Annapolis, MD -(AmmoLand.com)- Now that the 2016 Maryland legislative session is over, what is MSI up to and what do we have planned for the rest of 2016?

How about fund raiser challenges, public events, gun shows, the Kolbe lawsuit, working on the HQL lawsuit, dealers raising funds, the Handgun Permit Review Board, and working to get the current administration to removed some hurdles to obtaining a carry permit for personal protection?

We have a new Secretary that has promised to bug the President and the board to provide more frequent and regular updates to you, our members. The following are some details about what is going on, and how you can help! -Dan Blasberg, MSI President

1. HQL Lawsuit
2. Engage Fundraiser!
3. Head Shaving Challenge!
4. HPRB Member Status
5. Membership Cards

1. HQL Lawsuit:
As we get closer to the deadline for filing the HQL lawsuit, in addition to the financial support we have asked for, MSI is searching for plaintiffs for this case. While the HQL itself is an undue burden on all of us, there are many people on whom it creates an especially onerous burden. We need your help to find the perfect plaintiff(s). For a list of what we’d consider an ideal plaintiff click here!

2. Engage Fundraiser:
Engage Armament, an industry partner on Maryland Shooters, has recently announced their new line of E4 AR-15 rifles. As an added bonus, they are donating $100 from each purchase to MSI. Any proceeds we receive from Engage will go directly to our HQL lawsuit fund. This is a great way to support an excellent industry partner, receive a great quality AR-15 rifle at a great price, and help fund our HQL lawsuit! For more details, see the Maryland Shooters thread.

3. Head Shaving Challenge:
“The Hair”, otherwise known as Teratos (a former board member of MSI), has agreed to shave his head for the MSI Lawsuit. However, there is a catch. To do so, MSI must receive at least $1000.00 in donations to the HQL Lawsuit and you have until the end of today, April 13th to do it. For more details see the Maryland Shooters thread.

4. HPRB Member Status:
On Thursday April 7, the Maryland Senate held a floor vote to approve Governor Hogan’s recess appointments to the Handgun Permit Review Board. The Senate, after taking the 5 appointments out of the list to handle separately on Tuesday, delayed that vote until last Thursday. The Maryland Senate further separated the individual appointees and discussed each one before voting. Four of the five appointments were approved after lengthy discussion. Only Dick Juergen was not approved, by one vote. MSI feels that Governor Hogan could have side-stepped many of these HPRB issues, by issuing some directives to the Maryland State Police, but has failed to do so.

5. Membership Cards:
We have acquired a membership card printer, and will soon be issuing physical membership cards to our active members. We would like EVERYBODY to log onto our website and verify that their mailing address is correct on the Contact Info Tab. If you address isn’t up to date, we obviously will be unable to mail you your card. The card will serve as your proof of membership for entry into MSI meetings.

About Maryland Shall Issue:

Mission Statement: Maryland Shall Issue is an all volunteer, non-partisan effort dedicated to the preservation and advancement of all gunowners’ rights in Maryland, with a primary goal of CCW reform to allow all law-abiding citizens the right to carry a concealed weapon; and to the education of the community to the awareness that ‘shall issue’ laws have, in all cases, resulted in decreased rates of violent crime.
