USA – -( When Attorney General Jeff Sessions testified this week, he gave a textbook example of how to define a position and then defend it brilliantly while under partisan attack. He was clearly well prepared and had thought through the tone and toughness with which he would defend his record, his reputation, and his honor. He began with a firm clear statement:

“Let me state this clearly, colleagues. I have never met with or had any conversation with any Russians or any foreign officials concerning any type of interference with any campaign or election in the United States. Further, I have no knowledge of any such conversations by anyone connected to the Trump campaign. I was your colleague in this body for 20 years, at least some of you. And the suggestion that I participated in any collusion that I was aware of, any collusion with the Russian government to hurt this country which I have served with honor for 35 years, or to undermine the integrity of our democratic process is an appalling and detestable lie.”

Note the use of “appalling and detestable lie” delivered forcefully.

As I watched the Attorney General calmly and firmly stand his ground and then, when appropriate, counterattack with intensity and passion, it occurred to me that we were watching a remarkable moment.

Sessions set the tone of righteous defense early on:

“I recused myself from any investigation into the campaign for president, but I did not recuse myself from defending my honor against false allegations. “At all times throughout the course of the campaign, the confirmation process, and since becoming Attorney General, I have dedicated myself to the highest standards. I have earned a reputation for that. At home and in this body, I believe. Over decades of performance…… These false attacks and innuendos and the leaks, you can be sure, will not intimidate me. These events have only strengthened my resolve to fulfill my duty.”

Every Republican, including the President and the Vice President, should study the video of the Sessions’ testimony.

Part of what made it so exceptional was his militant refusal to let the Left define the terms of the debate. When one Senator asked him about unsubstantiated rumors, he pushed it right back in the Senator’s lap. He insisted that the Senator define what he was talking about. When the questioner simply could not produce any substance, it was clear that it was now Sessions who was on offense and his questioners who were on defense. Consider this exchange:

“WYDEN: Respectfully, you're not answering the question. “SESSIONS: What is the question? “WYDEN: The question is, Mr. Comey said there were matters with respect to the recusal that were problematic, and he couldn't talk about them. What are they? “SESSIONS: Why don't you tell me? There are none, Senator Wyden. There are none. I can tell you that for absolute certainty. This is a secret innuendo being leaked out there about me, and I don't appreciate it.”

Is there any doubt who grew and who shrank in that exchange? Republicans should also study the disciplined passion with which Sessions defended himself and condemned those who attempted to smear what he said was 35 years of honorable service to the country. All too often Republicans fall into a trap where they seek to be calm and reasonable, while allowing the Left to speak with passion. The result is an imbalance in body language, which can lead the audience to believe that those with passion are right, even when wrong, and those who remain quiet and reasonable are wrong, even when right. Sessions dominated the Democrats in his disciplined intensity. He used strong words and showed strong emotion, when appropriate. Yet he was so disciplined and modulated that he never seemed overly emotional or out of control. Sessions’ testimony was truly a profile in courage. His determination to insist on the truth and to defend himself against every lie and aspersion is the gold standard for which Republicans should strive. Your Friend, Newt

    1. If you read some of the statements made by folks, you can tell which way they lay on a subject. Some of the folks here think that all Sessions did was lie and that he’s ignorant of his job because he doesn’t remember some stupid regulation out of the thousands that populate his department. You’d have to be a computer to store all that knowledge. As for his testimony I’d say he did a great job defending himself from a made up story that was hatched as the brain-child of John Podesta upon the event of the Dems losing the Presidential election.

As Col. Slade stated in “Scent of a Woman” during the inquest and grilling of the young Student he had guiding him around on the previous weekend – ” WHAT A CROCK OF SH*T!”

    2. My thoughts on Sessions and his defense was a carefully crafted pile of rubbish. It was a waste of people time, however he did not lie he just failed to tell the truth. Any man in this position owe it to the American people to be more open and answer questions, his memory is gone and he should be disqualified for AG. He was careful not to get caught in a lie by simply repeatedly can’t remember, all the can’t remember questions is a way of saying this is true. Sessions behavior is truly that of a communist run government, the whole WH seems communist, why can’t anyone tell the truth anymore. Whether it be the Dems or Gop the whole of Washington is truly a swamp and neither party is cleaning it up. It’s outrageous each day is another day of someone doing exactly what Sessions did by not being truthful. I wish a truth bomb could be made and dropped on Washington till it was bombed into submission, then all could go home and have new leadership. Which brings me to my idea of having term limits for Congress and Senate. It’s an understatement to say I am fed up with Washington with all that’s going on I have to wonder who’s in there fighting for poor, middle class, aged, sick and the general welfare of the American people, seems that is forgotten, what are we paying these bunch of clowns for ? Well I guess just for a very sad news story. Fed Up !

    3. Not relevant to the subject. But, please send me an email when your done with your Chuck Norris adds. I will then return to your site, possibly. Nothing personal against the Chuckster. But, he refuses to let me read your articles in a timely manner. He shows up and won’t go away. It is a painful nuisance. If you folks are that hard up for readers, i will read them twice. This should make you warm and fuzzy, about reaching more readers………. Seriously this is really stupid. I doubt it’s limited to my computer.

    4. why is there no investigative council on hillary obama and the rest of the REAL criminals?

I think we know why….the Dems criminally colluded with one another to prevent it from happening,

    5. Im sorry but Sessions couldnt remember anything even current statutes and rules governing yhe AGs office. That wasnt a good show on his part. He shouldnt be holding that position if you do not know anything about the office you run.
Newt IMO is the typical lobbiest and part of tbe swamp. He flip flopped on the appointment of the special investigator first ststing he was the best and most honest for the job.
Id like to see everyone go to jail on both sides of the isle and really drain the swamp.

        1. @WildBill thanks and I am about third thru Biblical Backgrounds a very good read. My favorite author bar none is Richard Wurmbrand who spent 14 years in a communist prison. He was a converted Jew who lived through the holocaust and fought the communists. He is the most read person, man of God I know of past or present. He died a few years ago. He appeared before our congress and testified for the atrocities against freedom. He wrote several books. They are all true treasures. Thanks again for your service to our country in the armed forces and also now as a true patriot for freedom and for our country the USA. Keep it comin bro!!!

          1. @Ammoland I thank you for posting my comments about Richard Wurmbrand. His biography is entitled “Tortured for Christ” He started the ministry “Christ in the communist Prisons” but was renamed “The Voice of the Martyrs” which it is today. I was just wondering what “your comment is awaiting moderation” means?

        2. @Wild Bill thanks and I recommended a book to you earlier and then it got erased. What’s that all about? Anyway again I am a third through Biblical Backgrounds and love it.
