Teachers Schools Guns
Armed School Staff are the LAST Responders

U.S.A. –-( Murderers attacked our schools. That has been in the news and on our minds. Who are the first responders and who are the last responders?

We’d like to think that the police will arrive to save us. Unfortunately, that isn’t how crime and public violence works. The criminal is almost always gone when the police arrive minutes after we call. In cases of public violence, the murderer is stopped most of the time by people who are on scene when the attack starts. Or the murderer commits suicide before the police arrive to physically stop him.

So who is the first responder that will stop the attack?

What about parents? What about enforcement..and judges? They are usually involved well before the problem arrives at the classroom door. Parents raise children who can control their own behavior. Sometimes that fails. Then, concerned parents hope that therapy will help their child. We contact social workers when the family breaks down. Criminals and mass murders usually have a violent history. The police are usually the next resort when individuals won’t govern their own behavior. We want the courts to protect us from criminals and the mentally ill who are a danger to others. That only works some of the time.

Sometimes we have advance notice that a person can turn violent. In the case of the murderer in Parkland, Florida, even the Federal Bureau of Investigation was involved..and failed. We saw deputies arrive at the Parkland high school and wait for the murderer to get tired of killing.

Do guns belong in our schools? Does a first aid kit? Does a fire extinguisher?

The people who want every teacher disarmed say the problem of violence and injury shouldn’t exist at school. Evidence shows us they are wrong. Violence comes to school despite the many layers of things we’ve done to prevent it. That leaves school staff as the last responders, not the first. Everyone else had a chance to keep violence out of our schools and to keep our children safe. That works most of the time. Sometimes it doesn’t. Do we need armed staff in our schools? Not usually, but we’re not talking about a usual event.

What should we do when a murderer comes to a school?

I think we should do the same thing at school as we do when a murderer comes to our home. We do everything we can to keep the murderer outside. We defend our family any way we can if the murderer breaks in.

The first thing we do when violence comes is to call a good guy with a gun. How many students should we sacrifice while we wait for help to arrive from outside? I say none. Not one more student should die because we were waiting for emergency responders. If volunteer teachers want to take training and go armed to defend students then I say thank you. Armed staff can stop the attacks and treat the injured until the police and EMTs arrive.

That is how many of us protect our families at home. Almost 20 million of us have the legal permit to carry concealed in public. Suddenly it is a novel idea to have armed defenders at our school who are not in uniform. We’ve been protecting our children outside of schools for years.

In fact, we’ve been protecting children for years inside schools as well (and here.)

    1. When teachers are armed, those close to the situation will be the first responders, and much more effective than hoping that someone on the other side of campus will put down the ol’ cup of coffee, come out of the office, and do something meaningful. The title of this article should be more specific about what kind of armed school staff are being talked about as “last responders”.

      1. Better measures would be improving security at the schools (or) the architecture. The discomfort many students feel if a teacher were to carry a firearm is another consideration. If the presence of a firearm distracts students from following a lesson plan or understanding subject matter, the desired impact of the instruction is compromised.

        1. Not a consideration since “the presence of a firearm” does not exist. It’s concealed. This has NEVER been a problem in any of the States where teachers are now armed.

    2. The Democrat Party likes DEAD KIDS, Unborn or Born as long as they Media to talks about the Born ones getting killed(unless they are Black). But they don’t want the world to know is they are being killed by Democrats.

    3. And now come the Liberals proposing that any teacher who wants to be armed (I forgot which State this was) must go through 140 hours of training PLUS five hours of diversity training! What the hell does diversity training have to do with an active shooter scenario and please explain why anyone in their right mind thinks it would take 140 hours to train someone? Oh, sorry, I forgot, this came from a Liberal brain not a rational brain.

If we wanted to look at the other side of that particular coin we could take a peek at Utah where teachers and students alike, who have carry permits, can carry in ALL schools and classrooms. They only take a 4 hour course – – yes, FOUR hours not ONE HUNDRED FORTY. Oh, and they’ve never had a school shooting…….just sayin.

      1. Vanns40, that would be Florida under their new law and it is 12 hours of diversity training not five hours. The reason for the training is because when a student, who has skin of a darker hue, acts up violently the Libs are afraid that they may be thought of as a violent, life threatening person rather than someone who is just acting as their “culture” has taught them to act through no fault of their own. And we can’t really shoot people who are just following their cultural norms, can we? It’s all a bunch of BS smoke screen to hide their real intentions from the willingly ignorant and stupid public. Total confiscation is, has been, and will always be the intended results of these people. Never forget it.

        1. Hah, my bad on the hours! As far as never forgetting, I’ve been preaching that since the put GCA ‘68 into law. I well remember buying guns with no paperwork at all.

    4. Thise who don’t want to allow teachers to be armed, even if they have passed the same training as police, have no problem with armed police being at school.

To these anti-freedom morons, you have to be wearing the right clothes to be able to use a gun properly.

    5. One must be extremely suspicious of those who advocate against arming (willing) teachers.

I suspect their only motivation is that they WANT more school massacres to further promote the disarming of America so the globalists won’t have to work so hard to enslave us.

        1. Well now Jimmy, did you achieve your non responsive troll degree in the mail or did you actually attend the Liberal troll university for it?

          1. @Vanns, Non responsive is right. What do you suppose he means by “rooted”. I wonder if he knows that everyone from the POTUS to the local jewelry store uses armed guards, and that works. The Israelis used armed teachers, and that works. Hollywood movie actors use armed guards, and that works. In fact, everyone in the world that wants to protect something valuable uses armed guards, and that works. Unless of course, this amateur propagandist is questioning the abilities of teachers in general.

            1. @WB…one wonders if hollywierd is suppose to be the model for our kids , and they want to stand on stage and preach to everyone ? Why is it they won’t disclose to the gullible dumdmasses , their armed guards and walled estates ?
