Antigun Republicans EXPOSED in Florida Committee Hearing

by Marion Hammer
This is the first of a 3-Part Report of the Senate Judiciary Hearing, PART # 1 Three (3) progun bills die at the hands of anti-gun Republicans

Florida Senators Rene Garcia, R-Hialeah, and Anitere Flores, R-Miami, (SCOTT KEELER | Times Florida )

Florida –-(Ammoland.com)- PROGUN BILL #1: SB-274 Church Property, by Sen. Kelli Stargel (R-Lakeland) eliminates the unconstitutional restrictions that prevent churches, synagogues and other religious institutions from allowing private security or concealed firearms license holders to carry firearms on church property if church property is ever used for day care or any type of schooling. KILLED by a vote of 4-6

Republican Senators Rene Garcia (R-Hialeah) and Anitere Flores (R-Miami) both who falsely claim to be Second Amendment supporters joined Democrats on the Committee to kill the bill.

Sen. Garcia tried hide his treacherous behavior by claiming the bill violated a compromise from last year and attempted to blame the House for the bill dying last year.

First, there was NO COMPROMISE last year. Sen. Stargel, wanted to pass the bill last year so she agreed to accept bad amendments by Sen. Flores and Sen. Audrey Gibson (D). Those amendment effectively gutted the bill. Sen. Stargel also promised Sen. Gibson would withdraw her bill if anybody tried to remove those amendments in another committee. That obstructed the process and prevented other Senators from attempting to fix the bill.

The defeat of this bill falls totally on the shoulders of Sen. Rene Garcia and Sen. Anitere Flores. Churches, synagogues, and other religious institutions can blame them for blocking their private property rights and their right to provide safety and security for church members and guests on church property.

PROGUN BILL # 2: SB-134 Courthouse Carry by Sen. Greg Steube (R-Sarasota) is a bill to allow persons with licenses to carry concealed firearms to “check” their firearms at the security entrance of the courthouse and retrieve it upon leaving the courthouse. Further, it defines “courthouse” to prevent anti-gun judges from attempting to create extensive gun-free-zones around courthouses.

Sen. Steube had a strike-all amendment to create a whole new bill instead of simply courthouse carry. The amendment included courthouse carry; church property rights; the open carry fix; a resolution to Congress and President Trump to instruct BAFT to revisit and evaluate their “Bump-Stock” approval; and language to require FDLE to notify local law enforcement when someone with a criminal record or is otherwise prohibited from buying, owning or possessing a firearm, attempts to illegally buy a firearm. On a voice, the Chair declared that the amendment had passed.

Sen. Bobby Powell (D-W. Palm Beach) offered an amendment to prohibit concealed weapons license holders from carrying firearms into Tax Collectors’ offices. The amendment was requested by the very antigun Palm Beach Tax Collector Anne Gannon (D). Tax Collectors from other counties were there to oppose the amendment and Sen. Powell subsequently withdrew the amendment.

On a vote of 4-6, the amended bill then was then KILLED by Republicans Sens. Rene Garcia and Anitere Flores.

PROGUN BILL # 3: SB-148 Open Carry Abuse by Sen. Greg Steube (R-Sarasota) is a bill to stop abuse of law-abiding citizens who are licensed to carry concealed firearms for self-defense. A license holder whose firearm becomes temporarily and openly displayed to the ordinary sight of another person is not a criminal and this innocent act should not be a crime

In Florida, there are 1.8 million law-abiding license holders Every time they leave their homes, carrying a firearm, they run the risk of that firearm becoming exposed to the sight of another person and then being treated like a criminal. It’s time to stop that. It’s time to stop criminalizing the exercise of a constitutional right.

This bill was KILLED on 5-5 a tie vote created by Sen. Anitere Flores once again voting against Second Amendment rights. Democrat Senators Randolph Bracy, Audrey Gibson, Bobby Powell, and Perry Thurston voted against all progun bills.

Republican Senators Debbie Mayfield, Lizbeth Benacquisto, Rob Bradley, and Greg Steube voted in favor all progun bills.

@Vanns40 You have no right to call me a racist, you don’t even know me. I still say you are a loud mouthed POS that has no life than ridiculing someone else’s posts. You posted yesterday that you walk two hundred acres four times a day, more pure bull shit from you. I think I remember you commenting that you are a retired cop who lives in Virginia. I’v e known several cops that think they know everything there is to know about everything. You fit into that category and I’m sure your pay was commensurate with your knowledge, a… Read more »

@gunsfor kittens no I did not call everyone a racist, for your information. I am well aware that customs are different in canada than in The U.S. We are not subjects of the crown and do not intend to ever be. If you were privileged to U.S. newspapers you would know what I am talking about. I am very glad illegals are fleeing to the queen’s land. By the way, do they still provide centers for drug addicts to get their fix. Now I will advise you that I do not plan to refute any more of your socialist tripe… Read more »

@tomcat… I actually subscribe to the New York Times, so I do try to keep abreast of what’s happening down south. From what I can tell, it’s mostly white men like you that are the problem. I’m guessing you’re white. I could be wrong. And, I’m not sure if you know this, but Canada is a sovereign nation and not subject to the crown at all. There’s some token gestures to the crown. And the Haitians were actually not illegals. They were there completely legally. So by centres for drug addicts… I’m assuming you mean safe injection sites. Yes… those… Read more »

@gunsforkittens Yes I have been to Canada several times and I know one thing that isn’t true, Canadians are still subjects to the queen. Any country, in their right mind would have dumped that regime decades ago because all it does is suck up the subject’s tax money. As for you, you are either a troll, a plant or just an ignorant subject of the crown. You read the New York Times, that is the second highest level of fake news in this country. We are trying to preserve our country in it’s current and past form. That is all… Read more »

@Vanns40 I guess your comments were directed at me and I guess that you feel it is ok for illegals to come slithering over our southern border and suck up our tax dollars and send the money back home. Then let’s not forget killings, rape and thefts committed by them including increased police forces to try and control them. All that and the drug problem in this country. You sit on your lofty perch and your opinion is the only one that matters regardless if it differs with everyone else on this site. I’m sorry, I don’t march to the… Read more »

Florida pro gun might be in trouble. Notice the names of these RINO’s. Hispanic and there to take over so they can turn this country into something it has never been and never wants to be. They are bound to try and change our heritage to something that will turn out less than what we have now. The primaries is where you take your local government and federal governments back. It is necessary to vote and know who you are voting for.

Vanns40

You want to be a racist take it somewhere else.

@tomcat: Did you just call everyone else on this site a racist? I guess we are all racists at some level. I happen to live in Canada at the moment and have to say we have a lot of immigrants here and it’s great. We also have a lot of Haitian immigrants “slithering” across our borders ironically running away from your country. And besides… do you have any information that proves that immigrants are rapists and killers? Seems to me that most of that is perpetrated by white guys with guns. Also… why would you tell @Vans40 to keep his… Read more »

Wild Bill

Gentlemen, gentlemen, please… I can not believe that we are throwing the race card at each other. Do not our political enemies do enough of that? Are we of the same ilk as them? I think not.

Scott

You are aware Latino are white? Yes? Caucasian. You’ve already branded white men the problem so who’s racist here…?

Gunsforkitties

So YOU are the guy who knows what the whole country wants, huh? I’ve been looking for you. So… what about the heritage of the people that were here thousands of years ago? I guess by your logic those Hispanics are just trying to do to you what you did to them?

Scott

What do you imagine “Hispanic” has to do with “people who were here thousands of years ago”? Hispanic is Latino. They came here from Europe a few hundred years ago. They are Caucasian. White. The average Mexican has no more “Amerind” blood in them than the average US citizen who’ve been here a few generations.

Ignorant people should try not to demonstrate that ignorance in public.

Jim

Actually Mexicans and most Central and South Americans in general have a large percent of their ancestry from natives. They aren’t Elizabeth Warrens. It easily shows up in DNA tests. It tends to show Spanish paternal DNA and native maternal, although it varies a great deal by region and some are almost all native

Vanns40

I don’t own it and I don’t follow orders from you or any other racist. Why don’t you condemn all Blacks for the actions of the criminals in the inner cities while you’re at it? Or how about condemning all Italians because of the crimes committed by organized crime? Oh, and don’t stop there, why not blame all Germans for what the Nazis did. I repeat, you’re a racist. There are a lot of really good, hard working Hispanics who want nothing to do with the anti-gun antics of their Representatives but that happens to be just one part of… Read more »

The last names were the 2st thing I moticed. And, yes, I agree with you 100%

Vanns40

SB-148 was a horrible bill that had a three tiered penalty for temporary, accidental, exposure of a concealed firearm with the first offense being a $250 fine! And you, Marion Hammer and the NRA supported this! What is wrong with you? Why didn’t you have a Bill submitted that would have removed ALL penalties for temporary exposure of a concealed handgun? Why didn’t NRA push for an open carry Bill and bring Florida into the 21st Century like so many other gun friendly States? You should be ashamed of yourself.

Gunsforkittens

What do you mean by 21st century? Most people are leaning towards more gun control rather than less. Wouldn’t that mean they are bringing Florida into the 21st century?

Vanns40

That’s only true until they’re given the facts and not garbage info from the anti-gunners. Use the FBI crime stats and you’ll see that violent crime has been decreasing for the past 15 years while gun sales have soared and concealed permits now number between 16 & 17 million nationwide. More guns truly does mean less crime and gun free zones have turned out to be murder zones.

Gunsforkittens

It also means more mass shootings, and innocent people dying. How does that reconcile in your mind? I’d be interested to see what those FBI numbers are. I’m guessing you’re referring to stuff like armed robbery where people don’t get killed. I’ve found quite a few resources that say that the US has near the top of the heap of guns deaths per capita. Here are a couple of examples:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_firearm-related_death_rate
https://crimeresearch.org/2014/03/comparing-murder-rates-across-countries/

What makes you say these stats are garbage?

PavePusher

Baloney.

Jim

You must’ve fallen and split your head and taped it up with duct tape your canuck hick. It’s fallen for decades. The second link shows homicides decrease as legal gun ownership goes up lol Try reading it. and it makes a point of telling how the Swiss and Israeli ownership rates are higher than in that survey. Further read how 51% of murders take place in 2% of counties and 54% of counties have no murders. The first link includes suicides which the US is 48th in on a list of suicide rate. In other countries, with less firearms freedom,… Read more »

Wild Bill

@kitten, pure propaganda.

The other Jim

I have a lot of cousins that live in Florida. Lot of texting back and forth on the issues, etc. Republican’s Rene Garcia and Anitere Flores like their toast buttered on both sides of the bread. It is good to expose them and to keep exposing them so that they are remembered at the voting box.

WALT

Rene Garcia and Anitere Flores need to change from republican to democrat we don’t need any more RINOS!!

Dumbfounded

Can’t not really complain, as my district state reps are Dems, yet vote pro-gun or against anti-gun legislation all the time. Sometimes voting across party lines is not such a bad thing. It show flexibility , something the far left and right need to learn.

Paul Powell

That is all well and good but when you have reps that are so anti gun then thereis is a big time problem.

Charlie

I’m like you…..dumbfounded that you actually think Demos are for the 2A. When a Demo crosses party lines on an issue, there’s always a political motive for it, and it’s not flexibility.
