Who Do You Trust With Your Carry Permit?

Roseville, CA -(AmmoLand.com)- Assembly member Eric Linder (R-Corona) is back at it again. Linder, who previously voted to strip away the rights of concealed carry permit holders to protect themselves by voting for SB 707, now wants you to trust him to “reform” your permit.

AB 2510 seeks to retroactively validate local carry permits by requiring the Department of Justice (DOJ) to ratify them.

Given that there are nearly 500 issuing authorities, if all of them were to make up their own permit, it would put concealed carry license holders and law enforcement in danger, not only in California–but in those states that honor our licenses as well.

As we have stated before, FPC is in full support of a uniform carry permit throughout California, but Linder’s bill will, in essence, force law enforcement to have a database of over 500 unique permit types.

If a law enforcement officer comes across you with a permit they don’t recognize or remember, we can guarantee they will err on the side of their safety, and NOT YOUR RIGHTS, when dealing with the situation… and we can’t blame them.

ASK LINDER TO FIX HIS BILL

Although we have raised this issue with the author before, he still refuses to answer our concerns. He needs to hear it from gun owners and law enforcement officers who will have to deal with the consequences of this dangerous bill.

The solution is simple; if the state wishes to update and modernize the licenses (photo, security features, size, material, color, etc…) then it should construct a uniform, statewide permit and not force DOJ to just ratify whatever the local issuing authority prints or produces.

We, and just about every gun owner in California, want a uniform system for concealed carry permits.

Unfortunately, AB 2510 moves us in the wrong direction. But with some simple amendments the bill can do a lot of good. Please ask Linder to #FixAB2510.

The Second Amendment is your ‘Carry Permit’.

Vanns40

Nice trite phrase. How about you go to New York City, open carry, and let me know how that explanation works out for you? Now, is there anything of real substance you’d like to contribute?

Janek

@Vanns40 – My point was the Second Amendment is the basis from which all American gun rights have evolved. Under the 2nd Amendment there may come a time to ‘open carry’ in defiance of the law. Now is there anything of “substance” you’d like to contribute besides criticism of my posting?

Vanns40

If you had, originally, fully explained your opinion as you just did I would not have criticized you in the first place. Open defiance of the law, or as it is more commonly known as civil disobedience, is, on a grand scale, a long way off. When we reach that point the country itself will be in dire straights. We’d better all hope that day never appears.

Just as a PS, our right to self defense and the means to exercise self defense does not come from the 2A. It is an inherent right granted to us as human beings. No Government or document can give that right or take it away.

Vanns40

I suppose it goes without saying that “permits” and “licenses” serve no function except as a money making scheme and to make the law abiding jump through hoops in order to exercise an inherent right. As with all gun laws they should be repealed.

Agreed! Just taxation.

Pretty well in agreement, but then again I’d just as soon pay a small (relatively speaking) permit fee every few years than for the various levels of ‘government’ figuring out a bunch of other ways to raise/assess taxes. One major flaw in the congress critters ‘reasoning’ regarding having one format for the permit is exemplified by LEOSA. Not sure how many actual LE agencies there in kaly but I can guess that it is at least as many as the 500 issuing agencies for concealed carry permits. Any you can bet the family farm that each and everyone of them… Read more »
