Thomas Sowell : My Random Thoughts on the Passing Scene, August 2015

California -(Ammoland.com)- Random thoughts on the passing scene:

Stupid people can cause problems, but it usually takes brilliant people to create a real catastrophe.

President Obama's “agreement” with Iran looks very much like “the emperor's new clothes.” We are supposed to pretend that there is something there, when there is nothing there that will stop, or even slow down, Iran's development of a nuclear bomb.

The endlessly repeated argument that most Americans are the descendants of immigrants ignores the fact that most Americans are NOT the descendants of ILLEGAL immigrants. Millions of immigrants from Europe had to stop at Ellis Island, and had to meet medical and other criteria before being allowed to go any further.

Governor Bobby Jindal: “I realize that the best way to make news is to mention Donald Trump. … So, I've decided to randomly put his name into my remarks at various points, thereby ensuring that the news media will cover what I have to say.”

Governor Jindal's outstanding record in Louisiana should have gotten him far more attention from the media than Trump's bombast.

In her latest book, “Adios, America” Ann Coulter says, “if Romney had won 71 percent of the Hispanic vote in 2012, instead of 27 percent, he still would have lost. On the other hand, had he won just 4 percent more of the white vote, he would have won.”

Despite an old saying that taxes are the price we pay for civilization, an absolute majority of the record-breaking tax money collected by the federal government today is simply transferred by politicians from people who are not likely to vote for them to people who are more likely to vote for them.

Do the people who are always demanding that there be more “training” for police ever say that the hoodlums that the police have to deal with should have had more training by their parents, instead of being allowed to grow wild, like weeds?

Europe is belatedly discovering how unbelievably stupid it was to import millions of people from cultures that despise Western values and which often promote hatred toward the people who have let them in.

There are so many conservative Republican candidates for the party's presidential nomination that they may once again split the conservative vote so many ways as to guarantee that the nomination will go to some mushy moderate.

Barack Obama wrote a book titled “The Audacity of Hope.” His own career, however, might more accurately be titled “The Mendacity of Hype.”

With all its staggering horrors and insanities, World War II may yet turn out to have been just a dress rehearsal for the ultimate catastrophe of a nuclear-armed terrorist nation like Iran.

Ronald Reagan won two landslide victories with the help of “Reagan Democrats.” These were voters who usually voted for Democrats but were now voting for Reagan. He got these voters by winning them over to his policy agenda — not by adjusting his policy agenda to them, as the Republican establishment today seems to think is the way to expand their constituency.

Some observations from a native Louisianian. 1. Jindal is not that well liked. He is prone to conduct too many meetings behind closed doors. He claims he will block the ultra leftist government of New Orleans from tearing down certain monuments dedicated to leaders of the Confederacy; we will just have to see how successful he is with that. 2. A Jesuit Priest (John Sheehan, SJ) once said….Every time someone says that Israel is our only friend in the Middle East, I cannot help but think that before Israel we had no enemies in the Middle East. 3. Question: What… Read more »

Old handloader, where do I start.
1.any symbol of the confederacy killed anyone lately? Sanity might return when O’Bozo is gone.
2.Israel came back into existence in 1948 amid many segments that hated America/Britain/ etc. They kept their mouths shut out of FEAR. With our apologist in Chief’s world tour that is no longer the case.
3.Besides, Pakistan & India I will have to do a little more research.

I agree with CarlCasino. It is a LOT more complicated than just “picking” a better ally. You can start by reading up on your history, try tackling the Ottoman empire and how its collapse ended with the British gaining control over the Holy Land and eventually restoring it to the Jews. If you read about all the genocides that occurred during the Ottoman rule and who was responsible, you’ll understand how the Jews and Israel stacked up much more favorably and amicably with American democratic ideals than all the other surrounding countries. There are some VERY good reasons we support… Read more »

My Observations: 1. Gov. Jindal is, in all honestly, not too well liked in Louisiana. He has had too many private meetings that should have been public; in keeping with Sunshine rules. On a positive note he says that he will intercede in New Orleans to halt the tearing down and removal of several iconic monuments dedicated to historic men of The Confederacy. We’ll have to see how that plays out. 2. Regarding the Middle East, there was a Jesuit Priest (John Sheehan, S.J.) who said…Every time someone says that Israel is our only friend in the Middle East, I… Read more »

This country’s problems with the Middle East, especially Iran comes from their hated of us. Our way of life and our beliefs are what they despise which wasn’t caused by any one person. As for Obama, he has not done one thing he said he would do during his campaignes, with the exception of Obama Care, and that’s not a good thing. It’s because of this that many Democrats have distanced themselves from him and his agregous policies. Nothing is written in stone as far as the Iran deal is concerned and still needs congressional approval. My guess is that… Read more »

“The last thing this world needs is a terrorist controlled nation with nukes.”

TO LATE! – Israel already has them.

Israel is a terrorist nation? You’re an uneducated nitwit, leave political discussion and rhetoric to the adults in the room.

Reagan was an overrated president and is the cause of the problems with Iran. Obama was faced with many challenges when he took office, I think he has done well. I know you black right wingers are suffering from Stockholm syndrome and should seek help with your lies. Jindal was a poor Governor and this is my state. Finally, what would be an alternative plan in iran.

You have too be living in some alternate universe. The golfer-in-chief has done nothing but humiliate this country and drag us down to third world status. Stealing more from those to earn and giving it to those who refuse to get an education and work for a living, destroying healthcare, putting radicals and muslims in cabinet level posts… Just a complete and utter disaster.

Your first line belies your liberal agenda. Even democratic historians agree President Reagan was a president that not only led the free world to victory during the Cold War, but led the United Sates into a decade of prosperity and peace not seen since WWII. I would hardly characterize those great achievements as “overrated.” Perhaps President Carter was your man, but don’t denigrate President Reagan, by anyone’s standard he was a great leader. As far as an alternative plan in Iran, if we had kept our sanctions in place coupled with showing leadership to the European countries threatening to drop… Read more »
