SSA is considering a policy to provide the names of social security and disability beneficiaries who have a “representative payee” to the NICS. Once entered into the NICS, a person loses their Second Amendment rights and is prohibited from possessing or owning a firearm. If implemented as reported, this would instantly deny more than four million Americans their Second Amendment rights based on their willingness or ability to manage their finances.

“The Obama administration will stop at nothing to strip as many people as possible of their Second Amendment rights,” Cox said. “The NRA will employ all means available to prevent the implementation of such a widespread injustice.”

The Veterans Administration (VA) has already implemented a similar program to designate veterans as “prohibited persons” when they have a fiduciary assigned to administer their VA benefits. Like the SSA program described above, the VA procedures are also devoid of significant due process protections. To date, 177,000 veterans have been denied their constitutional rights based on their inability to manage their financial affairs.

The SSA’s actions stem from a 2013 Obama administration memorandum. The memorandum directed numerous government agencies to comb their records and identify any information that could be “relevant” to identifying dangerous and mentally unstable people for NICS reportage. Currently, federal prohibitions against acquiring or possessing firearms apply to felons, drug addicts, those adjudicated as “mentally defective” and others convicted of certain violent misdemeanors.

The prohibition the SSA is reported to be developing would expand the current criteria to include those receiving benefits who need or want help managing their money.

This is an open letter to EVERY person who has ever served in the Gov.’t since 1992. Once again you have doused your hands in the blood of UNARMED service personal. I will start with every member of Congress since 1992, through the presidents of Wm. Jefferson Clinton, George Walker Bush & Barack Hussain Obama, all the members of the Supreme Court [& all the lower courts as well] & every UNelected bureaucrat that has every worked for the gov.’t since then. Everyone of you are responsible for the disarming of the military bases [every office space is a base]… Read more »

Look at the bright side – every government official, current or past, responsible for leaving our Marines unable to defend themselves may all choke on their dinners tonight, along with everyone in this nation who is OK with overturning the Constitution and ANY of our Rights guaranteed therein! I’M certainly good with that! (They’re the same people who say the world is overpopulated, so they should be OK with that as well)

“SHALL NOT be INFRINGED” was written as a commanding prohibition. Shall is a command, Not is a Prohibition, Infringed as used in the law at the time of the writing of the constitution implies trespass which is entry and transgress which is encroachment; thus we have a commanding prohibition against the entry and encroachment on the right to keep and bear arms. The good congressman sent a letter urging SS to not send the data to the NICS. We need to do more than urge, the program must be fully defunded and congress must exert its authority and stop this… Read more »

You’re all a bunch of self serving a%$holes. Get your heads out of your asses and realize g that 2nd amendment is not an absolute. Public safety should come first IP:

It is you that needs to have your recto-cranial inversion cured. The 2A is most certainly ABSOLUTE in that the “government” is STRICTLY PROHIBITED from INFRINGING UPON THE RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS. It could not be more clear. “PUBLIC SAFETY is the VERY REASON we have the RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS. You want us to live in a POLICE STATE. There are PLENTY of countries where your dreams have come true; feel free to relocate to one.

@no body (very appropriate),the 2A IS an absolute ! You liberal douches might not think so but who cares what you think anyway ? It don’t get anymore absolute than the 2A to the constitution. Public safety should always come first, the main reason for the 2A and why it is absolute and will always be.

Yes, oh, so ignorant one, the Second Amendment is AN ABSOLUTE! Whether it’s James Madison, Tenche Cox, Patrick Henry, Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Governour Morris, George Mason or ANY OTHER OF THE MEN RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS NATION BEING ONE FOUNDED ON CONSTITUTIONAL LIBERTY, EVERY ONE of them state that the People’s Right and Duty to be armed as members of the Militia. You may (or may not) read Federalist Paper #29 to know the description of the Militia as understood in the Constitutional Convention. You may (or may not) read Federalist #46 to find the title given by James Madison… Read more »

My thanks to the Congressman for championing this cause. The VA should not be denying veterans their rights. We already have existing laws in place to remove weapons from the mentally ill, which afford that person due process and adjudication in a court of law. What the VA is doing is tyranny. But they see nothing wrong in making vets suffer for months just to see a doctor, or make them drive hundreds of miles.

This sounds like an attempt to take firearms away from old white guys – but If they are going to include people on disability, he should introduce an amendment to apply the same logic to voting rights since the disability rolls are supposedly abused by healthy people who will vote for the hand that feeds them (i.e. liberal progressives). The rationale is that when the German people voted to elect Hitler, they enabled him to kill more people than individuals ever could with privately owned firearms.

Vet on tour

I wonder how many ardent Second Amendment supporters like me who read this piece and will commend Congressman Johnson for his work; would then on seeing the comments from “TEX” (African born Muslim POS; REALLY!!!) wonder whether we are back in 1930s Germany. There is nothing like demonizing the opposition to make yourself feel good.

Thank you Congressman Johnson[R-TX] I believe every gun owner should join the NRA.. I am a proud member myself and I contribute to them when I can, I also buy a membership for a service man or woman when I have extra funds . Again a big thank you

I’ll say thanks for those u have paid for. But I’ll never be a member of the NRA. I am a vet and support the 2nd Admendment to the end. But I cannot support an organation that employs people that puts other people down.

Great job Congessman Sam Johnson (R-TX) ! Texans don’t mess around and go after tyrannissts and unconstitutional liberal legislation. Being native Texan its makes me so proud. ‘Texas like a whole other country’ ! ‘Nuff said !

The main thing our Republican controlled House/Senate need to do the next year and a half is to shut down the African born muslim POS and his tyrannical agenda in its tracks completely . I really think the overwhelming vast majority of ‘real Americans’ are just sick and tired of being sick and tired. We will have a Republican President soon and he will have to spend both full terms in office undoing, repealing, overturning 8 years of Obama socialist policy, get our economy back track, fix our education system, border security, illegal immigration, health care, etc.,…so much to do ! No easy task ! But… Read more »

The problem is the leaders in both the house and senate both will do whatever the dictator tells them to do, those two are not just rinos but are and have been acting like ROBOTS.
