SPRINGFIELD, Mo. –-(Ammoland.com)- Tom Larson, Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that a Carl Junction, Mo., woman was sentenced in federal court today for illegally possessing a firearm.
Lisa Lee, 43, of Carl Junction, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Stephen R. Bough to 10 years in federal prison without parole, the maximum statutory penalty for the offense.
On April 26, 2017, Lee pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm. Lee admitted she was in possession of a Taurus 9mm revolver when she was stopped by a Joplin, Mo., police officer on Feb. 26, 2016.
The police officer conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle Lee was driving. As he approached the vehicle, the officer saw Lee hide something near the door. Based on Lee’s furtive movements and nervous manner, investigators conducted a canine sweep of the exterior of the car. The dog alerted on the car, indicating the presence of narcotics.
Officers searched the vehicle and found $21,000, approximately 83.68 grams of pure methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and the Taurus revolver. The firearm was located in the trunk of the vehicle and wrapped in a multi-colored handkerchief.
Under federal law, it is illegal for anyone who has been convicted of a felony to be in possession of any firearm or ammunition. Lee has prior felony convictions for receiving stolen property, forgery and stealing. She currently has four felony cases pending against her in the Circuit Court for Jasper County, Mo.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney James J. Kelleher. It was investigated by the Joplin, Mo., Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Well here in sunny CA the Dems want to give felons the right to vote while in prison. Not sure an exfelon should be denied this right forever, but you got to at least do all the time and/or parole time first. Concerning the life time ban. I have an acquaintance who was in the US Army about 15 years ago. He missed a movement due to having to take care of his children because his wife was out partying and doing drugs. As a result, he has a felony on his record and cannot own a firearm. There are definitely cases where a felony should be allowed tohave those rights restored.
@ed A, There is a lot missing in the story of your army friend. There has to be a lot more to it that he is not telling you or he would have gotten an article 15, or his commander could have stopped the whole thing, the CG could have refused to accept the result. The UCMJ has lots more outs and is way more fair to the accused than the civilian system.
I;ve always had the feelings that when a man or woman SERVE THEIR TIME, THEY SHOULD GET ALL THEIR RIGHTS BACK INCLUDING OWNING A FIREARM AND VOTING.

My question is :- WHY is a convicted felon out of prison?
There is absolutely no need for a background check IF felons were kept inside, until such time as they are truly fit to be free in society, and pose no threat to others.
It really is that simple, there should be no such thing as a “repeat criminal offender”
Also a revolver is NOT an “illegal firearm”
You cannot sentence every felony convict to Life without parole. There isn’t enough prison beds in the country. Violent felons should never get their gun rights back. Non violent felons can petition to get their gun rights returned; a very difficult process. Incarcerated convicts should not be allowed to vote, period. They have demonstrated they can’t behave as adults. Which explains why the liberals want to let them vote.

The title is click bait. Less people would have read if it read as it should have. That broad deserves a long stint. Sad they use some tactics the liberals use just to have the story read tho. There’s nothing at all illegal about any revolver.

There was nothing illegal about the firearm.
In the end though the system did work.

@Dan, incarceration is expensive. Why punish the taxpayer by taking their money to feed and house felons? Can’t we just hang all felons. Misdemeanors get public shaming, public beating, serve time, and then become a felon.
Sadly, most times that is all they get HERE also… The libs and dems scream “they have rights”, as far as I am concerned, they gave them up when they commited the crime…
I wish we had punishment like that here in Australia.
Too often we hear of a criminal in possession of stolen firearms and drugs etc. and all they seem to get is a slap on the wrist from our week gutted legal system.
I worked for 20 + years as a firearms salesman in California. In that time I had about 100 refused sales because the person was not allowed to own a gun. In California, a person who tries to buy a gun and can not do so is subject to prison time. Technically just being in a store that sells firearms is a crime for a felon.
