Harrisburg, Pa. (Ammoland.com)IWI US, Inc., a subsidiary of Israel Weapon Industries (IWI) Ltd., is pleased to announce that the new Galil ACE Rifle  in 7.62 NATO (7.62x51mm/.308 Win) is now shipping to distributors everywhere.

“The 7.62 NATO (7.62x51mm/.308 Win) is an extremely accurate cartridge with a lot of knock-down power and penetration. It’s a fantastic round for everything from big game hunting to long-distance shooting. It’s a cartridge that is worthy of the Galil ACE and we know gun enthusiasts everywhere are going to be excited to get their hands on this just in time for hunting season,” said Michael Kassnar, vice president of sales and marketing for IWI US.

Many improvements have been made since the original Galil was first developed. Weight has been reduced due to the use of high-impact polymers.

Reliability of the IWI US Galil ACE Rifle in .308 has been improved by sealing the internal mechanism with a reciprocating charging handle cover, adding additional protection from sand and dirt.

A full-length 2-piece Picatinny top rail has been added and a tri-rail has found its way under the plastic foregrip. Plus, slide on/slide off rail covers with pressure switch access have been incorporated. The Galil now has a folding adjustable stock with a 2-position removable cheek comb. The charging handle was moved to the left side of the receiver and the magazine release was made ambidextrous so that a shooter could change magazines without having to take the gun off target.

The Galil ACE geometry was modified so that it could accept standard SR25 style PMAG®s. It features a trigger borrowed from the Galil sniper rifle and an improved gas tube that decreases barrel vibration and increases accuracy. The barrel is chrome lined and cold hammer forged.

I just got my 308 galil Ace ..Unfortunately, The bolt on the last round gets caught on the magazine follower this makes empty magazine difficult to pull out bolt damaging the follower.

Unfortunately IWI ? perhaps it would not mattered if the elections came out differently.

With that hand guard how are you supposed to mount a bipod or monopod, or a light?

I would rather have something made out of aluminum with Picatinny rails or a keymod / mlok system

I’m usually a big IWI fan, but not on this one. I’m a lefty so by moving the charging handle to the left side news flash; I cannot stay on target and clear the weapon if I need to clear it. Further, the 16 inch barrel for a .308 is just simply too short: 18 inches is a minimum and I would prefer 20 inches. I would also point out that $2,100 is going to be a very hard sell for those of us who can go to USA made AR-10 in the $1300 to $1,800 range. Putting it mildly,… Read more »

Can you stay on target while clearing the weapon with an $1,800 AR-10?

16 inches is plenty. This rifle is meant to compete with things like the scar 17… which in United States military use is standard with a 13 inch barrel not even close to being too short. Increasing barrel length would only make the gun too long and awkward.

I wonder if an 18-20 inch barrel is in the works? 16-18 is a good choice for the 7.62×39(or many other intermediate calibers for that matter),but one can hope.
Looks like a well thought out and interesting variant. If the street price is a bit less spend,I would love to acquire one or three.
