“Never Again” Movement Means Nothing Until We Really Protect Our Children

USA –  -(Ammoland.com)- To the editor:

We learned another sobering lesson from the shooting massacre of 17 at the Broward County Florida Parkland school.

“Parkland” is now INFAMOUS with Sandy Hook, Columbine and Orlando.

I personally experienced the aftermath of the Sandy Hook massacre. How striking are the similarities to Parkland.

The takeaway from both mass murders. Who was protecting the children once they are out of the safety of our homes?

NOT: The shooter’s foster family who took him in. Hard to move around in a home with a broom let alone an large Semi-Automatic Rifle. Nothing to see here. Move on. PASS GO.

NOT: The Facebook posts or Emails. The shooter was bragging he was, “In training to shoot up the school.” Was he reaching out for help? No one heard his “silent scream?” No need for mental hospitals. Nothing to see here. Move on. PASS GO.

NOT: An active-shooter drill. We have lots of fire drills. “Just another fire drill.” PASS GO.

NOT: THE BROWARD SCHOOL BOARD. THEY WOULD NOT BUDGET FOR MORE SECURITY. THEY DID NOT ALLOW ARTESTS ON CAMPUS.

NOT: Any action taken to “see something, say something” concerning the behavior of an expelled, antisocial, loner former student with a backpack. “Nothing to see here. Move on.” PASS GO.

NOT: The gun laws. The 19 yr old shooter could purchase a semi-automatic rifle but can’t buy a beer. “Nothing to see here. Move on.” PASS GO.

NOT: The gun retailer. Nothing in the FBI/ATF background check report that prevented the sale of the gun. No report of mental illness or aberrant mental behavior that would preclude the sale of the rifle. There aughta be a law? Nothing to see here. Move on. PASS GO.

NOT: The shooter, he had easy access to a “no guns allowed” school zone. No one will shoot back. HE KILLED SMALL ANIMALS. COULD HUMANS BE NEXT? PASS GO.

NOT: The FBI, they previously interviewed the shooter 5 times. No guns confiscated, which is a Federal gun law, not enforced. Now we need new gun laws? “Nothing to see here. Move on.” PASS GO.

NOT: The Broward County police. They had over 30 previous contacts with the shooter. No guns confiscated, which is a Florida gun law, not enforced. We need more gun laws? “Nothing to see here. Move on.” PASS GO.

NOT: The armed Broward Sheriff’s Deputy Resource Officer who stayed at a safe distance outside the school while the innocents were slaughtered. “He never went in.” He was suspended and allowed to put in his retirement papers. Needed to protect his pension? PASS GO.

NOT: The local police. THREE MORE BROWARD DEPUTIES ARRIVED. THEY DID NOT ENGAGE THE SHOOTER. THEY TOLD THE CORAL SPRINGS TO GO IN. They took several minutes to arrive. The shooting was over in 7 minutes. The shooter was long gone, enjoying a Subway soft drink going his merry way. PASS GO.

As predicted, politicians came out of the woodwork, screaming, demanding, pointing fingers to fix blame. Politicizing, weaponizing and not letting a good crisis go to waste. Hijacking the candlelight prayer vigil.

Lots of apologies for incompetence and outright negligence. “Dropping the ball.” “Missing the signs.”

They tell the media they have the answers. Ban guns now! It’s the NRA’s fault. President Trump “used notes” at the White House Listening Session;

“we’re gunna do something about this horrible situation.” We have all heard this tired song before.

They all promise, “Never again,” until again happens….again.

Until they get re-elected…..again.

We had a never again movement in Australia but it was aimed at the gun control laws and the confiscation of our firearms. These people stole our hashtag and we want it back!

@Mr. Velsmid You wrote a good article and hit several nails right on the head. It is a real shame this happened and a bigger shame the FBI and your local sheriff’s office dropped the ball and allowed eighteen people to get killed. The deaths rest on their shoulders and I hope they never quit thinking about their actions. Blame the gun, that will take the heat off the bad cops.

OK, it will mean nothing until we actually protect our kids. How about taking 60% of our tax money away from protecting The Government from US, and use it on our kids? At least they have a plan, it may not work, but maybe the rest of US could try to provide some ideas that would help it work instead of simply saying, it won’t work………. Talk has Always been Cheap, got an ideas, even a bad idea is better then doing what we are doing, which per one of those Kids in Fl Ain’t Working.

“Never Again”, should we leave armed, paid, political agenda motivated, security personnel, sit outside a school while terror reigns inside! Let the teachers who have the desire, training, and the unique ability of “Situational Awareness”; carry weapons in schools.

May 1974 Israel had a school massacre that killed over 100 children. They said; Never again! And for more than four decades they have had no more. Gun laws? They had already very strict laws regarding guns so no that was not the answer. The answer was to arm school personell that was already trained. For those not trained – train them. Everything based upon voluntary duty to protect the children. American schools have plenty of personell that are more than willing to protect our children if necessary with guns. But we are dealing with the same low IQ people… Read more »

Hello Mr. Velsmid, Mike S. from just up I95 a ways in St. Johns County. Here’s three things to keep in mind when it comes to anything involving the armed revenue collection agencies. 1. Qualified Immunity: They get to beat, torture, imprison, harass, and/or murder anyone and there’s nothing you can do about it. 2. Civil Asset Forfeiture: They get to take anything of yours that they want to at any time, for any or no reason and there’s nothing you can do about it. 3. No Duty To Protect: Whenever you’re getting beaten, tortured, imprisoned, harassed, murdered, or stolen… Read more »
