After a series of tests designed to replicate the worst of in-the-field conditions, the Leupold VX-3 4.5-14x40mm riflescope came out on top. Put up against its competitors in the October 2015 issue, the Leupold VX-3 Scopes was deemed the superior optic by writer Richard Mann for its resolution, quality and available options.
“While we’ve always known the VX-3 to be America’s favorite riflescope, we’re honored to have Field & Stream come to the same conclusion,” said Shane Meisel, trade marketing manager for Leupold & Stevens, Inc. “Tough, lightweight and the ability to build the perfect riflescope for your needs makes the VX-3 the perfect choice.”
Field & Stream put “tactical” hunting scopes through a series of tests to see which riflescope was truly the best. Mann selected a VX-3 with the TS32-X1 reticle and a set of matching Custom Dial System (CDS) dials.
Riflescopes were evaluated for resolution, color rendition and brightness by use of a test chart set in dark timber at 100 yards. A live-fire test verified the accuracy of the VX-3’s precise precision adjustments and repeatability. Durability was proven after a mile-long, back country ride in the back of an UTV. Riflescopes were then put in a 105-degree hot tub, dunked in 55-degree water and then frozen for three hours. Leupold’s ruggedness and durable design came through with flying colors.
