U.S.A.-(Ammoland.com)- The sport of 3-gun has rocket to the top of the shooting world, with competitions raking in big sponsors and huge purses. As the competition has become more intense, shooters have challenged manufacturers to product more innovative equipment in the hopes they could gain a competitive edge.

In this game, speed kills – the competition. So being able to move fast is critical to winning. As a result, competitors look for any way to reduce weight in their equipment, especially in the guns. And there are no lighter AR rifles than those offered by 2A Armament.

The company’s flagship rifle, the Balios Lite BLR-16, weighs a mere 5 pounds, which is a full 1.5 pounds lighter than a standard AR rifle. To achieve this reduced weight, the Balios Lite BLR-16 is outfitted with a 16-inch pencil-profile barrel and mid-length gas system. It also features a titanium T3 compensator, a titanium gas block and titanium takedown pins. To further shave ounces, 2A Armament has also eliminated the forward assist.

The Balios Lite BLR-16 not only excels in weight reduction, but also in usability.

The Balios Lite BLR-16 not only excels in weight reduction, but also in usability. The rifle sports a flared mag-well for faster reloading, MAGPUL MIAD grip and Mission First minimalist stock for control. As a result, the rifle is fast and agile when shouldered, allowing for faster target acquisition. Accuracy is further aided with an ALG-ACT trigger group and 1:8-inch twist rifling for that accommodates a variety of loads.

Of course, some shooters truly desire a forward assist on their rifles, which is why 2A Armament introduced the Aethon. Also called the ALR-16, this lightweight rifle is machined from 7075-T6 billet aluminum and weighs in at just5 pounds, 4 ounces. It comes a flared magazine well, titanium T3 compensator and BCM-mod4 charging handle. The Aethon features a 15-inch and extruded Aethon-style rail, which has M-LOK quick-detach mounts for easily attaching the optics and accessories that are needed for 3-gun competitions.

Competitors in the Heavy Metal divisions also have a lightweight option in the 2A Armament Xanthos-lite. At just 6.75 lbs., the Xanthos-lite features a 7075 T6 aluminum upper and lower receivers, flared mag well, M4-style feed ramps and titanium gas block. The rifle features an 8-position rear stock, a BCM-Gunfighter 762 mod3 charging handle, a two-stage trigger set at 2 pounds and a titanium X4 muzzle brake.

I am sure that it is a fine rifle, and it is a nice dramatic advertising picture. Please note that the model in the nice dramatic advertising picture is silhouetting himself rather nicely. This would be a good teaching aid illustrating what not to do.
