San Antonio, TX -(AmmoLand.com)- The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation (SSSF) congratulates Robert Gorman, coach of the Arlington Trappers Club in Arlington, Tennessee, for being one of 50 national winners to receive Positive Coaching Alliance’s prestigious Double-Goal Coach Award presented by TeamSnap.

The Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) and Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP) coach said he is honored and humbled that his team nominated him for the award.

“It means a lot to me that my team would consider me for this award,” Gorman said. “I consider it an honor, but I never thought I would win.”

Gorman was the only shooting team coach nominated for the award, which mostly goes to coaches of ball sports.

The award winners were chosen from a record 2,400 nominations from throughout the U.S. The Select national winners will join a panel discussion onstage at PCA’s National Youth Sports Awards Dinner and Auction, sponsored by Deloitte in Palo Alto, Cal. On April 16, 2016.

The PCA website states, “A Double-Goal Coach strives to win while also pursuing the more important goal of teaching life lessons through sports.”

Gorman said he got involved as a coach in 2010 when his son took interest in shooting.

“He played football for a year, but it wasn’t his thing,” Gorman said. “He enjoyed shooting and did very well at it. Shooting was something we could do and enjoy together.”

Gorman says he encourages the 21 members of his team to build a true team unit by getting to know each other away from the range.

“We encourage our squads to be a unit and work together. We encourage the members to spend time together even when they’re not shooting. They go to the movies and dinner and really take the time to get to know each other.”

Gorman said his ultimate goal is to help develop each team member’s character.

“I want to help these young kids be the best young men and women they can be,” Gorman said. “I want them to learn not only shooting skills and safety, but responsibility and other life lessons along the way. Participating in this club helps them build confidence in working with others. It makes them better and stronger people in the end.”

The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation, Inc. has been a partner with the Positive Coaching Alliance for several years by providing the Double Goal Coaches course to all new Scholastic Clay Target Program and Scholastic Action Shooting Program coaches.

The course equips shooting coaches with the information and tools to develop young athletes in a positive, caring fashion.

About SSSF:

The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation (SSSF) is responsible for all aspects of the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) and Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP) across the United States. SCTP and SASP are youth development programs in which adult coaches and other volunteers use shooting sports to teach and to demonstrate sportsmanship, responsibility, honesty, ethics, integrity, teamwork, and other positive life skills. SCTP was developed as a program of the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) until the SSSF was created in 2007 to operate the SCTP. In 2012, SSSF created the SASP and became the managing foundation of both programs.
