National Skeet Shooting AssociationSAN ANTONIO-(Ammoland.com)- The world’s best skeet shooters will convene September 28 – October 7 at the National Shooting Complex in San Antonio, Texas, as the National Skeet Shooting Association (NSSA) hosts its 82nd annual World Skeet Championships. NSSA expects approximately 900 shotgunners to compete for World Championship titles in several skeet categories.

Any NSSA member can participate in the World Skeet Championships, as shooters compete not only in the Open category, but also against others of similar ability and in concurrents determined by age and gender.

While the main event of the 10-day tournament takes place over the final five days, a series of registered events will comprise the entire 2017 World Skeet Championships, beginning with a 4×50 shoot on September 28. In the 4×50 event, participants shoot 50 targets each in 12-gauge, 20-gauge, 28-gauge, and .410 bore. On the following day, the Mini World – which began many years ago as a warm-up for the World Shoot but has evolved into a major competitive event of its own – begins with Doubles competition, followed by events in all four gauges/bore.

On Monday, October 2, shooters compete in honor of the late Wayne Mayes, arguably the greatest skeet competitor of all time. In its second year, the Wayne Mayes event incorporates both individual and team awards, with shooters competing in all four guns.

The 550-target main event gets underway on Tuesday, October 3, with Doubles, followed each day by 12-Gauge, 20-Gauge, 28-Gauge, and .410 Bore competition. World Championships will be won for each gauge/bore, followed by a High Over All Championship on Saturday that combines the four-gun results.

Other side events and activities will fill the 10-day extravaganza for shooters. Members can participate in any or all of the World Championship events.

A who’s who of manufacturers and vendors serving the shotgunning sports will participate as well, many of whom have showrooms in Vendor’s Row at the National Shooting Complex. Shooters will be able to shop with well-known manufacturers and often can walk just steps away from the showroom to test a firearm before purchasing it. Gunmakers, ammunition companies, gunsmiths, accessories vendors, manufacturers of reloading equipment and components, and many other categories will be on-site with products for sale to shooters.

Also during the week, two individuals will be inducted into the Skeet Shooting Hall of Fame. Stewart McCoin of Seminole, Oklahoma, will be inducted for his accomplishments as a shooter, while Al Magyar of Rochester Hills, Michigan, will be inducted as the Ray Boller Award recipient for outstanding service to the NSSA and to the sport of skeet.
