USA -(Ammoland.com)- Members of the Wilson Combat shooting team recently attended the Gulf Coast Championship. The tier 4 IDPA match was held March 31 – April 1 in Bellville, Texas.

“It was a fun match, lots of steel activators and swingers/drop turners. The stages were set up to be sufficiently challenging for every class of competitor. Before this match I worked on basic fundamentals and worked on breaking in my new CQB Commander Compact that I will be shooting this year in CCP.”
CDP Division Champion: Jared Phillips

“This match was very straight forward. There were no gimmicks. The stages were set up to execute them quickly. Although the stages were straight forward, I had a hard time being mentally focused and prepared. Before each stage I would clear my head and just focus on the stage that was in front of me.”

“After the match booklet was released I noticed there was a lot of shooting on the move involved, so I took some time during the week in my practices to really focus on that particular skill. This was a match that also really made you focus on your footwork. Lots of quick movements from one position of cover to another that made it very easy to over step the positions.”

“Before this match I worked a vendor support training for TRIJICON. I was able to use my Brigadier (which is also my duty weapon as a LEO) at the training. This allowed me to get a little practice. The Gulf Coast Regional was a very well run match. I really liked the standards stage. The stages were not over challenging but were difficult enough to ensure that we did not all shoot a “clean” match.”

“The match directors (Jonathan Warrender, Randy Dillman, and Anthony Delacruz) and the supporting cast did a fantastic job organizing the event, developing the stage layouts, and planning the course of fire. Steel and paper were incorporated into most stages with a good range of distances from the POCs to the targets.”
