SAINT PAUL, MINN. –-(Ammoland.com)- The Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus & Political Action Committee released the following statement today after the tragic death of Philando Castile during a traffic stop in Falcon Heights.

“While many facts remain unknown at this time, the video of the aftermath of the shooting of Philando Castile offers a heartbreaking view into a narrative that has occurred all too often across our state, “ said Bryan Strawser, Executive Director, MN Gun Owners Caucus.

“We believe strongly that all citizens deserve equal protection under the law. In this case, as in others, citizens should expect and receive full transparency and accountability from law enforcement agencies that serve our local communities. We fully support the independent investigation being conducted by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) and join with Governor Dayton in asking for an independent federal investigation into this incident.”

“This tragedy may also offer an opportunity to take a hard look at police training and protocols related to interactions with armed citizens who are legally carrying a firearm.

Despite their portrayal by some, law-abiding permit holders are statistically among the safest populations in our state. With more than 221,000 Minnesotans holding a Permit to Carry, nearly 1 out of every 25 citizens encountered by police may legally be carrying a firearm.”

“As the investigation proceeds and the facts become clearer, the Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus offers to work with any law enforcement agency that wishes to review their protocols and training for interactions with legally armed citizens.”

Joe dino says: However, your statement, “Ramsey County Sheriff said that this subject had never even applied for a concealed carry permit far less held one” shows you are nothing more than a race baiter and a fraud.

How is his repeating of what the sheriff said race baiting or fraud…. then you go on to say “he MAY of had one from mars” and somehow in your mind that’s a Fact…lol not hardly….

Yappity, yappity, yappity … ANY infringement …

Give government an inch and they’ll take a mile …

These ‘great-sounding’ (did I get enough contempt in that?) organizations do NOTHING but rubber-stamp any and all actual impositions of INFRINGEMENT or we wouldn’t be buried under some 20,000 gun ‘laws’ across the Nation. All totally UNConstitutional …

You’re obviously a smart man and I’m fairly certain you achieved your level of education by being diligent in your studies. However, your statement, “Ramsey County Sheriff said that this subject had never even applied for a concealed carry permit far less held one” shows you are nothing more than a race baiter and a fraud. Did you ever consider that the subject may have had an out of state CCL – I think not – or a permit from another MN county – I think not? As a previous resident of Maryland he may have had a CCL, however,… Read more »

Careful – several sites are reporting that the guy was an active member of the Crips with a significant record. The female was not his girl friend or wife and only started filming after the actual confrontation. At lease one report stated that everything she said was a lie.

Ramsey County Sheriff said that this subject had never even applied for a concealed carry permit far less held one. Black lies matter.

So then we come to the issue of the legality of even requiring the Mother May I Card as a precondition to possession of a handgun in public. Perhaps he had a Mother May I Card from another jurisdiction, recently moved, and had not performed the requisite paperwork to shift the registration?
Bottom line, he came clean about his possession of the handgun straightaway. Why is anyone making an issue of whether he had that Mother May I Card in his pocket? Was he a Prohibited Person? Doesn’t seem so.

However, your statement, “Ramsey County Sheriff said that this subject had never even applied for a concealed carry permit far less held one” shows you are woefully uninformed . Did you ever consider that the subject may have had an out of state CCL, or a permit from another MN county? As a previous resident of Maryland he may have had a CCL, however, MN does not recognize Maryland CCL which being armed may have been illegal to carry… Read more »

Furthermore, the statement that they were pulled over for a burned out taillight was another lie. They were pulled over because Castillo was a dead ringer (pun intended) for one of the two armed robbery suspects that recently robbed a convenience store in the area where they were stopped. It was a BOLO stop, not a taillight! Another site claims that Castillo was a Crips gang member, and a screen grab from the video seems to show the butt of the pistol on his lap. I was immediately very skeptical of the woman’s story, and sadly, my assumptions proved to… Read more »

I though that the first lie by the police (there will be many more, it would now seem) that the legal carrier “died at the hospital” was very precious. He was obviously dead in the car and they lied their asses off about it. They KNEW he was dead and lied about it. They also know that the officer killed an innocent man and will now let him off without charges because you see they need men like this, men and women who will respond to their training and mindlessly kill, instead of control themselves and situations and confidently do… Read more »

AND YOU KNOW all this because ????? YOu were there? You checked his pulse to see if he was dead? You are an EXPERT EM and/or Doctor? You “know” how the officer felt? OR Could it be that YOU are just an ignorant moron spewing a load of hate and stupidity? TURNS OUT: 1. The guy was a FELON 2. He HAD NO CCW PERMIT 3. He and his “girl friend” matched the description of an ARMED robber from the day before His gun was NOT in a holster but located under his RIGHT thigh where he was reaching “supposedly”… Read more »

Well, this is a very concerning “situation” to say the least. The stigma of the big, bad, dangerous gun in society and thanks to the media for pumping this trash into peoples minds…How have things gotten so utterly out of control in this once great nation? ?
