USA –  -(Ammoland.com)- Somewhere, everyday in the USA, 2100+ people use a gun for self defense, to stop a crime or save the lives of themselves or their family.

“We believe that the American public deserve to understand that on the average, guns save 2,191 lives and are used to thwart crimes every day,” says Alan Gottlieb of the Second Amendment Foundation

Most times you won't see these tales on the news as it does not fit the main stream media's story line of “Guns and Gun Owners are Bad“.

This is just one of those stories;

Disabled 71-year-old Tony Pitts was watching TV in bed at home in Hickory, N.C. when he heard his sliding glass door shatter.

Pitts retrieved a .22-caliber pistol, went to investigate and saw a man coming through the broken door. Pitts responded to the threat by firing at the criminal, striking him twice.

The home invader was taken to a hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

Following the incident, Pitts told a reporter, “I didn't want to but had to… If I hadn't shot him, he might have shot me. I don't know.” A friend of Pitts was supportive, adding, “He did the right thing I would have done the same thing… These people are dangerous you know. Hate to shoot people like that, but these people make you shoot them.” (WSOC, Charlotte, N.C. 02/16/16)

If the person who was shot broke the glass in the door during a home invasion, why is all the broken glass on the outside of the mobile home?

If the man’s comfortable with the .22 then that is what he should use. Obviously the first two shots were all he needed and he probably had another 7 or 8 ready to go if needed.

Friends don’t let friends use a .22 caliber for self defense. Although, at least he had a gun handy. We need to support the 2nd amendment in all states!

I agree with you about 2nd Ammendment– however if the victim killed the bad guy, by using a larger caliber, the homeowner would be in an entirely different situation with the law—- just something to think about— I I carry a Taurus .410 judge

Good on him but he needs a bigger caliber

I am 73 and carry daily; that said I am the most accurate with my 1911-22 and the 22lr soft nose will penetrate a chest or a nose or a scrotum just fine at 7 yds. 10 rds avail and a pair of spare magazines handy for reload if the thug has friends. (I might add that I bought this gun because my right hand does not like the recoil or heavy trigger on my H&K 45C. For carry I use a S&W M&P 9c loaded with Hornady Self Defense, but it might not be as reaachable in a Home-Invasion.
