Report Of Two Handguns Left In U-Texas Bathrooms

AUSTIN, TEXAS – -(Ammoland.com)- On Wednesday, February 21, 2018, it was reported that within a 24-hour span, two unattended handguns were found inside two separate restrooms at UT-Austin.

The handguns have since been claimed by their owners, who are both license-to-carry (LTC) holders. Law enforcement and university officials are still determining if any legal or disciplinary action will be taken against the two individuals.

Students for Concealed Carry Southwest Regional Director Quinn Cox issued the following statement:

“As explained by UTPD, incidents like this are extremely rare, and for these two incidents to occur in the same week, at the same university is quite an anomaly. LTC holders have a responsibility not to put themselves or others in danger. The two events should serve as a reminder that LTC holders must be mindful of the location and condition of their firearms at all times.”

“This type of incident most commonly occurs when a license holder is new to concealed carry or frequently changes his or her manner of carry in order to accommodate different styles of clothing. We at Students For Concealed Carry recommend that all LTC holders adopt a consistent restroom routine that allows them to continuously maintain control of their firearms.”

I presume that determining whose guns were involved would be easy to determine.

I wear an IWB (in waistband) holster. I either leave it on, and just pull my underwear up and slightly over it (so no one looking under a stall will see it, or unclip the whole holster with gun and drop it in my underwear between my legs. Can’t be seen, and is easy to get to and certainly won’t forget it.

As a Licensed Texas CCW holder, I can understand and appreciate how it can happen, however having said that I believe that they should be required to take another CCW gun safety coarse and loose their permit until they complete such. It comes down to carelessness on their part and that could lead to those of us with CCW permits to be cast in a bad light, which we don’t need at anytime.

No crime was committed so let them go. If LEO’s can make mistakes with all of their so called training and not be prosecuted then so can a legal qualified civilian. MAke them take another training course. These are good guys, just a little sloppy.

Probably belong to law enforcement. They take a crap and there goes their brains.

I worked with a clown that did this once. He also shot himself in the leg and shot the roof of a prowler. He made it all the way to chief, it was safer than leaving him on the street.

Dang! I can never find the stall with the free gun.

I know, right? Maybe I should revisit my policy on public dueces? Or at least check the stalls for presents NOT in the bowl! 😀
