Are Gun Laws Really Common Sense..or More of the Same Stupid Stuff?

Slow FactsU.S.A. –-(  Are gun laws really “common sense” or are they extraordinarily foolish?  Let’s look at the gun control laws being asked for today.

Do these regulations restrict criminals, or do they restrict honest citizens? Look at the record and decide for yourself.

Anti-gun advocates say we should mandate “universal background checks.”

That means you’d go to the gun store each time a firearm changed hands, even if it isn’t sold.  You couldn’t borrow a gun to teach someone to shoot.  You’d need a background check if you cleaned your girlfriend’s gun or if she touched yours..even if the guns are the same model, you both have carry permits, and you’re living together.  Not without a background check and government permission.  Does that really make us safer?

The anti-rights politicians certainly made it more cumbersome for honest people to own guns.  Do you think criminals actually follow this law?  Drug gangs don’t to to the gun store and get background checks when they trade drugs for guns.  This “common sense gun control” seems like more of the same old propaganda than real common sense.

The anti-rights activists want you disarmed in public.

They want states to stop recognizing the concealed carry permits issued by other states.  I have to wonder who are we disarming.  Licensed concealed carry holders already had an FBI  background check.  When you look at their record, licensed concealed carriers are more law abiding than the police.  The anti-rights gun control bigots say that disarming these scrupulously honest gun owners will disarm criminals.  Is that true?

Criminals carry illegally and don’t bother to get a concealed carry permit.  Is it common sense to disarm honest gun owners or is it more of the same old stupid stuff?

Advocates who work against your right to be armed want to register guns and ammunition.

Drug gangs move tons of drugs, billions of dollars in cash, and millions of people across the US borders.  Do you think the gangs will give up their guns simply because we regulate honest gun owners?  I don’t see how.  We already know that criminals get their guns illegally.  Gun prohibition doesn’t work any better than drug and alcohol prohibition.

  • In fact, these gun control regulations leave more disarmed victims facing more armed criminals.  That doesn’t make us safer.  That doesn’t make sense at all.

Time and again the politicians claim to regulate honest citizens in the name of public safety.

We’re told that certain firearms are too dangerous for us to own.  Those same rules never apply to the police or the people guarding politicians.  We’re told that honest gun owners need to take days of training and to pay hundreds of dollars in fees before they are safe enough. Is is really common sense to think that criminals bother to take those classes and pay those fees?

We’ve seen what gun control actually accomplished.  Gun prohibition disarmed millions of honest civilians.

The anti-rights bigots who propose more gun control shifted power to the government and to criminals.  That never made common sense.

Do you think gun laws actually reduce crime?

    1. I’m cringing, waiting for the day when some state’s existing gun registry gets hacked, providing the criminal elements a nice way to fill their shopping lists. Ditto for ammo. CC permit holders have already been outed is some places, but who’s got what would be a real boon to criminals. There aught to be some pretty good grounds for lawsuits if this does happen. OTOH, if the bad guys are really smart, they would keep such a hack under wraps as long as possible so they have more time to “shop” before the alarm is sounded.

    2. Constitutional Carry Period……………I am finished with the misinformed Communists, Liberals, Lefties, Marxists, and the rest of the historical failures. Follow the United States of America’s Constitution, along with the Bill of Rights, or get out of the United States of America. The USA does not need you!

    3. “Modern gun control” began in NY with the Sullivan Law. Previous laws always always referenced Indians [Native Americans] or slaves or black people the intention was clear before 1900. But the Sullivan Law was promoted as crime control, safety and “not racist.”
      The truth.
Tim Sullivan was a leader of the Irish Five Points Gang [see the movie Gangs of New York, it is a mild version of the gangs of NYC]. Tim got elected by intimidation and then wrote a gun law that gave him the power to deny or issue a permit with complete discretion.
Tim Sullivan or teh agents appointed could and did issue permits to the Five Points Gang members and associates and denied permits to rivals and ordinary citizens who might use a gun to defend themselves from criminals.
The law was intended to promote crime which helps explain why crime always increases after “new gun control” goes into effect.
It was a fraud from the start. The media will not report the facts. Hollywood never makes movies about the truth.
Since Donald Trump was elected President and since a dozen states have passed Constitutional Carry many gun owners decided that te war on our rights has been won. Some even oppose National Reciprocity because they have a fanatical idea of how they wish the government operated. The fact is “The People think the Constitution protects their rights. Government sees the Constitution as an obstacle to be overcome.”

    4. While I agree with what you are saying, I find it doesn’t help when you make a bombastic statement without backing it up. Please, sir, what is the source for … “When you look at their record, licensed concealed carriers are more law abiding than the police.”

“Gun control is marketed as ‘common sense’ because ignorance about firearms is really the only way to advance it.” Now, this I agree with totally. I would enjoy hearing your thoughts on how to educate the public – the ones who can be taught, as opposed to those who are convinced that a cure is needed and the cure is to remove all guns. The latter seems to only hear us say “blah, blah, blah” when we defend the 2A. The ones we want to reach, those who can be influenced, will want facts that make our side in this sound like “common sense.”

The 2A and gun control are not strictly Rep. vs. Dem or strictly conservative vs. liberal as there are gun owners who … well, check out .

For me, the real question is, “How do we make defending the 2A more inclusive; gaining support and not alienating those who would support us?”

      1. Sorry Smitty – while I’m mostly not in disagreement with your main message, there was nothing “bombastic” about the statement that licensed/concealed carriers are less likely to commit crimes than LEOs (yes I paraphrased). One notable study based on statistics from Florida and Texas (around 3 times the legal carriers just from those 2 states – as the LE community has nationwide) revealed that those licensed carriers are SEVEN times less likely to commit any crime, much less one involving firearms. You can look it up…………;-)
NOT bashing you by any means but gun supporters certainly don’t need to emulate what the republican elites are doing and eat our own.
BTW, the d versus r argument is a straw-man at best, remember that dingy harry got an A rating from the NRA.

    5. Common sense tells me that the more government controls the worse our lives become. Cases in point, USSR, Cuba, N. Korea, China etc. I have often stated that if USA could get rid of half our government amd half the regulations and laws our economy and lifestyles would soar to new hieghts! Common sense also says if we conservatives will register as republicans in the primaries we could send real constitutional supporting candidates to our state houses and Washington. If you are not willing to do this now that our nation is on the brink of disappearing, when will you be? We can fight at the ballot box now or fight a war with the liberals in our streets later. Common sense says the former is better.

      1. As a commie, leftist, liberal, as you would derogatorily label me, I think you might be very unpleasantly surprised when you come to “fight me in the street” and discover that I own as many guns as you do, and can shoot as well as you do. You might want to remember to wear your Kevlar underwear.
Who in the F do you think you are to make the blanket statement that only Rs, and all Rs are 2A advocates and defenders, and that only D’s and all Ds are 2A opponent’s and detractors.
It’s this sort of idiotic blanket mentality that only Rs are good people, and all Ds are bad people that highlights just how ignorant and uneducated you really are about the facts with respect to 2A advocacy, and the realities of life in general.
There are good and bad both sides of this issue and every other issue and that is something you need to learn and understand.
As long as you insist on blaming all the problems in this country on the liberals exclusively you will never resolve anything because you fail to see the fact that conservatives cause just as many problems as liberals, and that a good many of our politicians who are anti- 2A are conservative Republicans, like our good – LOL – US Attorney General Jeff Sessions and idiot former Republican mayor of New York Rudy Giuliani, both notoriously anti-2A.

        1. Skeeter, you seem a little tense. Did my comment hit too close to home? The kevlar underwear thing is funny! I dont think I attacked you personally but ok. Its all about your feelings, right? If you democrats quit worrying adout how things make you feel perhaps some common sense might creep into the way you vote. Keep voting for people like Pelosi, Reed, Shumer, Waters etc. and there will eventually be fighting in the streets. You libs are a bunch of lemmings. There, now thats a personal attack.

    6. Seeing the sun rise in the east and set in the west everyday, then concluding that the sun revolves around the earth is ‘common sense’ astronomy – until one widens one’s perspective and learns more about the stars and earth, one sees how simplistic and wrong that ‘common sense’ astronomy was! It’s essentially no different when it comes to firearms.
When you actually familiarize yourself with firearms and their use it becomes evident rather quickly how arbitrary, irrational and useless gun control is.
I’ve never encountered a legitimate gun control argument, nor can I remotely conceive of one. Gun control is marketed as ‘common sense’ because ignorance about firearms is really the only way to advance it.

    7. “Common Sense” Gun Laws only lead to the slippery slope of total confiscation by unscrupulous politicians. Once they get one through, then it is “just one more” until they are all gone. DO NOT trust politicians especially Democrats!

Like Patrick Henry said – “Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect everyone who approaches that jewel.”

        1. Yeah, still kind of waiting for some politicians with commonsense, what a novelty that would be. Republican or Democrat.

      1. DO NOT trust politicians especially Democrats! Really? You seem to be forgetting about, or maybe totally ignorant of the secret cabal of Republican politicians in Idaho earlier this year who were advancing many very restrictive anti-second amendment laws in behind the scenes out of public scrutiny , Republicans, one-and-all.
Yeah, so much for the “don’t trust politicians especially Democrats” mentality.
That worked out so well in Idaho this year.
