Washington DC – -(Ammoland.com)- Eight days after a gunman opened fire in Roseburg, Oregon, with weapons acquired through a background check, President Obama is weighing the option of using an executive order to circumvent Congress and make background checks a requirement for certain private sellers.

According to The Hill, a White House official has confirmed that the executive order would set a threshold as to the number of guns one can sell each year and still be considered a private seller. Selling any number of guns above that threshold would require that the seller to obtain a Federal Firearms License from the government and perform NICS background checks on every purchaser.

NBC News reports that Obama plans to do this by reworking language in selling guidelines to redefine “who is legally defined as a licensed gun dealer and therefore required to conduct background checks on potential buyers.”

NBC News quotes anonymous sources saying the Obama administration is currently weighing “50 or 100 guns a year as the threshold to trigger these requirements, although they have not formally settled on a number.”

There are numerous problems with this executive push, not the least of which is the way it sets up future administrations to lower the threshold for background checks to 40, 30, or even 10 gun sales a year. Moreover, it sets up an immediate dilemma—namely, how will the government know how many guns a private seller is selling? In order to know that number, the government will have to have some type of record of guns owned or guns for sale, either of which increases the paper trail on guns possessed by law-abiding citizens.

A third overarching problem with Obama’s executive order is the fact that the Second Amendment protects natural rights relating to gun ownership and self-defense. Neither of which are supposed to be infringed with government regulation. Yet stringent regulation is exactly what Obama seeks.

True story of a letter I sent to FBI/NICS and GOA on Nov 23. The authority and jurisdiction the FBI,White House and Federal government currently has now as well as when they, the PA State Police,Big Pharma and Neurontin/Park Davis or whoever else now also who owns them is illegitimate and has proven errors, fraud and secret court always to their advantage all over my record/s. I want you to know I’m sound and sober. I’m no Mason nor am I practicing Freemasonry. However even according to the Masons own code of conduct they are prohibited from doing any wrong or evil… Read more »

Somehow, we the people, through our Congress or whatever means necessary, need to stop any more of Obama’s EXECUTIVE ORDERS on anything. This is a tactic that is being overused to a sickening degree. If all this pathetic President needs to do is make Executive Orders every time he wants to do something, we don’t need to have Congress because they are useless. They don’t try to stop him. They get medical care for life unlike anything we get. They get huge salaries and pensions and don’t do anything anymore. We need to tell Congress to do their jobs, stop Executive… Read more »

If Obunghole does this you can bet the threshold will one (1) gun per year, if it doesn’t start out a one, it will be there within a year.

Obama’s supporters want him to “Do Something!” about gun violence and mass shootings. Putting another restriction on law-abiding gun sellers will have no effect on any crime at all, but that’s OK with Obama’s supporters, because it is doing “Something”. When someone goes through life feeling, instead of thinking, then this kind of feel-good, do-nothing reaction makes perfect sense.

Commerce Clause gives Congress the power . Not King Obama. They don’t enforce existing laws , they let criminals out early , give criminals too many luxuries.
The Obama admin has released terrorists , sold stinger missiles to Qatar that ended up in Taliban hands – Hillary Clintons Libyan arms deal . They sold Iraq m1a1 tanks and Humvees and now after Mosul fell because the Pentagon told them to withdraw 30000 troops when 1000 DAESH were attacking. So millions of dollars in military hardware in DAESH’s hands. Our hardware being used against our troops.

You started out fine and then got bogged down in international affairs that has nothing to do with the issue at hand. Focus, amigo.
