Slow Facts

Louisiana- -(Ammoland.com)- Here is some news you won't find in the mainstream media. These are responsible gun owners defending themselves and the people they love.

Self-defense instructor Jeff Street joined the Self Defense Gun Stories Podcast to look at three new examples.  Were these gun owners lucky, or were they trained and prepared?   What can we learn from their experience? Listen and find out. (16 minute podcast)

All three victims survived lethal attacks because they had a gun.

First story- Are you armed when you’re at home with your family?

You’re sleeping in your bed.  It is close to midnight when your wife wakes you up.  She heard glass breaking. Your two young grandchildren are sleeping in the house, so you won’t take any chances.  You get up, grab your shotgun, move downstairs and see someone climbing out your kitchen window.  You yell for them to stop.

The burglar starts yelling, “Don’t shoot.  Don’t shoot.”

Your wife calls the police.  The criminal admitted he was under the influence of Methamphetamine. He used the propane tank from your gas grill to break the kitchen window.

Second Story-  Are you armed when you go shopping with a friend?

You and your friend were doing some shopping.  It is mid-afternoon.  You’re walking across the parking lot as you pass a stranger.  The stranger pulls a gun out of his pocket as you pass.  He yells for you to hand over your wallets and cellphones. You hand him your phones.  As you reach for your wallet, you draw your firearm. You shoot your attacker, and he runs away.  You and your friend were not injured.  Police find and arrest your attacker by following the trail of blood he left behind.

Third story- Are you armed at home late at night?

You’re at home when you hear someone breaking into the side door of your house.  It is almost midnight.  You are 60 years old.  You grab your gun and walk toward the sound.  You see a man standing inside your home with a crowbar in his hand.  You shoot him.  He runs away. You call police.

The robber drives himself to the hospital where he is taken into custody.  The police ask you if you have a permit to own the gun. You show them your Illinois Firearms Owners ID card along with your Illinois concealed carry permit.

    1. “Do I have a permit to own a gun” ??? Get out of Illinois before they send in the Jack boots to search your home for non-sanctioned contraband

    2. Too many stories of the perp running away after they have been shot….Seems to me we need More Gun Control on the 1st shot. Get out there & pratice more & be safe, AP out.

    3. here in North Dakota our new governor signed into law that took effect this August CONSTITUTIONAL CARRY.
one can still get a CCW like if their going out of state.
but I’ve ALWAYS SAID GOD GAVE ME THE RIGHT TO DEFEND MYSELF AND LOVED ONES, AND THE 2ND AMENDMENT BACKED UP THAT RIGHT.
it’s those COMMUNIST POLITICIANS AND BLACKED ROBED TYRANTS WHO ARE THE TRUE ENEMIES OF OUR GOD GIVEN RIGHTS.

    4. This is/was one very annoying podcast to listen to. Both participants either have a very monotone, or choppy way of speaking. I had to stop about 6 minutes into it…

    5. I’m probably going to catch hell for saying this and be accused of being a chauvinist pig and every other vile name you can think of. Here’s the deal: I read a lot of gun magazines, watch a number of gun related TV shows, and get info from other miscellaneous sources. I’m deluged with “pony-tails hanging out from adjustable hats” advertising the constant campaign to push women into the shooting sports……pink guns, pink range bags, pink eyes & ears and on and on. I don’t know where all these women are shooting, but I have only seen two women shooters in all my years at the range I utilize. Of course, I realize a new “target market” means increased profits. How about toning it down a-bit? Other guys I talk with feel the same. I’m definitely not a woman hater…..love ya! I don’t like car advertising either! Ladies….be kind to me if you reply. No offense to women…just the gun advertisers. I actually see some exploitation for profit. Thanks for reading.

      1. No catching hell from me, but I would like to suggest to you that it takes a concerted effort to change a hundred-old mindset of a faction of people — women — who have been taught they need to depend upon men for their protection from men. More than a hundred years ago women were considered second-class citizens, but they had the right to self-defense and they exercised the right. The ‘civilization’ infected them (and most of the men) along with the bogus idea that ‘being civilized’ meant ‘being defenseless.’ Yes, Charlie, I’m sure that women constitute a ‘new market’ for firearms and related products, but first, I don’t see that as a bad thing (why would you disparage improvements in the economy?) and second, I consider it to be a lot less important than developing a female mindset that she is a sovereign individual in her own right and capable of defending herself.

    6. Gun Rights Organizations need to sue the state of Illinois; the Second Amendment to the US Constitution does NOT require you to have ‘permission’ from the state government to own a firearm.

      1. @notalima I think that I would have to answer, “Yes, the Second Amendment includes me..”, regardless of whether I had a permit or not.
