AstroTurf Harassment Campaign against Gun Owner Rights a FACT

By David Codrea

Gun-grabbers hope to do a lot of damage with a handful of useful idiots and cases full of Monopoly of Violence Lobby cash to fund harassing nuisance lawsuits. (The New York Times Facebook post)

USA – -( “A Pro Bono Dream Team Takes on the N.R.A.,” the editorial board of The New York Times positively gushes in anticipatory glee. “The coalition, called the Firearms Accountability Counsel Task Force, plans to devote tens of millions of dollars in free legal services to this work … The coalition’s cooperating lawyers are already drafting lawsuits, which could be announced as soon as next month.”

And the “glaring flaws in gun safety” FACT will be going after?  They evidently want the taxpayers to foot the bill for Democrat apparatchiks “to advocate or promote gun control” after Congress took funding away from their unmasked propaganda designed to render guns “dirty, deadly and banned.” They’ll “also seek ways to challenge state lawmakers who have invited millions of citizens to pack guns in public buildings and businesses,” go after “a crazy quilt of state and national gun laws … drawing upon public safety, antitrust and property laws,” and seek ways around the Protection in Lawful Commerce in Arms Act.

In other words, these officers of the court are themselves going to collude in “highly coordinated” efforts to undermine the right of the people to keep and bear arms. But they do have one point—there should be no “crazy quilt.” It all ought to fall under “the supreme Law of the Land,” that is, under “shall not be infringed.”

Unsurprisingly, The Times is silent on the relatively few string-pullers behind FACT, admitting only to the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence. Mark Kelly’s and Gabby Gifford’s “Americans for Responsible Solutions” is one of the other main players, along with the Brady Campaign and the (George Soros-funded) Brennan Center for Justice.

“The law firms have committed hundreds of lawyers, thousands of hours, and millions of dollars to this effort, which will operate in tight coordination with ARS and the Law Center’s team of gun law experts,” they claim. Meaning they intend to make existence expensive for us.

What this is, obviously, is a lashing out at the results of the November elections, and an attempt by the monopoly of violence lobby to gain in “friendly” jurisdictions what was denied them at the polls. It is further an attempt to worry and harass in a “thousand cuts” strategy, hoping to drain reserves and even “win” through selecting targets that will be hard-pressed or not inclined to fight back.

What it illustrates more than anything is how critical the election was in terms of who will now be nominated for federal court openings, and particularly for the Supreme Court.  Had Hillary won, it would be “game over,” at least as far as “legal” recourse.

What will be needed is for the right people to be put on federal benches to slap the lawsuits down before they advance too far, and then to make the offending parties start feeling some of that pain they’ve been trying to cause, through court costs, through sanctions for frivolous filings, and though countersuits if they continue to harass.

Can I ask what Astroturf has to do with this?

Then thess lawyers and groups will not mind when the pro gun groups find out who all is involved, publish any associated websites/emails/social media accounts/etc, and maybe bombard their offices with phone calls and emails? If they want to find loopholes to try and make things personal by attacking our rights, we have legal options as well. I just hope that they can handle a constant stream of emails, calls, and social media posts that are extremely critical. I would not want it to impact their usual day to day operations, and limit what they can do besides take calls… Read more »

Mr. Ree

What are the names of the law firms? Why do none of the articles about this name names?

The ny times did not release them on purpose. They know there is going go be an enormous reaction. Codrea can’t publish info he does not have.

Wild Bill

As for me, I have increased my membership to patron. I will make extra donations to the NRA so they have what they need to fight back with. Mr. C, would it help to make extra donations to GOA, CCKBA, etc or just the NRA?

Wild Bill

@ oldv, I can not agree more! We have to push for repeal of the NFA and GCA while Trump and the Senate owe us. If we wait, they will forget us. Then the Trump election will be the high water mark of Second Amendment Civil Rights. No uninfringed Second Amendment, no Second Term!

Unfortunately I have no recourse at a federal level except to hope other states get the job done as both of my senators are dems. The NRA and state Republican party left us high and dry this year by not massively promoting and standing behind Vance in his attempt to oust Patty Murray (24 year senator just elected to her next term). Neither of these organizations thought it was a winable fight, so they left Vance with a crippled war chest of less than $100,000 to go against Murray’s millions… can’t win an election if you don’t spend money. I… Read more »

bunch of @ holes . spend the money on something use full . I hear the homeless vets can use a hand .

Bob Shell

This is what happens when useless people have too much time on their hands. They spend their time & our money taking away our rights. back in the day people had to work for a living & did not have the time to infringe on other peoples rights. OH for the old days

Jim S

Gun owners have to stop being complacent and stop demanding their 2A rights. You have to do something to keep them. I know thats not fair but we have to unite to push back this scourge. I believe part of the lost battle in California and New York has been the appointment of many liberal justices to the various courts. If we can get these courts rebalanced then CA and NY will stop passing these dumb azz laws. But until that happens we have to use our economic power to show other people we can affect their livelihood and at… Read more »

I noted a sign in the photo accompanying this article, “30,000 lives lost to gun violence each year”. This is a canard perpetrated by the left. Some 2/3 of annual gun deaths are by suicide; this should not be considered “gun violence” but simply a matter of “personal choice”.

Richard L

Why not… Planned Babykillers is touted as a “Personal Choice” !!

The FBI says that 9,000 were killed by guns and 4,000 by hands and feet, blunt object and edged object. 20,000 suicides with guns, poison, drugs hanging, jumping off high places, suicide by auto and by cop. Japans citizens can’t own guns at all and have 30,000 suicides a year.

It would be very interesting to see thousands of gun owners around the country sue these law firms and the attorneys in as many jurisdictions as possible for being involved in a conspiracy to infringe on their constitutional right. Let those firms go all over the country putting out their own fires,

18 U.S.C. § 241 : US Code – Section 241: Conspiracy against rights If two or more persons conspire to injure, oppress, threaten, or intimidate any person in any State, Territory, Commonwealth, Possession, or District in the free exercise or enjoyment of any right or privilege secured to him by the Constitution or laws of the United States, or because of his having so exercised the same; or If two or more persons go in disguise on the highway, or on the premises of another, with intent to prevent or hinder his free exercise or enjoyment of any right or… Read more »

It is time these “gun control freaks” get a reeducation term in the “fema” camps. This is why they were constructed. I believe the THOUSANDS of plastic coffins, that fit four(4) bodies, might be used for

wait till they find out their Messiah caused more gun ownership among women, minorities and
people who never wanted a gun before and that they won’t give them up so easily, when they
could vote for better politicians and the Constitution.

Gun sellers are fearing the future with President Trump and thought of gun owners feeling safe enough with the guns they already have.

Clark Kent

You have it bass ackwards, Gil. HiLIARy made gun sellers fearful of the future as they were (rightly) sure their products would no longer be legally sold.

RM Molon Labe

Says the IDIOT…

Hitlery even said that she was going to go after the guns and take them any way she could, why do you think that bambz boy is pushing this un backed arms trade treaty (att) because bamba boy wants the guns gone to make it safer for the mazlamz when they try to take over the country.

I don’t remember the part where Hillary won the Presidency.

GIL.. you’ve lost your rock agai. Go find it and crawl back under it before you PROVE yourself a fool.
