Israel First or America First

USA –  -(  Donald Trump has a new best friend.

“President-elect Trump, thank you for your warm friendship and your clear-cut support of Israel,” gushed Bibi Netanyahu, after he berated John Kerry in a fashion that would once have resulted in a rupture of diplomatic relations.

Netanyahu accused Kerry of “colluding” in and “orchestrating” an anti-Israel, stab-in-the-back resolution in the Security Council, then lying about it. He offered to provide evidence of Kerry's complicity and mendacity to President Trump.

Bibi then called in the U.S. ambassador and read him the riot act for 40 minutes. Israel's ambassador to the U.S. Ron Dermer charged that not only did the U.S. not “stand up to and oppose the gang-up” at the U.N., “the United States was actually behind that gang-up.”

When Ben Rhodes of the National Security Council called the charges false, Dermer dismissed President Obama's man as a “master of fiction.”

Query: Why is Dermer not on a plane back to Tel Aviv?

Some of us can recall how Eisenhower ordered David Ben-Gurion to get his army out of Sinai in 1957, or face sanctions.

Ben-Gurion did as told. Had he and his ambassador castigated Secretary of State John Foster Dulles, as the Israelis dissed John Kerry, Ike would have called the U.S. ambassador home.

Indeed, Ike's threat of sanctions against Prime Minister Anthony Eden's government, which had also invaded Egypt, brought Eden down.

But then Dwight Eisenhower was not Barack Obama, and the America of 1956 was a more self-respecting nation.

Still, this week of rancorous exchanges between two nations that endlessly express their love for each other certainly clears the air.

While Kerry has been denounced for abstaining on the U.N. resolution calling Israeli settlements on the West Bank and in East Jerusalem illegal and an impediment to peace, this has been U.S. policy for years.

And Kerry's warning in his Wednesday speech that at the end of this road of continuous settlement-building lies an Israel that is either a non-Jewish or a non-democratic state is scarcely anti-Semitic.

Prime Minister Ehud Barak, the most decorated soldier in Israel's history, has warned his countrymen, “As long as in this territory west of the Jordan River there is only one political entity called Israel, it is going to be either non-Jewish, or non-Democratic.”

“If the bloc of millions of Palestinians cannot vote” added Barak, “this will be an apartheid state.” Of John Kerry's speech, Barak said, “Powerful, lucid … World & majority in Israel think the same.”

Defense Secretary-designate Gen. James Mattis warned in 2013 that Israeli settlements were leading to an “apartheid” state.

After Joe Biden visited Israel in 2010, to learn that Netanyahu just approved 1,600 new units in East Jerusalem, Gen. David Petraeus warned: “Arab anger on the Palestine question limits the strength and depth of U.S. partnership with governments and people in the region.”

Yet facts and reality, however unpleasant, cannot be denied.

The two-state solution is almost surely dead. Netanyahu is not going to remove scores of thousands of Jewish settlers from Judea and Samaria to cede the land to a Palestinian state. After all, Bibi opposed Ariel Sharon's removal of 8,000 Jewish settlers from Gaza.

How will all this impact the new Trump administration?

Having tweeted, “Stay strong Israel, January 20th is fast approaching,” and having named a militant Zionist as his ambassador, Trump is certain to tilt U.S. policy heavily toward Israel.

Politically, this will bring rewards in the U.S. Jewish community.

Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Natanyahu
Bibi Netanyahu, his hawkish Cabinet, the Israeli lobby, the neocons and the congressional Republicans will start beating the drums for Trump to terminate what he himself has called that “horrible Iran deal.”

The Republican Party will become the “pro-Israel” party, while the Democrats can be portrayed as divided and conflicted, with a left wing that is pro-Palestine and sympathetic to sanctions on Israel.

And the problem for Trump in a full embrace of Bibi?

Britain and France, which voted for the resolution where the U.S. abstained, are going to go their separate way on the Israeli-Palestinian issue, as is the world.

Egypt, Jordan and the Gulf Arabs will be pressured by their peoples and by the militant states of the region like Iran, to distance themselves from the Americans or face internal troubles.

And once U.S. pressure ends and settlement building in the West Bank proceeds, Netanyahu, his hawkish Cabinet, the Israeli lobby, the neocons and the congressional Republicans will start beating the drums for Trump to terminate what he himself has called that “horrible Iran deal.

Calls are already coming for the cancellation of the sale of 80 Boeing jets to Iran. Yet, any U.S. withdrawal from the nuclear deal, or reimposition of sanctions on Iran, will further split us off from our European allies. Not only did Britain and France vote for the Security Council resolution, both are party, as is Germany, to the Iran deal.

Having America publicly reassert herself as Israel's best friend, with “no daylight” between us, could have us ending up as Israel's only friend — and Israel as our only friend in the Middle East.

Bibi's Israel First policy must one day collide with America First.

    1. To Hell with the Israelis. Push them into the sea. The Kike has a homeland, it’s called the USA. They either own or control everything in this country. They will do whatever they can for the illegal State of Israel at our expense. They serve willingly in the IDF in violation of the US Constitution, but you will rarely if ever find them in the US Armed Forces. They leave that job for the Goyim . They attacked and nearly sank an unarmed US Naval vessel in international waters on a clear day. U.S.S. Liberty 8 Jun 1967 in the Meditranean sea. No reasonable explanation was ever given and the entire incident was swept under the rug. 30 to 40 US Sailors killed. The Germans saw the problems that allowing the jew to flourish would bring. You can’t see it but the star of david flies over the US Capitol.

    2. So how is it a problem of the U.S. or any other nation? Israel can take care of their own problems. The creepy reason seems to be some U.S. Christians have ties with Israel so they can fulfill Biblical prophecy in their minds.

    3. How can such a conservative Christian intelligent man be such a Jewish hating jerk? It shows you that you can be right with God in your heart and be so wrong in your head. I believe the Bible that say if we bless Israel we will be blessed or if we curse Israel we will be cursed. I am really blessed to see such intelligent remarks made about this article. I am proud with the God kind of pride to be a pistol Packin preacher who loves JerUSAlem. Notice the USA in the middle of Jerusalem. Martin Luther the star of the Protestant revival who had such great revelation of Romans 5:1 and only our faith in Christ justifies us and not the name of our denomination of Catholic or Protestant persuasion but our personal relationship with Christ. He believed the Jews were Christ haters and should be punished and Hitler published many of his false understandings of the Jews. Yes many Jews reject the Lord Jesus Christ but they brought us Gentiles the Christ and without the Jews no one could be saved. This is what our country was built upon. It is an irony of ironies that the ones who brought us Christ rejects Him. They are still looking for the Messiah and will find Him when he comes the 2nd time but until then we must stand with Israel. I am thankful for many of Pat’s writings but he is totally blinded with hatred and bigotry when it comes to Israel. In His Presence, Pistol Packin Pentecostal Preacher

    4. Buchanan is nothing more than a political hack with a big mouth and a huge ego. He is part of a religious group that hates Israel with a passion and will choose the Muslim over the Jew every time. He doesn’t care that God gave this land to Israel and he will tell you something like, “I already know what I believe, so stop trying to confuse me with the truth.”

    5. Sounds like Buchanon should go BACK to sniffing the seat of Obama’s chair because he certainly LOST any little drizzle of intelligence he may have once had.

    6. Israel was attacked by the UAR in 1967 6 day War with the intent of wiping Israel off the map – the land in question was taken during that war and the Golan heights were used to attack Israel from high ground – this land was won fair and square and is Israel’s and there should never be a Palestinian State made from it especially since the Palestinian’s only live to destroy Israel at the first opportunity – if the surrounding Arab countries wish to donate land for a new Palestinian state then let them do so. I’m with Israel all the way and the lame duck Obama administration and the idiot Kerry need to keep the hell out of it now – their time to screw things up is over

    7. Mr Buchanon is a Christian by his statmentd. Does he not know that God almighty gave the land of Israel to Abraham and his descendants. God also told all the world He would bless or curse whoever blesses or curdes the Jewish people. Our suppory of Israel snd good treatment of the jews is why the US has prodpered

        1. Not really. The New Covenant was a “better covenant” which could never be broken, vs. a replacement covenant that wiped out the Old. Under the old covenant, Israel was kicked out of the land because of the curses in the Law for those who broke the law. Under the New Covenant, Israel would have the Law written on their hearts, never again violating that, and would never again be kicked out of Israel. Much of that is still future, but things are stacking up to fulfill it. Regarding the Blessing/Cursing, that was a promise given to Abraham, so it predates the Law. Christ never replaced that. The curse will only be strengthened under Christ’s rule.

    8. I thought better of pat Buchanan. I will say this PULL YOUR HEAD OUT go back and take a history refresher course!

    9. Pat’s article contains the hidden assumption that the Arabs-who-call-themselves-Palestinians would accept anything less than all the Jews marching into the Mediterranean Sea, either to sail away in boats, or just plain drown en-masse’. Please note that Jews already tried committing mass-suicide to placate a German-based anti-Semite back in the 1940s. Historical records will show that the Holocaust did NOT induce this carpet-biting individual into singing even one single verse of “Kumbaya”.in response. If the Jews go, then Pat can bet his last shekel that all Christians will be the next ones put on the Arab chopping-block, idiot!

    10. Mr. Buchanan,
You should really stop drinking whatever you’ve been putting in your Kool -Aid. It’s seriously affecting your mental processes. Until the “Palestinians” recognize Israel’s right to exist (don’t hold your breath}, there will never be peace.
Israel is the only democracy in that region and deserves all the help and backing we can give.
Until you recognize this, you really should stop commenting. You’re sounding like an Obama mouthpiece.

    11. You’re absolutely wrong, Pat. The land has always belonged to Israel….Period. The Palestinian state is a fabrication, institutionalized, to prevent Israel from becoming a sanctient nation. Your opinion serves only to politicalize the situation. Congratulations on maintaining your status as a politician instead of siding with justice.

    12. Israel been there done that they tried with the Gaza strip they pulled all the settlers out.. Turned everything over to the PA. Police stations, with all records, armed the PA Police, and the hospitals, Settlers farms and orchards, with irrigation systems. sellers homes, (destroyed these within 1 mile of the boarder) along with grain elevators and storage warehouses, and the major amount of the farming equipment. This was for peace with Gaza. Within 60 days the PA instead of picking up and moving on. took the bulldozers and destroyed the orchards, crops, grain elevators blown up housing destroyed. It seem they wanted nothing from the Jews. Put the funds received from the UN and the USA into weapons. Well within a year shooting rockets and small missiles into Israel. Think now they are asking it to get bit again, by trying it on the West Bank. A place where they pay people to kill Jews, send there child to kamikaze attacks, with straps on bombs, guns, and even knives. When the children and women carrying out these attacks get stopped or killed while trying to kill someone get killed themselves we see Israel as the bad guys. If they pulled out can you imagine what would eventually would Christian religious sites like Bethlehem under Hamas rule,

      1. Could not agree with this statement more, it is amazing the left has no sense of history, of the policies that continue to fail, what? Keep trying its bound to work? Typically stupid, and horrible at the loss of life they are ultimately responsible for, hold the the UN responsible for future deaths of Israelis because of this!

        1. Buchanan, has been against Israel for some reason. Always opposed military aid ect. I don’t know if he is antisemitic, but for sure anti-Israel.

    13. Yasser Arafat was offered a firm two state solution and rejected it. The single biggest stumbling block to peace between the “Palestinians” and Israel is the former’s denial of the latter’s right to exist. So while I agree with Buchanan that a two state solution is desirable, I doubt that he, thankfully like the rest of us, has ever had to deal with anyone who denied our right to exist. Begin there, and the settlements will vanish.

    14. This article is on the wrong side of the issue! We must stand with right, even if the rest of the world is on the wrong side! The Palestinians will never stand for a divide of the country, they do not even acknowledge Israel’s right to exist! The land is Israel’s and always has been!

    15. There never was a chance for a two nation solution. Palestinians are a fabrication by the other pagan states around Israel to force land from the rightful owners. Palestinians will never support the two nation solution or it would have already happened. The US has been at war with islam since the late 1700 or early 1800’s. It is time to go finish it. Even the koran says Israel should be 100 times larger than it is.
