Dear Bird Hunter,
Here in Kansas, we’re excited to report great habitat conditions across the state laid the foundation for excellent pheasant and quail seasons.
Spring and summer surveys, as well as anecdotal field reports, have backed that up. Improved habitat, good weather and a delayed wheat harvest provided ideal conditions for pheasant nesting across much of Kansas’ primary pheasant range.
And bobwhite quail numbers in the southcentral and southwest regions of the state look to be the best we’ve seen in decades.
That’s why I invite you to Kansas before the season ends. Our more temperate winters, compared to northern states, make Kansas a great destination for hunters who want a bird hunt without trudging through two feet of snow or enduring sub-zero temperatures.
Here are a few more reasons why Kansas is a great upland game destination:
- Lots of access: Kansas offers more than a million acres of walk-in access hunting. To help you plan your hunts strategically, we provide the 2016 Upland Bird Forecast and the Kansas Fall 2016 Walk-In Hunting Access Atlas.
- Mixed bag opportunities: Some of Kansas’ public hunting complexes include native grass, crop stubble, wooded draws and shelterbelts all in the same area. That’s why Kansas offers the best opportunity in the country for a mixed bag of pheasant and quail.Rooster Road Trip image
- Kansas offers more for hunters: Compared to other popular hunting destinations, Kansas has longer seasons, cheaper hunting licenses, and bigger bag limits.
- Online license and permit purchases: Kansas’ pheasant and quail season runs through Jan. 31. You can buy your Kansas hunting licenses and permits online.
While opening day has a strong tradition with bird hunters, mid- and late-season hunts can be more productive.
Opening weekend crowds are gone, and colder weather and maybe a little snow will bunch the birds up in heavy cover and provide better scenting conditions for your dogs.
Won’t you join us? Please come to Kansas for a great hunt!
