USA –-(Ammoland.com)- The Virginian-Pilot (PilotOnline.com) reports 05-26-2017 in Norfolk, Virginia, a 24-year-old tugboat deckhand was shot dead in Ocean View.

He was pointing a gun at his killer and trying to stop a robbery, his brother said.

The victim had been hanging out with some neighbors at his apartment building in the 9000 block of 1st View St. when a woman came up to the group and asked to use someone’s phone.

They told her they didn’t have one she could use. The victim, suspicious the woman might be casing the place, ran back to his apartment, got his handgun and returned to his neighbor’s.

After coming back, a man wearing a bandana pointed a gun at them. So the victim took aim at the would-be robber and ordered him to put his gun on the ground. The man seemed to comply, slowly lowering it.

But then he jerked up and fired, hitting the victim in the stomach.

Four adults and one juvenile have been charged with second-degree murder and using a gun to commit it. Those arrested are 21 & 22 year old males, 18 and 20 year old females as well as a 17 year old unidentified juvenile.

The victim’s brother got a look at the shooter’s face and even though part of it was covered by the bandana, it didn’t look like the mug shots for the four adults. So he assumes the 17-year-old was the shooter.

Comments:

There is a lot of risk in giving your opponent a chance to surrender (or flee). You expect them to do the rational thing and run. If you wish to give them a chance, do so from hard cover!

We are now in a time period where the street criminals will kill just to eliminate witness for a minor crime, to gain street credibility or sometimes for absolutely no reason at all.

While we’re at it, be aware it is common for the juvenile of a criminal group to be the shooter as they usually get lighter sentences.

    1. As an LAPD Officer once told me, “What would you choose, standing trial for killing some scumbag or having him stand trial for killing you?

      1. oooooohhh… I LIKE that . !!

Yes, it will be a real bitch to have to go thru whatever happens to you after you kill someone…….but THAT will be WAYMO BETTER than what your family goes thru if YOU are killed……

      2. Awesome analogy… right up there with the “better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6” thing!
Thanks, will be using this if the need ever arises.

    2. It was the Democrats who instituted gun control laws to render the black population defenseless against the KKK after the Civil War. As a result, the racial composition of congress, which had a large number of black Representatives and Senators post-Civil War, quickly changed to completely white due to voter intimidation and suppression. Amazing that most black people are now Democrats. Lyndon Johnson was right, when, after his Great Society program was passed, said that black Americans (he used the N-word) “will be voting Democratic for the next 200 years”.
Another factoid that is getting NO coverage by the LameStream media is that almost ALL of the politically-motivated violence is perpetrated by The Left – specifically, Registered Democrats and their paid operatives.

The Dems are always content to pass laws granting un-elected officials such as AGs and Secretaries of one Department or another arbitrary power to curtail or end constitutional rights. We could cut down “gun violence” quite a bit if we just made Registered Democrats “Prohibited Persons” as far as gun ownership goes… Failing that as being unconstitutional, how ’bout we declare Liberalism and Progressiveism as a “Mental Disorder”?

      1. NEVER pull out a weapon if you don’t intend to use it, and use that weapon to defend yourself as soon as you clear the holster and aim. I am not a law enforcement officer, I have no duty to warn. If you point a weapon at me, you ARE threatening my life. I WILL shoot you in self defense at my first opportunity to do so, as is my inalienable right. To defend myself AFTER I have defended myself, I carry USCCA carry insurance. They will provide my after-shooting defense.

      2. Not all Black people are bad, just like all whites are not good…our society needs to stop being so judgmental.. parents have to be parents..teach their children to be their best…respect themselves and others

      3. I am a liberal and a democrat. I have carried for 20 years legally. However I have owned guns/weapons since I was 9. The KKK scared the hell out of me growing up and I always wanted a weapon in my vehicle for protection. I grew up in rural Georgia. I am a 67 Anglo and I have been around a while. I have defended myself 3 times with a pistol. But never have I killed someone, but always ready. My last draw resulted in a police investigation, which I came out clean. Still have my CWP. The first 2 times the individuals actually went to the police, but I never was investigated. I think even the police knew I was right. Just from their stories. Always ready, but never stupid like Zimmerman.

      4. Liberalism and Progressiveism are more more “mental disorders” than are Conservatism and the current overwhelming urge to corrupt the Second Amendment by allowing citizens to carry weapons.

        1. Wait… what?
Margaret, did you complete high school? Seriously, look at your post… grammar, meaning… none of it makes sense.
Oh, and by the way, the right to keep and BEAR arms allows citizens to carry weapons… your argument makes no sense.

    3. Remember a law abiding citizen who uses a firearm in self defense and kills the criminal,
did not take a life, the criminal FORFEITED their life because of their criminal act.

TAKE THE SHOT, the criminal will not play by the rules, they are aiming a firearm at you.

    4. Remember a law abiding citizen who uses a firearm in self defense and kills the criminal,
did not take a life, the criminal FORFEITED their life because of their criminal act.

TAKE THE SHOT, the criminal will not play by the rules, they are aiming a firearm at you.

    5. Re: story this morning about the Capitol Hill baseball game shooting. First report witness have a police officer yelling to the advancing (already fired several shots) shooter to “Drop your weapon!! “…maybe the cops have to do that?? but as an individual, I would hope I would have shot fimmediately, without any warning to the shooter. He IS a live, moving, shooting threat. Dispatch him with extreme prejudice…..

      1. Could it be that george soros has stuped to a new low and hired a paid assign ? It targeted republicans. That picture of him that was posted on this site last week sure looked like a drug burned out carcass. James t. Hoskinson a Bernie supporter has been identified as the shooter.

      2. According to case law a LEO has to identify himself and verbally order the shooter to surrender “unless doing so is not feasible or not safe.” Identifying oneself and challenging an offender is so ingrained in most LEOs that they will automatically do it, even if, as in this case, it’s unnecessary and may have drawn the shooter’s attention (and fire) away from his intended victims and onto the officer.
It’s always a good idea, if you can safely do so, to verbalize orders. If you don’t, witnesses will be found to say you murdered the shooter. I wouldn’t want to have to tell a grand jury that I terminated someone with extreme prejudice.

        1. Yeah, I wasn’t sure about that…..but not sure of your blanket comment about LEO’s having to identify oneself and verbally order. Perhaps. Perhaps not. As a Federal Flight Deck Officer ( armed and trained US Commercial Airline Pilot, carrying Federally issued semiautomatic pistols with big numbers) I was NOT required to identify myself – nor issue any commands before using deadly force against anyone coming through the cockpit door. Now, we had to make split second decisions as to whether we would be shooting Abdul or an innocent drunken passenger. But we were NOT required to do anything— except protect the Flight Deck….at all costs.

And BTW, the ONLY thing we were told to EVER to say to anyone was “I STOPPED THE THREAT”.

    6. Yes, remember reading that story and recall my first thoughts were how tragic and the same things Bob Irwin stated, he should have been behind cover and shot as soon as the perp pulled the handgun on them.

If you’re going to carry, you better be prepared to use it when you pull it. The victim unfortunately did not plan to use lethal force and died because of that.

    7. I know this is hard for some people. Dont own a firearm for self defense unless you are prepared to use it. I believe you have to mentally walk through what is going to happen if you are in a situation like this. As soon as the bad guy pointed his firearm at the victim, it was time to shoot to defend. Too many hollywood flicks where pointing a firearm at a bad guy makes them put theirs down and surrender.

      1. How true…I mean seeing that on TV. This blog really causes those of us with CWP to remember the gravity and magnitude of our right to carry. If I ever have to draw down (God in Heaven I pray not) on an evildoer I will follow through.

      1. Yep, don’t see many Trump supporters in that group. And for sure, firearm was not legally acquired. I understand the liberal risk of shooting first and dealing with attorneys, etc. However, I would rather be alive for my day in court than dead at the hands of these scumbags.

        1. Don’t bother with answering it, It’s nothing but a mindless liberal troll and complete idiot; I doubt it even owns a squirt gun and has to use a thread to find the one it was born with.

          1. Even if you’re good guy doesn’t mean you’re going to win all the time. It could be argued he was going to be dead even if he didn’t have a gun.

            1. Gil, yes innocent people are victims of crime. The point is if you have a firearm, you must use. Otherwise you are just as defenseless as if you didn’t have one. That’s what happened to this guy.
