Washington DC – -( On May 3 2016 Georgia Governor Nathan Deal (R) took the action Everytown for Gun Safety had urged by vetoing campus carry legislation that had been on his desk for over a month.

The legislation–HB 859–was passed by the Georgia House on February 22 2016. On February 26, Deal took front and center in defending the bill, even suggesting that those who opposed it were using old arguments that had proven vacuous after other concealed carry expansions.

On March 11 the Senate concurred with Deal and passed the bill. But once it reached Deal’s desk he grew quiet.

Yet the anti-gun crowd was not quiet. Breitbart News reported that Michael Bloomberg-funded Everytown for Gun Safety launched an ad campaign against campus carry on March 7 and on April 25 REM frontman Michael Stipe begged Deal to keep law-abiding students disarmed.

In the end, Deal sided with Everytown and Stipe. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Deal vetoed HB 859 on Tuesday.

    1. They should probably run the bill through again, since the governor is the only one against it. Bloomberg is just a piece of crap sticking his nose where it doesn’t belong! Frustrated cause no one wants him, so he needs to be the center of attention. Tennessee has the right path in mind, at least it’s a start.

    2. TN at least passed theirs, but its for teachers and faculty only. Still cannot believe 9 republicans sided with the gungrabbers to scuttle the constitutional carry bill in TN

    3. Well allrighty then. Hos about every person on campus harmed by criminals activity SUE the Governor because HE HAD THE POSSIBILITY of PREVENTING it.
      Fing appeasing idiot.

It is all about the money.

    4. Sounds like Gov. Deal pulled the ol’ switcher-roo on the good people of Georgia. Probably got a hefty donation to his favorite “charity” from Bloomberg in return for vetoing a bill that he had adamantly defended. Politicians are liars and crooks…everyone of them!

    5. Clear as mud. Can anyone tell us if concealed carry is or is not lawful on a campus? Thank you.
