Since the “Baseball Field Shooting Incident” of 14 June 2017, a half-dozen bills have been forwarded in Congress, all addressing the issue of politicians (but only politicians) carrying concealed guns in DC, or anywhere else they want, including “gun-free” zones.

Of course, this is all so “justified,” due to (as always) “increased threats.”

I’m not sure if this point ever came up during discussions, but many more “ordinary” US citizens are murdered every year than are Congressmen!

But, only Congressmen are slated for the special privileges specified in any of the aforementioned bills.

For them, there is almost no risk, even without legislation mentioned above. Who is going to arrest them?

Some proposed legislation requires “training,” of some sort or another. Some contain no training requirement.

I suspect many Congressmen carry concealed in DC now, and have for some time. For them, there is almost no risk, even without legislation mentioned above. Who is going to arrest them?

Capitol Police? DC Metro Police?

In any event, I strongly suspect one of the above bills will quietly become law very soon, with scant discussion, nor the slightest interest on the part of the media.

While all this is going on, bills that finally grant state-to-state concealed-carry-permit-reciprocity to us mere peons languish interminably in committee, and are endlessly denigrated in the media.

Oh, I know: Such legislation is “impossible.” Well, it may be impossible when it pertains only to “ordinary” citizens, but Congress always magically finds a way to fast-track confirmation of special privileges upon themselves, particularly when it is their personal safety that is the concern.

Our personal safety is obviously vastly less important!

“Equality before the law is probably forever unattainable. It is a noble ideal, but it can never be realized, for what men value in this world is not rights, but privileges.” ~ Mencken

What about their full salary for life after one term in office and Cadillac health plan for life. Personal spending account for everything from vacation trip to dinner out. They really take care of themselves.

Another way to look at these proposed enhanced self protection bills for the poli’s is that if THEY pass any such laws, then WE will likely be closer to universal rights to carry, etc. If THEY have and learn to appreciate such a “privilege”, and experience the personal empowerment of knowing they can actually have a chance at defending themselves because they are armed, why heck, even come Democrats might be much less inclined to be anti 2A. Hopefully.

If anyone should be permitted to carry in, “The District”, it should be those that served in uniform honorably!

I am fully expecting that news story of the quietly, dead of night, passage of the bill that gives to elected members the right to defend themselves where ever they roam. It’s already the privileged few who can violate D.C. Law being in possession, even temporarily, of a 30 round magazine banned by code, and holding up for all to see on a national news network in blatant violation after being told it would not be permissible. And how many aides and staff of these privileged few have been found in violation whose incidents quietly disappeared from the news cycle?… Read more »

@Lorenzo, You are right, of course. I remember Ted Kennedy getting arrested all the time for driving drunk and groping women. The MOC maybe subject to arrest, but no District of Corruption Cop is dumb enough to do it.

…..and I apologize for the incorrect spelling of your name Mr. Farnham.
