The Donald & The La Raza Judge

USA –  -(Ammoland.com)- Before the lynching of The Donald proceeds, what exactly was it he said about that Hispanic judge?

Stated succinctly, Donald Trump said U.S. District Judge Gonzalo Curiel, who is presiding over a class-action suit against Trump University, is sticking it to him. And the judge's bias is likely rooted in the fact that he is of Mexican descent.

Can there be any defense of a statement so horrific?

Just this. First, Trump has a perfect right to be angry about the judge's rulings and to question his motives. Second, there are grounds for believing Trump is right.

On May 27 2016, Curiel, at the request of The Washington Post, made public plaintiff accusations against Trump University — that the whole thing was a scam. The Post, which Bob Woodward tells us has 20 reporters digging for dirt in Trump's past, had a field day.

And who is Curiel?

An appointee of President Obama, he has for years been associated with the La Raza Lawyers Association of San Diego, which supports pro-illegal immigrant organizations.

Set aside the folly of letting Clinton surrogates like the Post distract him from the message he should be delivering, what did Trump do to be smeared by a bipartisan media mob as a “racist“?

He attacked the independence of the judiciary, we are told.

But Presidents Jefferson and Jackson attacked the Supreme Court, and FDR, fed up with New Deal programs being struck down, tried to “pack the court” by raising the number of justices to 15 if necessary.

Abraham Lincoln leveled “that eminent tribunal” in his first inaugural, and once considered arresting Chief Justice Roger Taney.

The conservative movement was propelled by attacks on the Warren Court. In the '50s and '60s, “Impeach Earl Warren!” was plastered on billboards and bumper stickers all across God's country.

The judiciary is independent, but that does not mean that federal judges are exempt from the same robust criticism as presidents or members of Congress.

Obama himself attacked the Citizens United decision in a State of the Union address, with the justices sitting right in front of him.

But Trump's real hanging offense was that he brought up the judge's ancestry, as the son of Mexican immigrants, implying that he was something of a judicial version of Univision's Jorge Ramos.

Apparently, it is now not only politically incorrect, but, in Newt Gingrich's term, “inexcusable,” to bring up the religious, racial or ethnic background of a judge, or suggest this might influence his actions on the bench.

But these things matter.

Does Newt think that when LBJ appointed Thurgood Marshall, ex-head of the NAACP, to the Supreme Court, he did not think Marshall would bring his unique experience as a black man and civil rights leader to the bench?

Surely, that was among the reasons Marshall was appointed.

When Obama named Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court, a woman of Puerto Rican descent who went through college on affirmative action scholarships, did Obama think this would not influence her decision when it came to whether or not to abolish affirmative action?

“I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life,” Sotomayor said in a speech at Berkeley law school and in other forums.

Translation: Ethnicity matters, and my Latina background helps guide my decisions.

All of us are products of our family, faith, race and ethnic group. And the suggestion in these attacks on Trump that judges and justices always rise about such irrelevant considerations, and decide solely on the merits, is naive nonsense.

There are reasons why defense lawyers seek “changes of venue” and avoid the courtrooms of “hanging judges.”

When Obama reflexively called Sgt. Crowley “stupid” after Crowley's 2009 encounter with that black professor at Harvard, and said of Trayvon Martin, “If I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon,” was he not speaking as an African-American, as well as a president?

Pressed by John Dickerson on CBS, Trump said it's “possible” a Muslim judge might be biased against him as well.

Another “inexcusable” outrage.

But does anyone think that if Obama appointed a Muslim to the Supreme Court, the LGBT community would not be demanding of all Democratic Senators that they receive assurances that the Muslim judge's religious views on homosexuality would never affect his court decisions, before they voted to put him on the bench?

When Richard Nixon appointed Judge Clement Haynsworth to the Supreme Court, it was partly because he was a distinguished jurist of South Carolina ancestry. And the Democrats who tore Haynsworth to pieces did so because they feared he would not repudiate his Southern heritage and any and all ideas and beliefs associated with it.

To many liberals, all white Southern males are citizens under eternal suspicion of being racists. The most depressing thing about this episode is to see Republicans rushing to stomp on Trump, to show the left how well they have mastered their liberal catechism.

It’s complete “naive nonsense” to think all judges are fair and impartial.

“You old white people. It is your duty to die.” HISPANIC LEADERS OF LA RAZA SPEAK OUT. Augustin Cebada, Brown Berets; “Go back to Boston! Go back to Plymouth Rock, Pilgrims! Get out! We are the future. You are old and tired. Go on. We have beaten you. Leave like beaten rats. You old white people. It is your duty to die … they should die; they have a duty to die. NOT only that, BUT the judge’s parents are ILLEGAL ALIENS and he is an ANCHOR BABY.
He should have RECUSED HIMSELF from the trial based on his association with a RACSIT organization and the fact that Trump wants to build a wall. The Morons trashing Trump should go stick their heads in a toilet and flush three times.

Trump erred by call the judge a Mexican. He should have referred to him as a supporter of La Raza. Then, he should explain what La Raza is all about. Inform people of the facts and let them decide. Don’t spout opinions that can be rejected. Trump should say, “Let me tell you about Judge Curiel. He is a member of La Raza. La Raza is Spanish for The Race. Judge Curiel affiliates with an organization that promotes racist ideas without apology. La Raza wants unfettered immigration from Mexico. They claim California and the southwest for Mexico even though Mexico… Read more »

Yaba! As my wife has said to me many times, after I have upset her or one of the kids or grand kids, “It’s not what you say, but how you say it.” Unfortunately, no mater how I try to alter my delivery, it never seems to work out.

Hopefully Trump can do a bit better in the delivery department and take better aim than mostly shooting from the hip, which seem to be his major failing. One step forward, two steps back, giving his opponents purchase to spin his statements against him.

Brother I, the other half, the unspoken, but implied in Spanish half, of the phrase is LA RAZA is the race of humans, and if you are not hispanic, then you are not among the race of humans. I have met them in court, and I know them well. And I concur with all of the rest, residue, and remainder of your assessment!
As to this and other judges, we, the people need the civil Right of recall to get guys like that off the bench.

“MEXICAN” is not indicative of “RACE” any more than “AMERICAN” .
Trump’s referring to the judge’s being of “MEXICAN” heritage is not “RACIST”.
The judge’s affiliation with “La Raza” is no less “racist” than the Democrat’s affiliation with the KKK.
“La Raza”, by virtue of it’s name, ( THE RACE”) is “RACIST”.
The recent events in San Diego and San Jose were sanctioned by “La Raza”, according to the police chief in San Diego.
The police chief of San Jose is still denying the connection, however eventually the facts will out.

Is my information wrong? Trump needs to ask the judge to recuse himself. Has he done that?
I think that one so inclined to sue anybody would have a competent attorney to handle this. No he wants headlines and drama. He acts like a 13 year old girl.

Any judge can recuse themselves if there is even the smallest appearance of impropriety. Neither side has to make a motion. I can’t think of a better way to really make the judge into your enemy, at trial, if you make such a motion because it implies that there is something wrong and that the judge should have recused himself before your motion. Many lawyers are loath to make such a motion. This judge should not even be on the bench belonging to such a raciest organization. Every lawyer that comes to the bar, every plaintiff, prosecutor, and defendant are… Read more »

Gee whiz Fred, can’t Ca remain a state that is one of the United States? Cause if not, I know how to normalize it in about three days. When I lived out in SoCAL, the Spanish speaking radio stations promoted a kind of general strike called “A Day Without an Alien” wherein all the workers of Spanish descent were to stay home from work, call in sick etc. for the purpose of showing those nasty white people how much they need the immigrant workers. A great many hispanics did stay home. It totally backfired. On that “Without an Alien”, the… Read more »

@Wild Bill: Interesting you bring that up. I lived in Los Angeles for two decades. Even had an hispanic girlfriend at one time. So I am familiar with the mindset. As a matter of fact, she was very eager to have me watch a movie, which was also entitled “A Day Without an Alien” or something to the same effect. The premise was absurd. Illegals disappeared and whites were helpless slugs. Haven’t thought about that in years. And you are correct about the drop in crime during the strike. I remember that too. And so much more.

Trump is a rascist, pure and simple. The Judge is an AMERICAN; he took on the drug cartels at the risk of his and his family’s lives. There is a process to recuse a judge who a party feels is biased. Why haven’t Donald’s lawyers filed a Motion to Recuse, which is what a normal party would do? In Texas, our then Attorney General (who lead the effort to successfully repeal a number of trial lawyer/plaintiff laws that hurt all businesses) and now Governor Greg Abbott, ran Trump University out of our state because it was a sham and violated… Read more »

Is Trump a racist or are you projecting on him. You had better hope you never have to go to court and watch a judge rule on thinks you know are wrong! Then we’ll call you a racist. Careful where you throw shit, it just might spatter back on you.

Well, John,…… Your response the this article leaves me wondering if you bothered to read the detail of it all. You believe that Trump is a racist? Aren’t you jumping to a conclusion based upon nothing but the Media Hype of the moment? I can be wrong here. Perhaps you’ve spent a lot of time around Trump. or you are personally acquainted with someone who has, and Trump has been heard to repeatedly make hateful racist remarks? I’m guessing that neither of those things are true. So, let’s see what we actually know. We know that the Major Media has… Read more »

Statements like Trump’s are acceptable or not depending on whether they come from the ‘Left’ or the ‘Right’. The political vetting process is being stifled by the hypocrisy of the ‘Left’.

Trump said nothing wrong at all ! What the hell is wrong with calling a Mexican a Mexican ? That Mexican judge does need to recuse himself from this case. Trumps poll numbers will skyrocket because he says things most people want to but don’t !
