Washington DC – -(Ammoland.com)- During the August 23 2015 airing of Third Rail on Al Jazeera, the executive director of New Yorkers Against Gun Violence, Leah Gunn Barrett, suggested women are too weak to be allowed to carry guns for self-defense on college campuses.

She made this suggestion in the face of Florida state Representative Rehwinkel Vasilinda (D-9th), although Vasilinda was the victim of “attempted rape” while in college – an “attempted rape” that she was able to stop by grabbing the gun her father had given her for self-defense.

Vasilinda made clear she wants to see Florida pass laws opening the door for women on campuses today to be similarly armed for self-defense.

Barrett responded to Vasilinda by claiming college campuses are “some of the safest places in the nation” and asking why we “would want to change that” by allowing law-abiding women to carry guns for self-defense. Barrett then made clear that she would never allow her daughter, who is a sophomore in college, to attend a school where women and other law-abiding citizens are allowed to carry guns for self-defense.

Vasilinda countered, explaining that college campuses are not bastions of safety, but places where “20 percent of women” are victims of rape or sexual assault. She said she is very concerned about the safety of women who are denied the ability to defend themselves via campus carry.

Barrett then countered with a suggestion that women are too weak to carry guns for self-defense.

She said, “Women are not physically powerful like men are. A gun could easily be turned on the woman, and it is frequently.”

This is the same Leah Gunn Barrett that once basically insisted: There is no such thing as a law-abiding gun owner.

After further cross questioning, Barrett said she did not agree that the nine unarmed church-goers at Charleston’s Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church would have been safer if armed.

Is she trying to say all armed forces and police are criminals because they carry guns and that they will shoot up theaters full of people? Maybe she is the only female that can’t handle a gun so she assumes all women are like her! As for being safe in school, she is probably right for herself, who would want to rape her 😀

Right … women are OK to join the US Army Rangers, but too weak to carry a gun. Does this dimshit have any clue what real women are about or is her model woman the “Democratic Party Girl”?

So, if a man were to say that a woman would be too weak to defend herself, he would figuratively be tarred and feathered as a chauvinistic pig. But, if an anti-gun woman were to declare the same thing, she would be held as a bastion of common sense. I would say “go figure,” but I know why this anti-gun woman is saying this; she’s “shooting from the hip,” figuratively speaking, using any and all ammo to support her chosen agenda because the ends justify the means … even if the ends are hypocritical, deceptive, even dishonorable. And this is… Read more »

Too weak? The other parents in our 4H Shooting club are astounded that my tiny 11 year old daughter is a dead-on shot with a rifle that looks far too big for her. It’s only an air rifle, but she shoots better than the boys who are older and bigger than her.

So then, women shouldn’t be cops, or firefighters, or lifeguards, or truck drivers… thanks for clearing that up, Leah. Now shut up, take off your shoes, and get back to the kitchen.

Boy, the stupid is strong in this one.

I guess all female law enforcement and military need to resign and turn in their service weapons.

Sounds like a control freak. If her daughter is 18 mommy can’t stop her.

“…college campuses are “some of the safest places in the nation” !?!?

I don’t know where she’s getting her information – even back when I was in school, colleges were notorious for their massive under-reporting of crimes on campus.

Why are these stupid bastards given any ink. They are so stupid no one should pay any attention to them.

It reads like Leah Gunn Barrett is OK with her daughter going to a college gun free zone where here chances of
being attached are rather high. Maybe seeing her daughter badly beaten, or dead, will awaken her, someday. That
is not the future I would want for my daughter. Stupid is as stupid does.

There’s no such thing as a law-abiding woman. Equipped from birth for prostitution, next thing you know, she’s a prostitute.

Even if it were true, and the DOJ data clearly indicate that it is not, that women are more likely to have their guns taken away and used against them, it could not justify denying any individual woman the right to carry a gun to defend herself. The fact that some, or many, or even most, women are not able to use a gun successfully for self-defense, can never be used to justify depriving the potential exception to the rule, her right to effective self-defense. Further, if it were true that women are too weak to defend themselves, then they… Read more »

Wait a moment. Women are too weak? Women aren’t physically powerful? Tell that to the young women who just graduated Ranger school. What happened to the liberal-feminist pitch that “women can do anything men can do” and women are equals? We should also remember that her claim that there are no law-abiding gun owners is patently and demonstrably false. However, the claim that gun control advocates are frequent serial liars and distorters of fact is not. Leah Gunn Barrett probably won’t be in her current job much longer, judging from her Linked-In profile. With the exception of an 8-year job… Read more »

Ms. Barrett obviously has not met my wife. My dear spouse is quite petite, strong as a wrestler (from decades of swimming) and a crack shot with both handgun and rifle. As a former shooting instructor, I observed that on average women are better shots than men. Now that is anecdotal evidence, none the less, that is what I experienced.

Apparently there is no such thing as a ‘law abiding anti-gunner’ either. They constantly ignore the 2nd Amendment and other protections in the U.S. Constitution.

Laddyboy. I realize that, RIF {reading is fundamental}, but appears that there is one political party who makes things up to carry out their agenda as they go along. L.G. Barrett is that type of person. The same type as the Washington DC police chief and the SAP.

The bearing of any kind of weapon is the RIGHT if EVERY American IF One CHOOSES to carry two + pounds of weaponry around with them wherever they travel. This DISCUSSION has ALREADY been settled. The DECISION is called the Constitution of These United States of America. Too be more specific, read the Second Amendment where it ends with these words; “shall not be infringed.”

Apparently, Moms Demand that they stay barefoot and in the kitchen where they belong… I thought that issue was resolved years ago.
