EDGEFIELD, S.C. -(Ammoland.com)- The National Wild Turkey Federation praises the U.S. Senate for confirming former Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue as Secretary of Agriculture.

Because of his rural Georgia roots and being a lifelong hunter-conservationist, the NWTF believes Secretary Perdue will have a positive impact in his new position and looks forward to working with him to ensure continued National Forest management for habitat, wildlife and reducing wildfire risk.

As an avid outdoorsman, Secretary Perdue understands and supports the issues facing our wild places, wildlife and hunters across the country.

“Secretary Perdue has been a longtime supporter of our Save the Habitat. Save the Hunt. initiative, and I am sure he will energetically guard our natural resources,” said Becky Humphries, NWTF CEO.

The NWTF will continue to work with the Department of Agriculture to ensure active forest and habitat management on National Forests throughout the United States, as well as continued open access to federal public lands for hunters and other outdoor enthusiasts.

About the National Wild Turkey Federation:

When the National Wild Turkey Federation was founded in 1973, there were about 1.5 million wild turkeys in North America. After decades of work, that number hit an historic high of almost 7 million turkeys. To succeed, the NWTF stood behind science-based conservation and hunters’ rights.
