West Bend, WI-(Ammoland.com)- The United States Concealed Carry Association (USCCA), a Wisconsin-based organization providing education, training and self-defense insurance to responsible American gun owners, was featured on CBS News’ 60 Minutes this past Sunday on a segment about the effort in Congress to pass reciprocity for concealed carry licenses.

The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act has already sailed through the House of Representatives and has the full support of President Trump. It now awaits action in the U.S. Senate where it has roughly 40 co-sponsors.

United States Concealed Carry Association President Tim Schmidt discussed USCCA’s support for the legislation and the importance of protecting law-abiding citizens with 60 Minutes host Steve Kroft in a segment which can be found here. “The aim of this bill is to simply allow responsibly armed Americans to be able to travel and continue to defend their families,” Schmidt said.

BACKGROUND:

The United States Concealed Carry Association has been urging lawmakers in Congress to follow through on their promise to pass national concealed carry reciprocity, which would ensure that concealed carry permits issued in one state would be considered valid in the other 49 states. U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) introduced the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act through S.446 last year and Congressman Richard Hudson (R-NC) did the same through the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017 in H.R.38. Both bills would ensure that concealed carry permits issued in one state would be respected in them all.

The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act is a good deal if all states will abide by it and if it doesn’t include a national register.

Vanns40

They must and it doesn’t.

I am a longtime CCW holder and only have it to be able to transport my hand guns to and from home when I go to the range to shoot. I probably will not change my habits if the Reciprocity Act becomes law but I do support it. Perhaps this will move states to change their requirements for CCW. I do feel background requirements are too lax…

Actually it was not as bad as I had thought it might be. Yes, it had a position to sell, as expected, but it also did present some ideas for thought from the human rights, self defense and 2A positions. It was certainly not a Katie Couric type hit piece. While it could have been a bit more balanced, let’s give it due credit for what might be a good start toward open, fully reasoned discussions.

I was surprised to see the two New York City officials talking about how armed permit holders would make their city unsafe. I was in their city in 2010 and saw a bumper sticker on a police car offering $5000 (I believe) to anyone who turned someone else in for SHOOTING AT A POLICE CAR. If the police can’t drive around town without getting shot at what chance does an unarmed citizen have?

Just think of the howls of protest that would emanate from all directions if suddenly other parts of the Bill of Rights had the same restrictions the Second Amendment has. You would need a permit to write a letter to the editor to your local news paper, you might need to take government approved classes before attending an approved religious facility. and pay for a renewable permit to do it. Your right to remain silent if accused of a crime might apply only if you are accused of a FEDERAL crime because States can make their own rules. The Second… Read more »

We knew from the start the 60 min. piece would be hostile to the bill and slant their program to support that. For a liberal news program it was slanted but not by as much as I thought it would be, maybe 7–6 or 8 –7 rather than 10–0. The lawyer stating that the 2nd doesn’t allow carry and the S.C. didn’t say that is wrong. The S.C. up held the right to be armed and protect yourself (and others). Being able to carry anywhere allows the individual to be able to defend them selves where ever they are. Yep… Read more »

Ironically, everyone forgets that our 2nd amendment is already a guarantee of the right to bear our weapons, not intended to request extra permission from the overlords.

Wild Bill

@Native, We have not forgotten. Welcome, we look forward to seeing more from you.: )

Douglas Tennant

This is just plain NUTS! The Second Amendment DOES NOT support this!
Law enforcement officers are the only people who should carry weapons wherever they go.

Michael L Cafarelli

yes, they should be able to go everywere and carry a gun. but what makes him differant from me when he is off duty? if the world is so safe why do they carry off duty? because the world is not a safe space, it is filled with crazy people with crazy ideas, and i am sorry but untill i can fit an off duty police officer in my pocket, i will continue to carry. i find it funny that if you knew what to look for. at least 25% of the people around you in public are carrying firearms… Read more »

BILL BRONAUGH

To Ms. Tennant, why?

Heed the Call-up

Douglas, how does the statement about the RKBA “shall no be infringed” not apply to CC? I don’t see any language in the 2A that excludes CC. You might want to tone-down the rhetoric or risk appearing more foolish.

If you don’t know what you are talking about, your best bet is to just shut up.

Vanns40

It’s a troll alert, just let them rant for a moment. No explanation will ever satisfy them, you’re wasting your breath.

Jim

ok Mr Stalin, thanks for your input

Wild Bill

@D. Tennant, Haaaaa, haaa, haa. I believe a new legion of liberal/progressive/socialist Civil Rights hating poltroons have been sent to our site. We are on someone’s radar.

jim cullifer

will everyone have to take the CC class in order to travel with your wepon ?

Eliot Michelson

It would be great to see this law passed. Your drivers license is accepted nation wide so your CCW should also be

james Green

it would be soo nice if it passed. We have to jump through hoops to get a legal permit to start..Then if you go on vacation you have to check every state you travel through or to..
