Winder, GA -(AmmoLand.com)-Â G2 Research announces a specialized new 7.62×39 mm AK/SKS round for hunting and self-defense use.
The G2 Research 7.62×39 Ripout Round is engineered to deliver serious penetration and produce a huge temporary and permanent wound even at the lowervelocities inherent of this round (about 2,270 fps).
G2’s 124-grain, pure premium copper bullet expands (or, more accurately, opens up) into three large petals (tridents) of razor-edged copper making a corkscrew-cutting chunk of hot, sharp metal about the diameter of a quarter; big by any account.
According to company spokesman Chris Nix, “The design construction keeps the bullet intact, creating excellent penetration and a massive wound channel, resulting in quick and humane big game kills in this loading. It’s very efficient as a bush country hunting round and it is also suppressor-friendly.”
Whether it’s the humble SKS the popular AK-47 or new model short-throw bolt-action rifles chambered in this popular caliber, if it’s low-recoil, accuracy and near-instant game killing performance one wants, the 7.62×39 Ripout Round is at the performance peak.
Specifications:
- Caliber: 7.62x39mm
- Velocity: 2,270 fps
- Bullet: Pure copper 124-grain, CNC machined specialized expansion Spitzer BT
- MSRP: $56.99 box of 20*

Why buy this stuff when you can buy Wolf HP by the thousands for .24 a round.
Non-reloadable, Berdan primed, but so what.
For Bob above–and for the 98 million U.S. gun owners who don’t reload and want a factory round for hunting and maybe for self defense-because if you ever have to defend your life with handloads your court case has just got much tougher because that gives special a “ammunition” argument to a prosecutor to show your intent to kill in the first place. Don’t know about this ammo but I do now about the law and hunting. If I owned a 7.62×39 I would have a box of this stuff for hunting and other home chores.
This just underscores the ridiculous prices ammo manufacturers try to foist off on us. I can buy 50 of (arguably) better, all copper, petal-producing expansion bullets for $35 bucks (~71 cents each) and reload old brass for a significant savings. I suspect most of us don’t want to invest almost 60 bucks for ammo so expensive we probably won’t shoot it. They’ll sit stuffed into a magazine for the long wait.
