New Bigotry from Old Civil Rights Icons- The Failed Fantasy of Gun-control

Louisiana- (Ammoland.com)-  Bigotry works for politicians.  Blaming the innocent worked after the civil war.  White Democrats promoted fear of newly freed blacks.  Bigotry works today.  Now, black Democrats promote fear of free blacks who will defend themselves and the people they love.  Politicians always wrap themselves in the cloak of public safety.  In fact, that cloak is usually the white sheet of bigotry directed against minorities and the poor.

Democrat Congressman John Lewis said we need him so we can be safe.  Lewis also said that honest gun owners are not welcome in Atlanta.  “I must say to the NRA that you are not welcome here in the 5th district, you are not welcome here in Atlanta.”  That would have come as quite a shock to gun owner Martin Luther King Junior who was born in Atlanta.  Last month Congressman Lewis said, “We need to make our cities, our states, our neighborhoods free of gun violence.”

Murder isn’t a racial problem.  Murder isn’t a national problem.  Murder is a local problem, and let’s see if Democrat politicians actually keep us safe.  Research by the Crime Prevention Research Center found that, here in the US, only a few counties produce most of our homicides.  These are populous counties, to be sure, but there remain large areas of peace and quiet even within our most violent counties.

Los Angeles gives us a living example.  California has strict statewide gun laws.  In Los Angeles today, ordinary citizens can not get a permit to carry a concealed weapon in public.  Those are the restrictions Congressman Lewis asked for, yet Los Angeles County had over 500 murders and thousands of assaults last year.

90 days of murder in Los Angeles

Violence is concentrated in small areas.  Even within Los Angeles County, the cities of Beverly Hills, Hawthorne, and Van Nuys had one murder each.  Like Los Angeles, Atlanta, Georgia has areas that have very little crime, even though, taken as a whole, the city is four times more violent than the US average.

Congressman Lewis is wrong.  Guns are not the problem.  81 thousand NRA members flooded into Atlanta at the end of April.  There were more than 20 thousand armed individuals in one room for days on end.  There was no surge in “gun violence”, to use the Congressman’s phrase.  When the statistics are made available, I predict that crime fell in Atlanta while the NRA was in town.  That is the pattern we’ve seen year after year, in city after city.

It is worth noting that even in the most violent section of our deep blue cities, only a few percent of the population causes crime.  The vast majority of us are law abiding.  That is true everywhere.  Unfortunately, bad government policies have poisoned the life of our inner cities.  Democrat politicians drove out industry and encouraged dependency.  Local prosecutors refused to remove violent criminals from our streets.

Politicians also protect their donors.  That is true in both a political sense, and in a literal sense.  We’ve seen big-city mayors move police into elite enclaves while crime flourishes in the ghetto.

Poor minorities are disproportionately hurt by crime.  Black women have the greatest need to defend themselves and their families.  Marchelle Tigner is a black firearms instructor who teaches in the Atlanta area and helps fill that need.  Tigner said, “My end game is to effectively teach a million women how to shoot before I die.”  She has taught hundreds of black women this year alone. Her students learn the safe and responsible use of firearms…and Tigner’s classes are full.

Tigner advocates self-defense for women.  Maj Toure is a hip-hop artist who tours the US teaching that everyone has the right of self-defense.

That Tigner and Toure have eager audiences shouldn’t surprise us.  This is not the 1960s.  Today, our society embraces self-empowerment.  That includes self-protection and self-defense.  A poll taken in late 2014, by Pew Research, showed that 54% of black people felt that owning guns did “more to protect people than endanger personal safety”.  That attitude explains why we see more and more minorities taking firearms classes and learning to legally protect themselves.

Real feminism is about empowerment and taking our safety into our own hands. -Antonia Okafor

Not everyone agrees.  Congressman Lewis wants us disarmed.  Shame on him.  Condemning the innocent for the actions of a few is the very definition of bigotry.  The answer is simple for young politicians and for old ones.

Protect all our rights..all the time, everywhere.

“Today we need a nation of minute men; citizens who are not only prepared to take up arms,
but citizens who regard the preservation of freedom as a basic purpose of their daily life
and who are willing to consciously work and sacrifice for that freedom.
The cause of liberty, the cause of America, cannot succeed with any lesser effort.”
– President John F. Kennedy

I find it interesting, given the gist of the article, that neither in the article or the comments written so far that the action of then Gov Ronald Reagan to deny the carrying of guns has not been mentioned.

“People who object to weapons aren’t abolishing violence, they’re begging for rule by brute force, when the biggest, strongest animals among men were always automatically ‘right.’
Guns ended that, and social democracy is a hollow farce without an armed populace to make it work.”

WOW! Very well put. Who is/was L. Neil Smith? Sounds like he had a really good handle on things.

Rather those who for brandishing weapons are for violent confrontations. You think defending your honor and pride counts as self-defense so you either use the threat of violence or walk away when you realize your opponent can summon more violence.

Gil, I guess you have never been confronted by evil. Your intentions are note worthy but not realistic, if you have ever educated yourself in any self defense course, the first tool in the self defense first and fore most is ones intellect (The Most Powerful Tool). Every other device used in an evil confrontation for self defense is nothing more then an extension of the intellect.

Americans using their second Amendment Rights, legally trained permitted/licensed shooters with firearms. Do not listen to the political base trying to corrode the Constitution. Remember they will not be there when adversity strikes, to protect you or your family………………………Carry On……….
P.S.; The Constitution & Bill of Rights are for all of US (wink, wink) not just the Elite.

I think that was well said. If there is ever some type of public safety issue, those democratic politicians will have armed staff to provide them and their families with a level of self defense. They want you to be disarmed so they are safe. That is the democratic/liberal hypocrisy.

they will soon enough find out, the hard way when there will be no escape, that they are disarming the wrong ones. We who tend to obey laws anyway are NOT the ones posing a danger to them. The ones who ignore laws at their convenience are the dange,r and they are NOT disarmed by their flyspecks on paper. And their “guns for hire” protection forces will be no match for desparate, crazed, miscreants with nothing to lose.

Great article about gun ignorance, yet a group of smiling young ladies in the photo labeled “Antonia Okafor” are “packing Mexican” or “gangsta.”
Holsters are for carrying hand guns safely, either concealed or open. C’mon, get with it!

There was an interesting article in a national LEO journal years ago, around 2010 as I remember. An experienced LEO was addressing the, then new, issue of widespread concealed carry and how to tell the good guys from the bad. He opined that it was actually pretty easy to tell the good guys from the bad guys who were carrying, and it could be determined almost perfectly by one factor. How they carried. The good guys virtually always carried in a holster, while the bad guys almost universally didn’t. Overall appearance was also an element – good guys were usually… Read more »

Gil always pushing a governmental solution. Stalin, his buddy Hitler, Mao Tsedung, the moslems, Pol Pot all used the Gil solution. The Japanese in the Pacific, the Turks to the Armenians on and on.

You prefer the ol’ fashioned method of “let them shoot each other dead and let God sort them out.”

@Gil, for a VPC shill, you sure think violently. Maybe I have the purpose of the Violence Policy Center all wrong. It is the governments that kill big. That is how they get to be government.

Dear Gil I wish I had the free time you do. It is absolutely mind boggling to me that you have the time to troll here everyday like you do. You are no different than every other leftist pos in this country. You have time to come on here and try to stir the pot. But you don’t have time to get off your lazy ass and actually make a difference. At least you didn’t waste time actually reading the article. That much is obvious from your comment. As much as it burns my ass to think that I’m probably… Read more »

Gil its not an issue of “how many” are shot dead, but WHICH KIND. Those intending evil upon others should top the list… but they are usually not revealed until they DO something evil to someone.

GOvernments in the last century were all about killing numbers. It dod not work, did it?
