Kruse Places in Prominent Outdoor Writers Competition

Missoula, MT -(AmmoLand.com)- Outdoor Writers Association of America is pleased to announce that John Kruse of Cashmere, Washington, was recognized as an award recipient during the 2015 OWAA Excellence in Craft Contests.

This annual awards program recognizes and honors the best work of outdoor communicators who are members of OWAA. This year, 62 individuals took home a total of nearly $12,000 in cash prizes. For more info, visit http://owaa.org/eic.

His awards:

First place in the outdoor fun & adventure category of the Radio/Podcast contest for “Route of the Hiawatha,” Northwestern Outdoors Radio, August 16, 2014. The outdoor fun & adventure category recognizes the best outdoor recreation work from the various non-consumptive sports. This includes, but is not limited to, outdoor sports such as camping/backpacking, boating, hiking, birding, snow skiing, orienteering, mountain biking and general outdoor activities.

First place in the conservation category of the Radio/Podcast contest for “Winter Whale Watching,” Northwestern Outdoors Radio, December 26, 2014. The conservation category recognizes pieces with an emphasis on successes or challenges within conservation; interesting new discoveries within nature; or a fascinating tale about a creature, plant or ecosystem. The prize money for this category was sponsored by The Pew Charitable Trusts.

First place in the family participation/youth outdoor education category of the Radio/Podcast contest for “Creating Memories for Disabled Children,” Northwestern Outdoors Radio, December 20, 2014. The family participation/youth outdoor education category recognizes excellence in communicating the value and enjoyment of family participation and youth education in the outdoors. The prize money for this category was sponsored by Realtree.

Second place in the gear/technical category of the Radio/Podcast contest for “Wide Angle Shooting Systems,” Northwestern Outdoors Radio, December 13, 2014. The gear/technical category pieces must be informative about gear; or instructional in how to use outdoor equipment in an entertaining yet easy-to-understand manner.

Third place in the fishing category of the Radio/Podcast contest for “Montana Ice Fishing with Mike Howe,” Northwestern Outdoors Radio, January 11, 2014. The fishing category includes freshwater and saltwater, any tackle. Emphasis should be on human interest or adventure within the sports. The prize money for this category was sponsored by the Ocean Conservancy.

John Kruse is the host and producer of Northwestern Outdoors Radio. His hour-long weekly show began broadcasting on its flagship station at News Radio 560 KPQ in Wenatchee, Washington, in October 2007. Today, Northwestern Outdoors is heard on more than 50 stations in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana. Kruse lives in Cashmere, Washington.
