USA -( My name is Steve Gage, president of the Indiana NWTF State Chapter. I am writing to graciously request your vote for my candidacy to the National Board of Directors. Below is a little information about me and why I am running.

I have been a member of the NWTF for more than 20 years and served as a local president and banquet chairman.

In addition, I have been on the Indiana state board of directors for 15 years and served as the State President for the past 10 years.

During my tenure in office, we have:

  • Increased Indiana’s operating budget and revenue by 62.5 percent
  • Developed a single-entry budget, tracking and multiple-accounting system
  • Authored and distributed the America’s Crossroads Memorandum of Understanding.

Indiana was one of the first states to implement operational strategic planning. We also worked directly with the NWTF headquarters to revise bylaws for states, implemented a written “Code of Ethics” for the state board, developed a State Board Handbook that includes job descriptions, board structure and reporting requirements, was one of the first 13 states to appoint a Save the Hunt coordinator and was the first state to appoint a Save the Habitat coordinator.

Professionally, I have over 36 years of community banking experience, presently serving as Community President for a Michigan-based institution. I have served as the president of the local County Chamber of Commerce for four years and on its board for 12 years; served as the president of the County Community Foundation for four years and on its board for 10 years; I was elected to the City Council and was an appointed member of the County Planning Commission.

Currently, I serve as the Chief Advancement Officer of my local church, where I have served as both the president of the Church Council and Deacons. I hold officer positions with many other service organizations.

I believe with my past and present leadership positions, my financial background and my devotion to the NWTF, I can be an effective voice for you as a National Board Member. The Great Lakes region, as well as the Upper Midwest and Northwest regions of the country, have no representation on the current board.

The Southeast has 11 representatives. I believe that if we are a national organization then we need to be nationally and geographically diversified.

In closing, I would once more graciously ask for your support and vote. However, even if you choose not to support my candidacy, I hope you will vote.

This is YOUR NWTF and your chance as a member to make a difference.

Yours in Conservation

Steve Gage

About the NWTF:

The NWTF is a nonprofit conservation organization that works daily to further its mission of conserving the wild turkey and preserving our hunting heritage. Through dynamic partnerships with state and federal wildlife agencies, the NWTF and its members have helped restore wild turkey populations across the country, improving more than 17 million acres of wildlife habitat and introducing 100,000 people to the outdoors each year. The NWTF was founded in 1973 and is headquartered in Edgefield, S.C. According to many state and federal agencies, the restoration of the wild turkey is arguably the greatest conservation success story in North America’s wildlife history.
