MCRGO E’News: National Reciprocity & December CPL Report

USA -(Ammoland.com)- MCRGO’s Board of Directors has approved the following position regarding the National Reciprocity legislation in Congress:

The Michigan Coalition for Responsible Gun Owners (MCRGO) supports the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017 in the United States Congress and we call on Michigan Senators Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters to vote in favor of its passage in the United States Senate.

This legislation is the the single most effective development to ensure personal and family protection of self-defense rights in modern American history. The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act is the culmination of a 30-year movement recognizing the right of all law-abiding Americans to defend themselves, and their loved ones, including when they cross state lines.

The bill, H.R. 38, ensures that those Americans who can legally carry a concealed firearm in Michigan will legally be able to do so in every other state. It eliminates the confusing patchwork of state laws that have ensnared otherwise law-abiding gun owners, and have forced law enforcement to waste their precious time and resources enforcing laws that don’t do anything to reduce violent crime.

The bill also makes improvements to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, NICS. All Americans, including law-abiding gun owners, agree that violent criminals should not have legal access to firearms.

However, the system is only as good as its records, and recent events have shown that sometimes the correct information is not entered into the system.

This bill incentivizes states and government agencies to update the NICS with legitimate records of prohibited persons. Additionally, the bill creates an expedited process for removing records that are erroneously put in the system.

Currently, when a person discovers they have been wrongly added to the NICS, it can take two years to get their name removed. This bill requires a response to an appeal within 60 days.

MCRGO thanks NRA-ILA for its three decades of leadership toward achieving full national reciprocity.

December 2017 CPL Report

The most recent (December 2017) County by County CPL report is now available for download from the Michigan State Police website. According to the MSP report, as of December 1, 2017 there were 619,433 “approved” concealed pistol license holders in Michigan. Note that “approved” reflects the total number of people with current active CPLs in our state.

This is an all-time high, surpassing the previous high in July 2017 and completely reversing a late summer dip.

Gee, Doug Jones a second amendment guy BUT stressed SOME CONTROLS necessary . WOW I got a letter from Chuckie S. (about 2 years ago) SAYING Almost the same thing Quote Iam all for the second amendment BUT with restrictions

The other Jim

@js, Roy Moore lost the Senate race. Doug Jones is another liar leftist…see from various news articles: Doug Jones describes himself as “a Second Amendment guy,” but stressed that some gun control is necessary. He said, “We’ve got limitations on all constitutional amendments in one form or another.” This position is contrary to the clear language of the amendment, which states that the right to keep and bear arms “shall not be infringed.” As long as we get it to a vote, then the list will be made as to who we must remove in November 2018 at the ballot… Read more »

Wild Bill

@The other Jim, Yep, this is a huge win for Mitch McConnel and all the other corrupt elitists in the federal government. Believing that Rights are limited means that one does not believe in Rights. Limitations on Rights means that the limits grow as government incrementally desires, until the Right is just a privilege, and then disappears. When the people have Rights, they have a rock solid shield. When the people have Rights that are limited, then the people have one loss after another and nothing to really depend on. Jones will do what the elitist/progressives tell him to do.… Read more »

“This bill requires a response to an appeal within 60 days…” Read the Bill again. The wording is “From the time the Director of the FBI is notified….”. What is the process for notifying the the “Director of the FBI”? There is none. What is the time limit given for notification of the Director? There is none. So, you’re on the prohibited list, somehow you appeal to the FBI and a year later you’ve heard nothing. You check and are told “oh, the office of the Director has not received your appeal, the Bureau is very backed up in paperwork.… Read more »

The Senate will not pass National Reciprocity. That place is too partisan and the liberal democrats seem to control it better than the Republicans. Plus McCain and Flake will never support anything Trump may support..
