NRA-ILA’s Chris Cox: National Reciprocity “Morally Right”

USA – -(Ammoland.com)- NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris Cox sat down with NRATV’s Grant Stinchfield on Monday to affirm the NRA is already making aggressive moves towards ensuring “federal recognition that allows for people who have a legal right to carry a firearm, to carry it anywhere they have a legal right to be.”

While long over-due, ensuring National Reciprocity will provide a unique challenge for NRA in the days ahead, even within today’s political environment, shaped largely by gun owners and patriots who stood up to the Washington elites to send Donald Trump to the White House. “We can get it done if the American people and all of our supporters all across the country demand it,” Cox said. “All it takes is a little bit of a political backbone.”

For Stinchfield and Cox, the right of National Reciprocity centers on our God-given freedoms. “These aren’t new ideas or concepts. Anything in your ability to defend yourself and protect yourself from criminal attack is morally right.” As for those who don’t hold the same beliefs, Cox offered the following:  “If you don’t want to own a gun, don’t buy one, but don't suggest or legislate my ability to protect myself and my family.”

KITT, I’m just one of those people that believe in doing things right the first time and then you don’t have to redo them later. CONGRESS CAN GET IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME IF THEY WANT TO, I just hope that there are enough thinking, thoughtful people in congress to achieve that goal.

The above problems with the National Reciprocity bill reminds me of the OLD ADAGE: IF YOU ARE GOING TO DO SOMETHING VERY VERY IMPORTANT THEN DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME. I think that there maybe a rush to pass a bunch of laws that were not thought out completely and that would only lead to more law changes down the road. So Congress let’s do things right the first time and then there won’t be any misunderstandings, nothing missed, applies EQUALLY IN ALL STATES ETC, ANY CONCEALED CARRY, ANY WHERE AND FOR ALL LAW ABIDING CITIZENS.

Rep. Hudson’s (NC) Bill has numerous problems which neither he nor the NRA will address; 1. The Bill does not cover D.C., Possessions or Territories. 2. Under this Bill you can obtain a non-resident permit from a State like Utah and be able to carry and have reciprocity in all states BUT your own! You must be able to obtain a home State permit (under this Bill) in order to be able to carry in your own State of residence. In bad actor States like NJ, HI etc this is impossible. 3. There is no provision to pierce sovereign immunity… Read more »
