USA –  -(Ammoland.com)- Sturm, Ruger & Co., Inc. (NYSE: RGR) is excited to introduce the Ruger Silent-SR , a .22 LR sound suppressor. Ruger’s first suppressor features best-in-class materials and an advanced design, resulting in a lightweight, compact size and top-tier sound reduction.

The Silent-SR is perfect for any threaded-barrel rimfire host, either pistol or rifle. At only 5-3/8″ long and weighing just over 6 ounces, the Silent-SR’s combination of a titanium tube, stainless steel muzzle mount, stainless steel baffles and aluminum rear cap maximize strength and durability while minimizing weight. The compact 1-1/16″ diameter tube allows the use of most standard iron sights. The black Cerakote™ finish is attractive and durable.

“We build the most popular rimfire silencer hosts in the United States”, noted Ruger CEO Michael Fifer. “The Ruger 10/22 rifle and the SR22 and 22/45 pistols have long been the go-to platforms for rimfire silencers. Now our customers have a rimfire sound suppressor from the name they trust most in rimfire firearms – Ruger,” he concluded.

Effective sound signature reduction in the Ruger Silent-SR was achieved through advanced fluid dynamic modeling. The five primary baffles feature patent-pending pushed-cone geometry to create effective cross-jetting within the suppressor, slowing and cooling the gasses, ultimately reducing the sound pressure level at the muzzle by up to 40 dB. First round pop – when the first round fired is noticeably louder than subsequent shots – is minimized due to the Silent-SR’s optimally-sized blast chamber. Accuracy is preserved by the symmetrical blast baffles.

Being easy to disassemble for cleaning was among the top design priorities. The 17-4 PH stainless steel baffles, investment cast in Ruger’s Pine Tree Castings foundry, are CNC machined to snap together. This prevents the fouling associated with rimfire ammunition from reaching the tube and endcaps. A non-marring disassembly tool is included and a patent-pending muzzle mount interlock prevents disassembly while removing the Silent-SR from the firearm.

The Silent-SR is well suited for use on threaded models of the Ruger 10/22 and Ruger American Rimfire® rifles as well as SR22, 22/45, Mark III™ and 22 Charger™ pistols. Utilizing an industry standard 1/2″-28 thread mount, the Silent-SR can be used on any threaded .22 LR, 22 WMR or 17 HMR caliber firearm.

Silencers preserve hearing, improve range safety by making verbal communication easier and can make shooting more fun. The Silent-SR is engineered and manufactured with rugged materials, providing rimfire shooters with a silencer that offers outstanding sound suppression, simple maintenance and legendary Ruger reliability.

In conjunction with the launch of the Silent-SR, starting January 15, 2016, Ruger will be auctioning off ten special models of the Silent-SR. One auction will start every 48 hours and last three days. All proceeds from the auctions will benefit the American Suppressor Association (ASA). These limited run Silent-SR suppressors feature a Stainless Cerakote finish and a unique serial number prefix (“ASA”) to commemorate Ruger’s first entry into the suppressor market. To make this limited run even more special, the winner of each auction will be allowed to select the next five characters (alpha or numeric) of the serial number for their Silent-SR. I found a price and it is looking like $499.00 msrp. So you can probably find them a little cheaper after looking around awhile.

Michael

Bought an SR-22 in May, traded it yesterday for the Threaded barrel version. Worth the difference.

You can get a new barrel from Twin Tech Tactical for $120, the barrel is easy to change out, even a monkey could do it.

At least my Republic is still a democratic state (at this time).

Collin: Any competent machine shop should be able to thread the muzzle of your existing 77/22 barrel to accept 1/2-28 suppressor. One problem easily solved!

Oldfart

Spending that kind of money on a silencer is for the dumb ass who cannot make one from what is lying around the house. Fist example small party ballon , just good for one shot but with sub sonic ammo you will not wake anyone up.
During 2 nd world war gi’s would put a rubber over the barrel to keep water out, the smart ones learned to leave an inch
Hanging past barrel to kill noise with first shot.

Scott

I don’t see how leaving an inch of condom hanging off the end od a Garand could “kill the noise of the first shot” from a 30-06. Sounds like the one where you shoot buckshot at the ground in front of a crowd and you’ll wipe everyone out.

@Colin Haley, you could always consider moving to a ‘free state’ here in the U.S. ! Best of luck my friend.

I live in the UK where pistols with normal barrels are banned and the only semi autos allowed are .22 but we are allowed sound moderators for hunting (mainly rabbits) and for health and safety reasons (protect your ears and help the neighbours). I really like the look of the new Ruger Suppressor although we probably cannot buy one over here. I recently tried to put a moderator on my new Ruger 77/22 but the thread was not cut correctly and unlike my very accurate 10/22 it was 18 inches off target at 25 yards. The replacement rifle was 3… Read more »

I exactly echo the comment of Jeff D., except that in my case it is The Peoples’ Socialist Republik of Kalifornia.

What a wonderful device! No mention as far as cost?? Ruger should donate money to a bill at the federal level that has been introduced as noise pollution, and rightfully so. I am one of the unfortunates that live in The People’s Republic Of Communist Taxachusetts where they like most common sense things are banned.

Jon Donlon

Jeff – by “Taxachusetts” I’m guessing that means you do use the services provided – I’m from the south where we don’t pay taxes and, of course, don’t have services. Just move, Jeff! Roads, bridges, schools – hightly overrated!

chuck

I guess I bought my sr-22 to soon, I have the non threaded barrel.
