ANKENY, IA –-( The National Association of Sporting Goods Wholesalers (NASGW), in partnership with the Professional Outdoor Media Association (POMA), have created six new shooting sports industry awards to recognize excellence in innovation and manufacturing.

Called the “Caliber Awards,” they will honor the highest caliber new products in six product categories including best new rifle, handgun, shotgun, ammunition, optic and best new accessory – and an overall best new product award chosen from these six.

“We are very excited about the partnership with POMA and these new Caliber Awards, recognizing the amazing products our manufacturing members create. NASGW will continue to honor manufacturers committed to wholesale distribution with our annual “Leadership Awards,” but these new awards will be all about the best new products of the year,” said Kenyon Gleason, NASGW president.

“The industry was interested in this type of recognition and the NASGW Expo Awards dinner offers the perfect opportunity to give these products and manufacturers the credit they deserve.”

While the awards will be presented during the NASGW Expo and Annual Meetings, the partnership with POMA adds a dimension to the awards not currently found in any other industry awards program.

“POMA is made up of the most influential media in the outdoor industry – from broadcast, to social, to web and print. These are people who make their livelihood telling the stories of the outdoors and truly understand a great product when they see it,” said Kevin Orthman, executive director of POMA. “We are excited to work with NASGW on the Caliber Awards to harness that expertise to recognize the great manufacturers and products changing our industry.”

To qualify for the Caliber Awards, a manufacturer must meet the following criteria:

  • Manufacturers must be an NASGW member in good standing,
  • The product needs to be submitted through the NASGW Expo New Product Showcase available on the Expo website,
  • The product must have been publicly released between the end of last year’s NASGW Expo and the beginning of this year’s Expo.

An independent panel of 18 industry judges will select the Caliber Award winners. Just like the NASGW Leadership Awards, honoring the industry’s strong wholesale partners, winners of the Caliber Awards will be announced during the NASGW EXPO Annual Awards Dinner San Antonio, Texas on October 17. Tickets for the dinner and further details on the awards are available at

The National Association of Sporting Goods Wholesalers is comprised of wholesalers, manufacturers, independent sales reps, media and service providers – both national and international – all of whom are primarily focused on shooting sports equipment and accessories.
